  • Patent number: 6015062
Abstract: A resealable can end is provided including a neck member and hat member which can be sealed onto and removed from the neck member of the end, and is capable of containing product under pressure if desired. This end can be added, as by a conventional seam, to a metal container body to obtain resealing containment of partial contents retained in the container, and to provide an improved mouth construction (or pour opening) for better pouring and for comfortable direct drinking from the container. Also disclosed are improved methods of and apparatus for making such a resealable hat and neck type of container end.

  • Patent number: 6006942
Abstract: A container assembly includes a container member having an open end, and a lid threadably engagable with the container member for closing the open end of the container member. A locking member is provided on the lid which is engagable with a latch member located on an upper surface of the container member. The locking member is pivotable about a horizontal axis and prevents rotation of the lid with respect to the container member when the locking member is engaged with the latch member. A seal is provided between the lid and the container member. The seal is located between tapered wall members of the lid and the container member such that the seal is gradually compressed as the lid is threadably secured to the container member. The configuration of the lid and the container member, along with the seal, presents a torturous path for fluid movement, thus effectively sealing the container assembly.

  • Patent number: 6000585
Abstract: A dispenser or shaker is used to store and dispense powdery or granular substances, and a sealing device for the shaker forms a seal against the escape of the substance between the lid and the shaker body. The lid can be placed around the mouth of the shaker body, and they can be rotated relative to one another to "lock" the lid onto the shaker body. The lid contains a number of dispensing holes through which the powdery or granular substance contained within the container body may be dispensed. The sealing device is located within the sealing lid, and provides a seal between the lid and the container body to prevent the powdery or granular substance from being ejected from the space between the sealing lid and the container body. The sealing device includes an inner and an outer ring made of materials that allow effective mounting of the device within the lid and formation of an effective seal, yet that provide for easy removal of the sealing device for cleaning.

  • Patent number: 5992672
Abstract: A fuel tank cap structure which enables a cover member to be readily attached to a casing body. The fuel tank cap includes the casing body and the cover member that is rotatable in one direction relative to the casing body via a ratchet mechanism when a torque of or above a predetermined level is applied to the cover member. The cover member has fitting projections that are held by an outer ring member of the casing body. The outer ring member has a plurality of slits, which cause the outer ring member to be elastically deformed when riding over the fitting projections, thereby facilitating the engagement of the fitting projections with the outer ring member.

The oil fill snout has a draft angle to provide an outside vertical force component on the cap and sealing ring. The vertical force locks the protrusions into the respective recesses and provides a positive sealing force to the sealing ring when the cap is twisted into the snout and into the closed position. The two spiral grooves increase the resistance to back out and create symmetric force components. Abstract: A closure for the filler pipe of a tank, comprises a gasket mounted in a gasket housing and arranged to engage with a flange on an end of a filler pipe, a cap stem coupled to the gasket housing for relative angular movement about the axis of the filler pipe and having a central portion adapted to project into the filler pipe. A clamp ring carries a pair of clamping lugs adapted to pass through cut-outs in the flange and, after angular movement, to engage under the flange. A spring acts between the stem and the clamp ring to urge the clamping lugs into engagement with the flange. A cam acts between the clamp ring and the gasket housing to hold the clamping lugs out of engagement with the flange until the clamp ring is at a predetermined orientation relative to the gasket housing. A locking ring couples the stem to the clamp ring.
