Abstract: A resealable easy open lid that is composed of a lid and a pull ring riveted on the lid; the rear end of the pull ring is composed of an outer ring body and an inner tongue of the pull ring; the tongue is provided with an arched deformation area along the edge; the arched deformation area is an edge inclined to the inner side of the lid which is formed by die stamping on the tongue of the pull ring; the tongue is provided with a part arching to the outside of the lid; after the pull ring is rotated around the riveting point, the tongue of the pull ring covers the opening zone, and when the middle part of the tongue is pressed, the arched deformation area can be overturned and deformed to make it contact with the edge of the opening area to seal the area.

Abstract: A tab is provided, which includes a body having first and second opposing ends, a nose portion disposed at or about the first end of the body, a lift portion disposed at or about the second end of the body of the tab, and a rivet receiving portion disposed proximate the nose portion. The rivet receiving portion includes a generally planar portion, a rivet hole having a perimeter, and an upturned portion extending upwardly from the generally planar portion about the perimeter of the rivet hole. The upturned portion reinforces the rivet hole and has an arcuate cross section profile. An integral rivet extends through the rivet hole and is staked to affix the tab to a can end. The upturned portion is devoid of any corners or edges both before and after the integral rivet is staked.

Abstract: A tab is provided for a can end. The can end includes an end panel and a scoreline defining a tear panel in the end panel for providing an opening in the can end. The tab includes a body having first and second opposing ends, a nose portion located at or about the first end, a lift portion located at or about the second end, and a rivet receiving portion disposed proximate the nose portion. The rivet receiving portion includes a rivet hole. A first rivet extends outwardly from the end panel and fastens the rivet receiving portion of the tab to the can end. A second rivet extends outwardly from the end panel to cooperate with a portion of the body proximate the lift portion.

Abstract: An easy open closure (10) for food or beverage containers and comprising a centre panel (27) surrounded by a circumferential score (16) and an outer seaming panel (17). The closure further comprises a tab (11), the tab being fixed to the centre panel by a rivet (12) formed in the centre panel (27) such that lifting of a radially inner region of the tab (11) forces a nose portion (24) of the tab into contact with a region of the centre panel adjacent to a radially inner edge of the circumferential score (16), thereby causing the score to fracture. A bead (19) is formed in and extending circumferentially around the centre panel inside and adjacent to the circumferential score (16) and at a radius outside of the rivet (12), the bead deviating inwardly from its circumferential path as it approaches the region in which the rivet (12) is formed, and the bead terminating adjacent to and on either side of the rivet.

Abstract: The invention is an easily openable (1) can end which provides an improved way of providing finger access under the tab for a consumer. A can end is disclosed having an end pane (2)1, the end panel including a moveable portion (7) on which the tab is mounted. Finger access is provided by the moveable portion being moveable from a predetermined first state to a predetermined second state to thereby displace the handle of the tab away from the end panel and define a gap between the handle of the tab and the end panel suitable for finger access by a user.

Abstract: A crown, for a medical vial opening, has a top portion and a skirt surrounding the top portion. The skirt terminates at a lower edge defined in a first horizontal plane. An opener assembly is mounted to a portion of the top. A first scoring line extends from the portion of the top to which the opener assembly is mounted to the lower edge of the skirt in a continuous radial direction, and a second scoring line provides an upper radial segment extending from the opener assembly to the skirt along a radial axis, and a lower annular segment that extends circumferentially along the skirt in an annular direction and extending from a terminus of the upper radial segment, the lower annular segment defined in a second horizontal plane equidistant to the first horizontal plane associated with the lower edge of the skirt.

Abstract: A can for containing a liquid having a top end is disclosed. The top end has (a) a dispense area defined by a first score line and (b) a pull tab coupled to the top end by a first rivet. The pull tab punctures the dispense area to open a dispense aperture upon lifting an actuating end of the pull tab. The top end has (c) a vent area defined by a second score line and (d) a secondary lever coupled to the top end by a second rivet, and has a puncturing end for puncturing the vent area to open a vent aperture upon lifting an opposite, actuating end of the secondary lever. The secondary lever and pull tab interlock so lifting the actuating end of the pull tab triggers lifting of the actuating end of the secondary lever, opening both dispensing and vent apertures in a single movement.

