Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for binder removal and sintering of materials such as ceramic materials and products, LTCC intervals, solid oxide fuel cells and powder metals. A combination of microwave and convection/radiation heating is employed for binder removal and sintering. Preferably, the microwave heating is accomplished using a variable or multi-frequency microwave source. A gas atmosphere is provided in the furnace chamber by one or more eductors which produces a high volume gas circulation in the furnace chamber to achieve a highly uniform gas environment and temperature. The process in accordance with the invention controls the heating cycle, the heat sources and thermal profile depending upon the composition of the particular material being processed. The thermal processing can be accomplished in a batch furnace in which a product is loaded for processing and unloaded after processing.

  • Patent number: 6469287
Abstract: A combination microwave ventilated hood cooking system including a microwave oven with a cooking cavity; a magnetron for generating microwaves located adjacent the cooking cavity; and cooling fan outside the cooking cavity. The cooking cavity including at least two trays of different shapes and a stirrer for dispersing microwaves in the cooking cavity. A guide is between the stirrer and the cooling fan such that the guide has a downward slope from the cooling fan to the stirrer. During operation of the microwave, the cooling fan creates an air current, which is directed to the stirrer by the guide and drives the stirrer to disperse microwaves in the cooking cavity and direct an air current to cool the magnetron.

  • Patent number: 6452143
Abstract: A driving mechanism for linearly and reciprocatingly moving items in a heating chamber of a microwave oven is provided. The driving mechanism includes a rectangular tray for loading thereon an item to be heated within a heating chamber and a driving motor for generating a rotational force. A cam is provided for converting the rotational motion of the driving motor into a linear and reciprocating motion of the tray. The driving mechanism also includes a roller assembly mounted between the bottom of the heating chamber and the tray, the roller assembly including rollers for supporting the tray so as to linearly and reciprocatingly move the tray. Convex portions are formed on the bottom surface of the heating chamber on which the rollers move, and the tray can move in the vertical direction by means of the rollers passing over the convex portions. By moving the item both horizontally and vertically, the item can be uniformly heated, and the space within the heating chamber can be more efficiently used.
