Abstract: The present invention relates to a cooking control method performed by a cooking apparatus for a food item. The method comprises obtaining a unique identifier and cooking data for the food item, and checking for a record of the unique identifier in a memory of the cooking apparatus. If a record of the unique identifier is located in the memory, then the cooking apparatus will not cook the food item. Otherwise a cooking process based on the cooking data to cook the food item is performed. Accordingly, cooking data for a given instance of a food item can only be used once in order to activate a cooking process performed by the cooking apparatus. The present invention also features product recall as well as the ability to track food item sales via a cooking data communications system.

  • Publication number: 20140238973
Abstract: A heater control method and apparatus for a gas sensor which can quickly activate a detection element while reducing load due to heating even when a higher power supply voltage is applied. A heater element is connected to a power supply whose voltage is higher than 16 V, and power is supplied under PWM control such that a temperature rise of the heater element follows a temperature rise curve obtained when a voltage of 12 V is applied to the heater element. Even though a higher voltage is applied, the temperature rise per unit time during the ON time of the PWM control is decreased. This is because the ON time per cycle is shortened by increasing the PWM frequency to 30 Hz or higher. Thus, the temperature rise per cycle is kept low, whereby the temperature rise per 0.1 second is rendered less than 25° C.

  • Patent number: 8555775
Abstract: A method for operating a boiler of a device, such as a coffee maker, includes initial steps aimed at determining whether the boiler is filled with water or not. In the process, the insight that the thermal behavior of an empty boiler differs from the thermal behavior of a filled boiler is applied. A heating element of the boiler is used to generate heat during a predetermined length of time. As a result, the temperature inside the boiler starts to change. At a certain point, the temperature change over a time interval having a predetermined length is measured. Subsequently, the measured temperature change is compared with a reference temperature change. In case the measured temperature change is larger than the reference temperature change, it is concluded that the boiler is empty and needs to be filled before the heating element is activated again.

Abstract: Systems and methods of heating an accurate quantity of a fluid. A determination is made that an event in which a relatively large quantity of hot water is used has occurred. One or more temperatures are sensed. An increase in a temperature set point is made if the sensed temperatures indicate a shortage of hot water for the event. A decrease in the temperature set point is made if the sensed temperatures indicate an excess of hot water was available for the event. No change is made to the temperature set point if the quantity of hot water available for the event was appropriate.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for performing an automatic cooking process in an oven, wherein the oven is in a preheated state with a first starting temperature (T0) in the beginning of said automatic cooking process. The method includes the following steps of switching off at least one heating element during a cooling down period (10) and finishing the cooling down period (10) after a cooling down time (tcd), when a predetermined first end temperature (T1) has been reached. The cooling down time (tcd) is detected. The method includes the further steps of switching on at least one heating element during a heating up period (12) and finishing the heating up period (12) after a heating up time (thu) and/or when a predetermined second end temperature (T3) has been reached. A mathematical function (14) including the cooling down time (tcd) and the heating up time (thu) is used in order to determine further parameters of the cooking process.

Abstract: Flash lamps connected to short-pulse circuits and flash lamps connected to long-pulse circuits are alternately arranged in a line. The duration of light emission from the flash lamps connected to the long-pulse circuits is longer than the duration of light emission from the flash lamps connected to the short-pulse circuits. A superimposing of a flash of light with a high peak intensity from the flash lamps that emit light for a short time and a flash of light with a gentle peak from the flash lamps that emit light for a long time can increase the temperature of even a deep portion of a substrate to an activation temperature or more without heating a shallow portion near the substrate surface more than necessary. This achieves the activation of deep junctions without causing substrate warpage or cracking.

  • Patent number: 8513575
Abstract: A method induces augmented levels of heat dissipation by exploiting quiescent IC leakage currents to control the temperature in high power devices. A heat control and temperature monitoring system (HCTMS) utilizes a thermal sensor to sense the junction temperature of a component, which becomes self-heated due to the quiescent leakage current inherent to the component upon the application of power to the component. By increasing the voltage level of the power source, this quiescent self-heating property is augmented, which serves to accelerate the preheating of the device, until the temperature rises above the minimum specified operating temperature of the component. The method further includes reliably initializing the system by applying full system power and triggering a defined initialization sequence/procedure.
