  • Patent number: 7950542
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a beverage container having an opening assembly apparatus and method having an advanced design for sealing the contents within the container after opening. The opening assembly includes a lid having a top and bottom side, the lid being attached to a receptacle for containing the beverage contents, and a recess located about the top side of the lid for facilitating the filling of the receptacle. An aperture is located about the recess and projecting from the aperture is an undulating flange on the bottom side of the lid. A closure member coactively engaging the aperture and recess to provide a sealing engagement by inserting a first portion of the closure member into the recess and a second portion of the closure member into the aperture and rotating the closure member from an opened position to a closed position. The closure member includes a breakable seal for providing security that the container is tamper free.

Abstract: A container and method are provided for storing fat containing liquid products. The container includes a body defining a storage chamber for receiving the product, and a container closure. A first material portion forms at least most of the surface area overlying the storage chamber that can contact any product therein. Neither the body nor the first material portion leach more than a predetermined amount of leachables into the product or undesirably alter a taste profile thereof. A needle penetrable and thermally resealable second material portion either (i) overlies the first material portion and cannot contact any product within the storage chamber, or (ii) forms a substantially lesser surface area overlying the storage chamber that can contact any product therein in comparison to the first material portion. A sealing portion is engageable with the body to form a substantially dry hermetic seal between the container closure and body.

Abstract: An externally threaded closure plug for tightly closing off the internally threaded opening in shipping and storage containers such as drums, pails and the like. The plug is formed as a cup having a bottom wall and threaded cylindrical sidewall terminating in a circumferentially enlarged rim. Immediately beneath the rim of the plug is a gasket seat defined by the undersurface of the plug rim, the plug sidewall and an annular gasket retaining lip lying in a plane parallel to the undersurface of the plug rim. In use, the plug is screwed into and out of a container wall opening, having an internally threaded portion and an unthreaded portion, the sealing gasket being compressed between the unthreaded opening portion and the plug gasket seat and lying in close proximity to the internal thread. The gasket seat acts to prevent interengagement of the sealing gasket and the opening internally threaded portion.

  • Patent number: 7861874
Abstract: A resealable can end is provided including a neck (10) and a cooperating cap member (12) which can be sealed onto and removed from the neck, and is capable of containing product under pressure or vacuum if desired. This end may be added, by convention seaming methods, such as roll seaming or by appropriate adhesive, to a container body, or may be formed integrally with container bodies. The venting feature of the end will achieve a controlled release of differential internal-to-ambient pressure upon initial opening of the cap, and may also provide resealed containment of partial contents retained in the container, although the contents will no longer be under pressure or vacuum, as the case may be. The end may be applied to, or incorporated in, containers made of various material, such as aluminum, coated steel, or selected plastics.

  • Patent number: 7780032
Abstract: A fuel cap of the invention has a pressure regulating valve, which includes a positive pressure valve and a negative pressure valve. The positive pressure valve has a positive pressure valve plug and a first spring, whereas the negative pressure valve has a negative pressure valve plug and a second spring. A valve support member is located in the upstream of the negative pressure valve to support the positive pressure valve plug. A tubular body is integrally formed with the valve support member. The tubular body eliminates the turbulence of the inflow of the air current and leads the laminar air flow into the negative pressure valve in its open position. This arrangement of the invention effectively increases the maximum flow rate of the negative pressure valve in the open position.

A spring stopper mechanism includes stopper support members that are formed along an inner circumference of a valve chest formation-member, and a spring support member that is held by the stopper support members and supports an upper end of the first spring. The spring support member is pressed down in an axial direction of the fuel cap against a pressing force of the spring. The spring support member at the pressed-down position is rotated relative to the stopper support members by a preset angle. Abstract: A closure assembly for a container including an internally-threaded annular flange, an externally-threaded closure plug that is received by the annular flange, and an annular gasket positioned between the annular flange and the closure plug for establishing a sealed interface. The container includes a container end panel that is formed over and around a portion of the annular flange and provides an inner axial wall that is positioned between the annular flange and the annular gasket. The clearance between the closing plug and the inner axial wall relative to the size of the annular gasket determines the degree of radial compression of the annular gasket as the plug is threaded into the flange. A radial lip of the plug is designed to contact an upper surface of the container end panel that is formed over the flange as a visual indication when the required tightening torque of the plug within the flange has been reached.

Abstract: A fuel cap has a cap main body, a cover with a handle, and a torque mechanism. The torque mechanism includes a torque transmission unit and click units. When the handle is rotated in a closing direction, torque is transmitted to a cantilever spring of the torque mechanism. The cantilever spring is deformed by rotation of the cover in the closing direction. After the spring is deformed by a predetermined amount, in response to rotation of the cover with respect to the cap main body by at least a preset angle, the click units make a click sound. When the user releases the handle, the spring force of the cantilever spring restores the click units to their initial positions. The cap device has a torque mechanism that has a simple structure and consists of a small number of parts.

  • Patent number: 7484636
Abstract: A fuel cap comprising a closure unit adapted to be fitted into an opening of a filler neck having ridges formed on its inner side face intermittently in the circumferential direction, so that it may be secured to the filler neck by engaging with the ridges during a turning operation. The closure unit includes a closure body, a seal ring, a turning control sleeve, a sliding sleeve, a base and a coil spring. The amount of the spacing formed between the lower end of the sliding sleeve and the base is set smaller than an amount of the downward sliding of the sliding sleeve, which is caused when the engagement protrusions formed on the outer side face of the sliding sleeve slip into lower face of the ridges formed on the inner side face of the filler neck.

  • Patent number: 7344042
Abstract: A fuel cap has a torque mechanism that transmits a rotational torque to a casing main body through engagement elements in response to rotation of a cover. When the rotational torque exceeds a predetermined level, the engagement is released to give a click. The first torque arm is constructed as a cantilever beam having a free end facing an arm support member across a preset gap. Under application of pressure, the first torque arm is deformed and transmits a rotational torque in the closing direction to the casing main body. This arrangement assures setting of the rotational torque of the torque mechanism to the predetermined level to apply a sufficient sealing stress to the fuel cap.

  • Patent number: 7338619
Abstract: A fuel cap 10 maintains high sealing even when subjected to external force; is easy to operate; and requires minimal space for accommodation. The cap device comprises a casing body 20 for closing the filler opening FNb in a sealed condition, a cover 40, a handle 45, a clutch mechanism 60 and a torque transmission mechanism 80. By upraising the handle to the handling position and applying rotational torque, rotational torque is transmitted to the casing body 20 via the clutch mechanism 60 and the torque transmission mechanism 80, closing the filler opening FNb. The handle 45 lowers back to the retracted position when released, whereupon the clutch mechanism 60 assumes non-transmission mode wherein the cover 40 and the handle 45 rotate freely if subjected to external force such as in a collision.
