Patent number: 6499619Abstract: A device and method are provided for securely holding a lid on a container. The device includes a base having an upper surface and a lower surface. An expanding means projects upward from the upper surface of the base. The expanding means contacts both the base and part of the container and can be arranged for applying a downward pressure to the base:for pressing the lid against the container. A method utilizing the device includes the step of placing the lower surface of the base against the lid of a container. A portion of the expander means then engages a portion of the container. The lid is then pressed against the container by forcing the base against the lid using the expander means.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2000Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Assignee: Fluid Management, Inc.Inventor: John Proctor Snow

Patent number: 6390522Abstract: A combination lid lock, lever and compactor device has a tubular structure bent into a shape resembling a lazy letter W or curvilinear structure with lobes. Welded to the bottom of one of the lobes is a small rectangular stabilizing plate. A non-skid end guard is located on one end, and a non-slip handle is located on the other end. The rectangular plate is located on a first lobe, and the second and third lobes provide more than three points of stable contact with the lid and handles of the refuse receptacle. The skid resistant capped end of the device can also be used to force refuse deeper into the receptacle. The device can be used as a lever serving as an auxiliary handle on a receptacle with wheels and a side handle on the side nearest the wheels.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2000Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Inventor: Allen E. Publication number: 20020008110Abstract: A pressure vessel in accordance with the present invention comprises a cover, movable between an open position and a closed position, and a clamp for releasably clamping the cover in its closed position. The clamp includes a handle for manually operating the clamp. The handle is movable between a first position, in which the clamp releasably holds the cover in its closed position, and a second position, in which the cover is free to be moved to its open position. The pressure vessel further comprises locking means, including a latch pin for releasably locking the handle in its first position upon actuation of the latch pin, and actuating means, including a flexible diaphragm which is responsive to an increase in pressure within the pressure vessel, for actuating the latch pin when the pressure within the vessel has reached a predetermined level.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2001Publication date: January 24, 2002Inventors: Walter A. Patent number: 6245229Abstract: The present invention relates to a point-of-use water treatment system unit. The unit includes a filter housing assembly having a filter tank assembly and a closure which utilizes a handle and cammed reciprocating lock blades to secure the closure to the filter tank assembly. A UV tank assembly includes a planar baffle plate and a vaned baffle plate to induce plug flow about a UV lamp assembly. A UV lamp assembly is used which simultaneously electrically and sealingly mounts to a UV tank assembly and electrical cap assembly using a bayonet mount. A bi-planar manifold assembly is used to interconnect components of the WTS unit and to provide an envelope for accommodating a water pipe assembly. The bi-planar manifold assembly enhances the compactness of the design of the WTS unit. Also, a support plate is disclosed which provides support to subcomponents of the WTS unit while also dissipating heat from a UV tank assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1999Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Amway CorporationInventors: Dennis J. Patent number: 6237803Abstract: An assembly of a formed wire roasting rack, a roasting pan and a foil cover, each of which is removable from the rack. Each of the pan and cover has a base, an upstanding sidewall, a rim and a peripheral bead formation surrounding the rim. The rack has a first pair of parallel elongated wire form sections terminating in upwardly extending portions providing outwardly extending wire handles, and a second elongated wire form section extending transverse to the first wire section and terminating in an upwardly extending portion at each end. At each end thereof, a bead gripping formation is provided. The bead gripping formations are sized and proportioned to grippingly retain the pair of pan and cover bead formations when one of the pan and covers is inverted to overlie and cover the other.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2000Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Handi-Foil CorporationInventors: Norton Sarnoff, Kraig Fletcher

Patent number: 6116452Abstract: The present invention provides an improved system and method for carrying and securing the lid of a container, such as a surgical sterilization tray. A tray is provided with rotating wire bail handles and at least two studs. The cover for the tray has a keyway and cutout which can be engaged with the studs when the lid is placed onto the case. Inadvertent disengagement of the keyway or cutout from the studs is prevented by the interaction of the handles with the lid. The lid is provided with slots and end panels which become mechanically associated with the handles when the handles are rotated to any of a variety of lid-securing positions. The association of the handles with the lid prevents any relative sliding motion of the lid and case which would allow disengagement of the keyway or cutout and the studs, until the handles are rotated to any of a variety of non-lid-securing positions. The system combines the handle and lid-securing functions in a very low part-count design with very few moving parts.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1999Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: SynthesInventors: Ross Jonathan Hamel, Michael Norman Langmaid

Patent number: 6106034Abstract: A rotary latch for a clamshell housing with truncated circular upper and lower lugs, that can if desired, be made in a single plastic molding and rotatably attached to the housing without any rivets, pins or screws. The upper lug has an arcuate extent of more than 180 degrees and the lower lug has an arcuate extent coaxial with the upper lug but less than 180 degrees. The latch is an annular plastic body that is deformed to snap over and rotatably mount on the upper lug, effected by an annular recess in the body that extends 360 degrees inside around the body so as the body rotates on the upper lug, it never loses contact over any portion thereof. The lower lug is axially offset from the upper lug and the latch body has a latch cup portion that scoops and aligns the lower lug with the upper lug in three orthogonal coordinates. The latch cup portion is also axially offset from the upper lug so it can pass behind the upper lug as the latch body is rotated from a latch position to a release position.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1999Date of Patent: August 22, 2000Assignee: Vardon Golf Company, Inc.Inventor: Dillis V.
