  • Patent number: 7290673
Abstract: A cap device or fuel cap has a cap main body, a cover, and a torque plate that transmits a rotational torque. The torque plate is attached to the cap main body in a rotatable manner through engagement of catching claws formed on the outer circumference of the torque plate with catching projections formed on the cap main body. The cover is held on the torque plate in a rotatable manner through engagement of engagement projections formed on the inner wall of the cover with catching claws formed on respective fixation elements. The engagement projections are arranged about an axis of the cap main body and outside the catching claws. The engagement projections are thus readily released from engagement with the catching claws under application of an external force in any of diverse directions, for example, due to a collision of a vehicle, so as to maintain the sufficient sealing properties of the cap main body.

  • Patent number: 7287662
Abstract: An externally threaded closure plug for tightly closing off the internally threaded opening in shipping and storage containers such as drums, pails and the like. The plug is formed as a cup having a bottom wall and threaded cylindrical sidewall terminating in a circumferentially enlarged rim. Immediately beneath the rim of the plug is a gasket seat defined by the undersurface of the plug rim, the plug sidewall and an annular gasket retaining lip lying in a plane parallel to the undersurface of the plug rim. In use, the plug is screwed into and out of a container wall opening, having an internally threaded portion and an unthreaded portion, the sealing gasket being compressed between the unthreaded opening portion and the plug gasket seat and lying in close proximity to the internal thread. The gasket seat acts to prevent interengagement of the sealing gasket and the opening internally threaded portion.

  • Patent number: 7278547
Abstract: A fuel cap has a male threading element which is formed on an outer circumference of a closer of the fuel cap, a female threading element which is formed on an inner wall of a filler neck, and a handle. Rotation of the handle in a closing direction screws the male threading element into the female threading element. A stopper formed on the male threading element comes into contact with the start end of the female threading element to complete the closing operation. At this fully closed position, a gasket located between the closer and a sealing face of the filler neck is pressed and displaced in an axial direction to seal the sealing face of the filler neck with a sealing face pressure of not less than a preset level.

  • Patent number: 7048138
Abstract: A fuel cap has a torque member attached to an upper portion of a casing body. The torque member is a disk-shaped plate to transmit a rotational torque applied to a handle to the casing body. An interlocking recess and interlocking claws, which constitute a plate attachment mechanism, are arranged on the upper portion of the casing member. Fitting of the interlocking claws in the interlocking recess causes the torque member to be attached to the casing body in a freely rotatable manner. This simple structure of the invention effectively prevents the fuel cap from being easily damaged by an inadvertent operation, such as a careless drop of the fuel cap, and ensures the sufficient sealing properties of the fuel cap even under application of an external load.

  • Patent number: 7032768
Abstract: A steel-body vessel, suitable for storing ultra-high purity gases, has a relatively inert metal lining which covers the interior surface of the steel vessel body, preventing the stored gas from making any contact and reacting with the steel vessel body. The relatively inert metal lining extends into the vessel end pieces which are interiorly threaded, in the steel, proximate the relatively inert metal lining. The surface of the inert metal lining is conditioned to be smooth, preferably to 15 ?Ra or better. The vessel end pieces are sealed with end closure devices, which are secured by a securing portion carrying exterior threads to matingly engage the interior threads on the vessel end pieces. The end closure devices contain a sealing portion constructed of the relatively inert metal, which retains an annular sealing gland to seal the vessel in a removable, non-contaminating manner at service pressures when the end closure device is seated within the vessel end piece by means of the securing portion.

Abstract: A closure lid for a connecting element of a computer container, comprising an inner part which is maintained on an outer part of said lid and which is provided with an annular groove on the outer periphery thereof, said groove being defined by an annular web on the outer side of the lid and having a sealing ring inserted therein. In order to provide a closure lid which is embodied in such a way that it is possible to prevent the sealing ring from being raised radially from the base of the groove as a result of existing pressure and therefore to relieve the pressure inside the container before the open position of the closure container is reached, the annular web disposed on the outer side of the lid is provided with an uneven bearing surface for the sealing ring.

Abstract: An oil filler device on an internal-combustion engine includes a filler neck having an oil filler opening and a closing lid for closing the filler opening. The closing lid has a cup-shaped closing cap which therefore has a bottom and a wall, a sealing device and a centering element interacting with a filler neck. The closing lid is equipped in the center on the bottom with a fastening section constructed as a flange, which fastening section reaches through the centering element and the centering element is fastened on the fastening section. In order to promote a dripping-off of oil situated on the interior side of the closing cap, it is provided that, for the fastening of the centering element on the fastening section, a holding ring is fitted onto the fastening section. The holding ring, on its ring opening, has radially inwardly projecting fastening lugs which extend diagonally with respect to the bottom and are applied to the fastening section.

Abstract: A fuel cap assembly for use on fuel tanks on large vehicles such as straight trucks and buses for reducing and preventing fuel fumes and spills from reaching outside of the fuel tank during fuel filling operations. The cap assembly has interior facing threads that wrap about exterior facing threads on the fuel receiving receptacles on the fuel tanks. The cap assembly includes a lid having a normally biased closed door that only opens when a fuel nozzle is pressed into the door. The cap assembly can be elongated to allow for an interior chamber that allows for an extra catch to stop fuel from reaching outside the tank during the filling of the fuel tank. An O-ring type seal also helps lockably seal the cap assembly to the fuel tank receptacle.

Abstract: Apparatus for limiting torque comprising a torque ring rotatably seatable upon a plug and a torque collar securable to the plug and holding the torque ring rotatably captive. Torque ring includes a torque ring aperture and an axially-protruding resilient finger. Torque collar includes a torque collar aperture and a finger aperture. Closing-direction torque applied to torque ring is transferred to torque collar and then to plug to rotate plug in the closing direction. Rotation continues until torque overcomes a resisting force wherein finger disengages from finger aperture, torque ring rotates relative to torque collar, and the amount of closing-direction torque that can be applied is limited. Opening-direction torque and rotation of plug is without limit. Over-compressing or under-compressing of gaskets can be eliminated and containers can be inhibited and/or prevented from leaking. The apparatus is compatible with both new and used plugs.
