    Abstract: Processing an evacuated blood sample collection tube or other vessel by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition to apply a tie coating or layer (289), a barrier coating or layer (288), and optionally one or more additional coatings or layers. The tie coating or layer of SiOxCy is applied under partial vacuum and, while maintaining the partial vacuum unbroken in the lumen, the barrier coating or layer is applied. Then optionally, while maintaining the partial vacuum unbroken in the lumen, a pH protective coating or layer of SiOxCy can be applied. As a result of this processing, a coated vessel is produced having a lower gas permeation rate constant into the lumen than a corresponding vessel made by the same process except breaking the partial vacuum in the lumen between applying the tie coating or layer and applying the barrier coating or layer. Retention features are also described for keeping the vessels stoppered during exposure to reduced ambient pressure.

    Abstract: A reusable bottle cap having identification means coupled to a novel bottle cap cover is disclosed and described herein. To prevent TCA contamination, the stopper may include a stopper cap made of a TCA scavenger material, providing a barrier between the stopper and the contents of the bottle. A filter may be added to remove particulates and impurities from the contents when poured from the unstoppered bottle. Various types and shapes of filters may be used, and the filter may include a spring or other movement assistance or a ventilation mechanism. In some embodiments, the sleeve may be removably attached to the bottle, such as by interfacing threading, or to the filter, such as by frangible connectors.

The method of serving wine includes releasing vacuum from the bottle by unseating the removable cap, removing the cap and pouring wine through the stopper. Pumps for the stopper are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A stopping device for a container, comprising a circular stopper for closing the neck of the container, and a cap comprising a synthetic material that covers the neck and the stopper positioned in the neck, the cap comprising a cover and a ring for surrounding the stopper and the neck, the ring having a minimum inner diameter larger than the maximum diameter of the stopper, the ring and the cover being produced as a single component and connected by breakable bridges distributed over a circumference of the ring with an inner diameter that is larger than or equal to the maximum diameter of the stopper, and first locking tabs formed on the inside of the ring facing windows that are radially open towards the outside, and second locking tabs facing a closed part, each second tab formed between two first tabs, facing a strip of material separating windows.

    Abstract: A stopper includes a hollow casing with a resilient, ribbed sleeve that forms a valve seat. An interior plunger has a tip configured to mesh with the valve seat when in its down position and to open the valve when in its up position. An upper flange in the plunger provides an additional seal and is visible through a transparent wall in the casing. A vacuum in the bottle draws the plunger downward increasing the pressure with which the plunger presses against the seat, thus securing a long-lasting seal that maintains the vacuum in the bottle. When the vacuum is released, the resilience of the seat structure pushes the plunger upward, rendering it visible as an indicator of vacuum through the transparent wall. An opening in the casing allows connection to a pump to create the vacuum in the bottle.