Abstract: A rotating tab is provided. The tab includes a body having a first end and a second end disposed opposite and distal from the first end, a nose portion located at or about the first end of the tab, a lift portion located at or about the second end of the tab, and a rivet receiving portion disposed proximate the nose portion. The rivet receiving portion includes a rivet hole. A rivet extends through the rivet hole and is staked to fasten the rivet receiving portion of the tab to a can end. The body of the tab is structured to be rotated about the rivet to align a portion of the tab with a secondary scoreline in the can end. A portion of the tab is structured to be depressed to sever the secondary scoreline to vent the can end.

Abstract: The present invention is a flip-up pop-tab in which a partially detachable portion of a lid of a can is separated from the can and hinged away from the opening created in the lid.

Abstract: An improved beverage container of the type having a lid, a pour panel defined in the lid by a pour score and a vent panel defined in the lid by a vent score. A tab pivotally is mounted to the lid, wherein lifting the tab about a pivot in a lifting direction fractures the pour score and opens the pour panel. A secondary tab is carried by the tab, and is released into contact with the vent panel by lifting the tab to fracture the pour score, wherein pressing the tab in a direction generally opposite the lifting direction causes the secondary tab to fracture the vent score and open the vent panel. At least one anti-rotation member is disposed between the tab and the lid to prevent the tab from rotating about the rivet.

Abstract: A wing shaped beverage can pull tab that is wide and tall enough to accommodate advertisements, logos, slogans, contest announcements, graphics, website addresses, etchings, or other marketing, promotional or informational messages targeting the consumer of the beverage. The wing shaped can pull tab can be detached from the can and stored in a pocket without causing injury because of its smooth round edges and compactness. The wing shaped can pull tab is large enough that it does not fall into the can when detached and create injury or choking hazard. The wing shaped can pull tab has a U shaped lift end that accommodates the insertion of a finger to lift the tab to actuate the opening of a can more easily. The contoured U shaped lift end of the wing shaped can pull tab also accommodates the septum of the nose to allow consumption of the beverage from the can without having to tilt the head too far back.

Abstract: A can end for a beverage container has a center panel about which a circumferential strengthening member extends. The center panel has a rivet attaching a tab to a public side of the center panel. The tab has a cleat formed at a nose end. The cleat intersects a diametrical line of the can end drawn through a lift end of the tab, the nose end, and the rivet. The cleat extends downwardly towards the public side of a tear panel such that a distance from a lowermost portion of the cleat to the tear panel is less than a distance of an uppermost portion of the cleat to the tear panel. The cleat has a compressed portion of the curled portion forming a substantially V-shaped crevice on an upper surface of the tab.

The crown may be formed from tinplate with a hardness of T4 as measured by the Rockwell 30T Hardness Scale so that the crown may be opened and removed from the container the a force of approximately 2.5 Kg.

A second score line has as segment that extends from the opener assembly to an endpoint substantially spaced from the bottom annular edge of the skirt.

Abstract: A pull tab crown for a bottle or other container provides a pull tab ring and a pull tab secured to the top of the crown by a rivet to form a pull tab assembly. A seat in the top of the crown formed by an indentation allows the pull tab assembly to rest flush with the top of the crown. One or more score lines extend from the pull tab assembly to rim of the crown. One of the score lines has a segment that extends for a distance equidistant from the top of the crown and the edge of the crown. The score lines have a curved cross-sectional profile.

Abstract: An easy open end for a pressurized food container, having an end panel and a conventional aperture score, surrounding the periphery of an aperture through which the contents of the container may be dispensed. A tab is provided to facilitate easy opening of the aperture. The easy open end also includes a vent score, which is arranged to rupture before the main aperture score, to vent the internal pressure in the container, before the container is opened. The end panel and/or tab also defines a shield to prevent the egress of product from the vent opening, when the vent score is severed.

