  • Patent number: 4971213
Abstract: Disclosed is a plastic cap comprising a top plate and a skirt hanging down from the peripheral edge of the top plate, which are integrally formed of a plastic material, and a mechanism for clamping the cap to a vessel, which is arranged on the inner circumferential face of the skirt, wherein a receiving seat to be substantially exactly engaged with the top edge or peripheral edge of the vessel mouth and at least one sealing projection protruding from the receiving seat through a groove by a very small distance from the face of the receiving seat are arranged in an inner corner portion between the top plate and the skirt or in the vicinity thereof, and sealing is effected by the pressure generated by compression deformation of the sealing projection. In this plastic cap, plastic deformation of the sealed portion is prevented and a high durable sealing pressure is obtained. Accordingly, this plastic cap has an excellent pressure-resistant sealing property and an excellent venting property in combination.

Abstract: A screw top has a long, thin annular sealing washer which extends from the ring part of the top to the container opening over its outer edge. During the final phase of screwing down, it is pressed on to the surface around the container opening by a pressure rib attached to the cap part. As the base or root of the washer moves further downwardly, while the contact line between the pressure rib and the packing washer remains fixed, the intermediate portion is expanded. It is therefore pressed against the opening and particularly against the outer edge of the container.

  • Patent number: 4526284
Abstract: A closure for a container comprises a top 11 with a depending skirt 12 having an internal screw thread. Where the skirt joins the top, the internal surface 15 of the skirt is conically flared in a direction away from the top, and a flexible resilient fin 18 extends from the underside of the top substantially parallel to the flared surface 15. The free end portion of the fin is thickened as by the provision of a broad rib 23 on the radially inner surface of the fin. When the closure is secured on to a container, the fin 18 becomes defirmed outward and is sufficiently long to extend round the outer corner portion of the top of the container and is pressed into tight sealing engagement with said outer corner portion by the flared surface. The increased thickness of the free end portion of the fin causes it to resist expansion and to hug more closely the corner portion of the top of the container.

  • Patent number: 4489844
Abstract: A reusable cap for closing carbonated beverage containers or the like, consists of an internally threaded shell having a fitment therein which sealingly engages the neck of the beverage container at the free edge thereof. The shell and the fitment are constructed of different plastic materials and are injection molded in different portions of the same molding cavity. First, the fitment is formed and then, without moving the fitment from the position in which it was formed, the shell is formed, to produce a unitary structure in which substantial portions of the fitment are imbedded in the shell.

  • Patent number: 4489845
Abstract: A screw-cap (1) for closing a container mouth has a sealing lip (5), which is affixed to the cap top (4). The inner side-wall (7) of the sealing lip (5) has a diameter (A) which is greater than the outer diameter (B) of the container outer wall (8). A clamping device, which can be designed as an inner seal (13), creates a contraction of the cap top when the screw-cap is screwed on to the container, by which means the sealing lip (5) is pressed against the container mouth (8). In this manner the sealing lip (5) is only pressed radially against the container mouth during the course of the screwing-on process. In this way over-stretching and damage to the material of the sealing lip can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 4442947
Abstract: This relates to a plastic material closure which is provided with deformable sealing flaps and cooperating abutments wherein when the closure is drawn down onto a container, the flaps will deform in accordance with the cross section of the sealing surface area of the container including down inside of the mouth of the container and down alongside the exterior surface of the neck finish to provide effective sealing contact with the container sealing area. Separate seals between the flaps and the container neck finish permit the same closure to be used to form gas-tight seals both with respect to high internal pressures and vacuum packs. The seals are liquid-tight and the closure may be used for reclosing the container against liquid loss.

Abstract: A closure and sealing device for closing and sealing an open-mouthed vessel having a vessel neck and further having an orifice defined by a vessel neck lip protruding axially and radially from said orifice. A bottle cap in accordance with the preferred embodiment is designed to prevent the transfer of liquid or gas between the interior of the bottle and the atmosphere and includes two elongated, tapered sealing members disposed around the interior perimeter of the cap with the sealing members angularly disposed such that they diverge from each other. The tapered ends of the elongated sealing members are adapted to make firm contact against the top and side of the lip. Seal augmenting means consisting of a relatively massive protruding region disposed around the interior perimeter of the cap below the sealing members are adapted to urge the sealing members into sealing contact with the lip and acts as a third sealing member.

The gasket is geometrically shaped in the form of the frustrum of a right circular cone. In the present invention, turning of the lid a sufficient amount engages a lid-to-jar stop which mechanically stops further rotation at the point where the gasket has been grossly deformed a predetermined amount sufficient to obtain a high degree of seal. The gasket operates by having its lower edge wipe along and radially expand along the top surface of the container, the lower edge being placed under tension as the radial expansion occurs.
