  • Publication number: 20140339191
Abstract: A specimen collection container having an improved sealing mechanism that provides enhanced sealing properties during transport, storage, and handling. The specimen collection container comprises a cup, cap and improved sealing mechanism. The sealing mechanism forms multiple seals between the cup and cap. In a preferred embodiment, the sealing mechanism forms primary, secondary and tertiary seals between the cap the cup. The primary and secondary seals are preferably formed between the cap and the interior surface of the cup. The tertiary seal is preferably formed between the cap and the distal edge of the cup. The first, second and third seals are sequentially formed as the cap is rotated from a first radial position at which the threads first engage each other to a second radial location at which the cap is fully closed. Each of the three seals on its own is capable of sealing the container and preventing a fluid specimen from leaking from the cup if the seal is maintained.

  • Patent number: 8695833
Abstract: The closeable opening device according to the invention comprises a base (2) in which a cutting element (3) is supported. Driving dogs (42) in the closing screw cap (4) engage with driving dogs (32) in the cutting element (3), so that the cutting element (3) is displaced in the base (2) to the end position upon initial opening. Abstract: A child-resistant package includes a container having an open mouth, a conical external surface around the open mouth that widens away from the mouth and a wall extending from the conical external surface. A closure has a base wall, and a peripheral skirt having a first portion adjacent to the base wall and a second portion removably connected to the first portion. An annular first wall extends from the base wall at a position radially inward from the skirt for spring/sealing engagement with the conical external surface of the container. A second wall extends from the base wall at a position radially inward from the first wall and, preferably, at an outward conical angle to the base wall. The second portion of the skirt and the wall on the container have interlocking elements that resist removal of the closure from the container in a child-resistant mode of operation absent a force against the first wall to disengage the interlocking elements.

  • Patent number: 7882977
Abstract: A tamper evident fitment assembly for use with a container for flowable material, the closure comprising a cap and a spout secured to the container, the cap having a frangible tamper evident band, the cap having an annular recess for frictionally engaging a top portion of the spout, the cap and spout having cooperating detent and locking elements so that the assembly in a first position where the cap is removably sealed to the spout and the tamper evident band is not broken when the cap is removed for filling may move to a second position when the cap is removably sealed to the spout and the tamper evident band is broken upon removal of the cap. An important feature of the present invention is that the cap frictionally engages a top portion of the spout. No screw threads or similar securing means are required to retain the cap on the spout.

Abstract: A bottle cap is provided that allows for venting of gases generated in a bottle. A single or multiple ridges are formed on the inner surface of the cap top such that the ridges sit on the bottle mouth rim when the cap is threaded onto the bottle. A single or multiple slots may be formed across each of the ridges. Alternatively, a single or multiple grooves may be formed on the inner surface of the cap top. The ridge(s) or groove(s) may also be formed on a disc fitted over the inner surface of the cap top. When the cap is threaded on to the bottle, gases generated in the bottle can escape through the slot(s) formed across the ridge(s) or through the groove (s) formed on the inner surface of the cap top. A liner having an opening formed through its thickness may be placed in the cap.