Abstract: A beverage container includes a can body having a side wall, a neck portion of reduced diameter, a closure lid and an anchor structure on the closure lid. The anchor structure is offset with respect to the center of the lid. A pull tab has a mounting hole which fits onto the anchor structure. One end of the pull tab has a grip handle, and the other end has a puncturing nose. The pull tab is turnable on the anchor structure, and thus also turnable with respect to the closure lid. The pull tab is of a length whereby it normally just fits between the opposite locations of a peripheral groove on the closure lid. The pull tab can be manually turned from a first position overlying the closure lid, to a second position wherein it overhangs one part of the peripheral groove. The construction thus provides an extended handle length to permit the user to more easily grasp and raise the pull tab, and open the container, for use.

Abstract: A crown for a bottle or other container, the crown comprised of a pull tab ring and a pull tab secured to the crown by a rivet and one or more cut lines between the rivet and the rim of the crown. The crown may be formed from tinplate with a hardness of T4 as measured by the Rockwell 30T Hardness Scale so that the crown may be opened and removed from the container the a force of approximately 2.5 Kg.

Abstract: An easy-open beverage container which can be selectably reclosed and reopened, after it has been opened. A unitary opening and reclosure structure attached to the end wall by a hinge connection permitting selectable movement of the unitary member on a first path normal to the end wall and on a second path parallel to the wall. The end wall having a selectively separable region of predetermined weakness forming an openable panel recessed a limited distance below the level of the wall. A portion of the openable panel retained to the wall by a hinge formed by a disruption in the separable region on predetermined weakness. The recessed region being surrounded by a platform and side wall located a limited distance from the openable panel.

Abstract: An easy open can lid having: a panel portion, which is formed of an approximate disc shape, and in which a flange portion for fixing a can trunk is formed integrally on an outer circumference; a score line, which is formed near the periphery of the panel portion along the outer circumference of the panel portion; an opening piece, which is defined by the score line; and an opening tab, which is fixed near the periphery of the opening piece. This easy open can lid of the invention is characterized in that the score line is formed of an arcuate along periphery of the panel portion and both ends thereof are separated, and comprises a connecting portion connecting the opening piece with the panel portion, which is formed between the both ends of the score line, and a strength incrementing portion, in which a rupture strength thereof increases gradually toward the end portion of the score line.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to a tab used to open food can ends and beer/beverage can ends. The tab has a nose portion located at a front end of the tab and a lift portion located at a back end of the tab. The tab also has a rivet receiving portion located proximate to the nose portion with a rivet hole. The rivet receiving portion is coupled to the nose portion. The rivet hole has a non-round perimeter with a first diameter portion and a second diameter portion. The first diameter portion has a plurality of first arcuate segments and the second diameter portion has a plurality of notches. The second diameter portion is greater in length than the first diameter portion. Tooling for the manufacture of the tab is also provided. A method for manufacturing the tab is additionally provided as well.

Abstract: A tab is provided to facilitate opening of a can end. The tab has a nose portion located at a first end of the tab and a lift portion located at a second end of the tab opposite the nose portion. A rivet receiving portion is located proximate to the nose portion, and includes a rivet hole. A flange extends rearwardly from the lift portion of the tab to define a gap. The gap provides increased space between the underside of the flange and the exterior of the container end, thereby facilitating opening of the container end.

The rivet base scoreline includes an arcuate head portion, first and second arm portions extending from the arcuate head portion, and first and second ends. The base of the rivet has a radius of curvature forming an intersection between the stem of the rivet and the public side of the severable panel. The arcuate head portion of the rivet base scoreline is contiguous with the radius of curvature. The pull tab includes a nose portion having a number of apertures aligned with corresponding portions of the rivet base scoreline disposed thereunder.

Abstract: A device is disclosed for re-closing an opening in a can having a tab opener. The device comprises a mount piece having an overall shape and flexibility that enables it to be pushed through at least one aperture formed in the tab opener thereby securing the device to the tab opener. The device further comprises a plug portion attached to the mount piece and configured to engage and at least partially close an opening in the can.

Abstract: An article surveillance includes a pair of components that are detachably connected together having a releasably grasping device engaging with an article intended to be protected. The device is coupled between the two components with a selected one of the components having an elongated prong insertably received within the other component and is held thereto by a ball clutch mechanism. The mechanism includes a tapered housing with an internal tapered wall surface enclosing a plug member having at least two balls carried in opposing grooves. The tapered housing and the plug member include a coaxial passageway for insertably receiving the elongated prong from the first component. The plug member is resiliently biased to a first position by an expansion spring causing the balls to bear against the tapered inner wall of the housing, restricting the passageway.

Abstract: An easy open can end having an improved rivet structure integrally formed thereon for the attachment of a pull tab, a method of further forming a can end to incorporate the improved rivet, and tooling for accomplishing the method. The further formation of the can end includes the steps of bubble formation, first button formation, and final rivet formation.

Abstract: A can lid for a can, including a top plate to which a tab having a tab nose is coupled by a rivet at the substantial center thereof, a tab nose recess formed in the top plate underneath the tab nose and having a smooth bottom surface with no step part, and a score formed in the top plate surrounding around the tab nose recess and having a start point and an end point located in front of the rivet and defining therebetween a hinge space.

Abstract: An opener for facilitating opening of a beverage can and precluding an entrance of debris or insects thereinto. The inventive device includes a beverage can having a lid extending across an upper end thereof. A guarded opening assembly is pivotally mounted to the lid and operates to effect fracturing of a frangible opening in the lid. The guarded opening assembly includes a screen positionable over the opening in the lid to preclude an entrance of insects or debris into the can.

Abstract: A container lid structure made essentially of plastics. The lid structure includes a lid frame and a lid plate. The lid plate includes an inner layer comprising a metal foil coated at the opposite sides by plastic layers and connected at the peripheral portion with the lid frame and a core made of a material which is not adhesive to or has a weak bonding power with the plastic material for the lid frame and for the plastic layer of the inner layer. The core is laid over the inner layer with the peripheral portion in an abutting relationship with the inner periphery of the lid frame. A holding member is formed on the core and bonded to the inner layer through apertures in the core. A pulling tab is also formed on the core and bonded to the inner layer through an aperture in the core.

Abstract: A container having a top wall being made at least partly of a support material and being coated. The container has an opening device with a puncture line, along which the pouring spout can be torn open. The improved pouring spout having an improved impermeability to gases of the container, and according to the invention having at least at one location of the puncture line a grip means and a tear-off means made of plastic being attached inside and outside to the support material. The tear-off means is preferably molded into a hole in the top wall to have a cross-sectionally rivet-like shape and has a grip means.

Abstract: A first part of plastic material (7), preferably a component of a package, is secured to a second part (2). Tubular projections (9) are formed in the first part and are introduced through a hole (4) in the second part. The projection (9) is shaped with an outer terminating portion (11, 12) closing the same, and forming a vaulted termination extending outwardly and provided with such a crease that it can be brought to an at least somewhat inwardly bulging position. After the second part (2) with its hole (4) has been placed on the projection (9), a surface is laid against the vaulted termination and is pressed against the same, so that it is inversely forced into its inwardly bulging position. In this position it causes such a widening of the portion (10;14) of the projection located inside of the termination that this portion forms a rivet head (13;19).

Abstract: Two sheets of deformable material are securely fastened together without the use of adhesives, separate rivets or fasteners by forming a closed end cylindrical projection on the upper surface of the first sheet, placing the second sheet having an aperture over the first sheet, the aperture receiving the projection, and deforming the projection in the aperture to produce a tight friction fit and form a lip which overlaps the exterior rim of the aperture to limit its enlargement. In a preferred embodiment two plates are fastened together to form a rotor by striking the projection with a die having an annular groove forcing one part of the projection into the aperture and forming another part of the projection into the lip.

Abstract: A cylindrical container having a circular top with a pull tab formed therein which is connected to an auxiliary rotatable lid fitted over the circular top so that upon rotation of the rotatable lid, the pull tab is torn back to create a dispensing opening in the circular top. The rotatable lid is provided with an opening which, when registered with the dispensing opening in the circular top, provides an opening through which the contents of the container may be poured.
