A closure cap has a thread for engaging the thread on the inlet stub. A latch member is arranged on the closure cap and includes a peripheral ring which is mounted on the base body of the closure cap so as to be axially journalled thereon for movement between an unlatched position whereat a handle of the peripheral ring projects beyond the upper surface of the base body to facilitate manually grasping the closure cap and for providing a visual indication that the latch member is in the unlatched position. The peripheral ring includes a toothing formed on the inner wall surface thereof for engaging the toothing formed on the outer wall surface of the inlet stub when the latch member is in the latched position thereby preventing an unintended rotation of the closure cap. Also, in the latched position, the handle is recessed in a recess formed in the base body of the cap.

    Abstract: A teakettle for boiling water, the covered kettle having a spout projecting therefrom whose mouth is normally closed by a whistle cap having an extension arm terminating in a pinion mounted for rotation at one end of a bail secured to the kettle and serving as a handle therefor. The pinion is engaged by a rack attached to the front end of an arcuate strip slidable within the hollow bail, the rear end of the strip being coupled through a slot in the bail to an external finger pad. To pour boiling water from the kettle, the user grasps the bail with his hand and manipulates the finger pad with his finger to push the pad forward, thereby advancing the rack and causing the pinion to rotate and lift the cap from the mouth of the spout. Release of the finger pad causes the cap to drop back in place on the spout and to return the finger pad to its initial position.

The disclosed pivoted closure device has a flash arrester and safety vent, with the resulting device being positionable on a vessel, such as a portable receptacle containing gasoline. A spring biases a closure cap on the device toward a closed position, and the spring bias is overcome if a predetermined pressure build-up occurs within the vessel to thus allow the pressure to be relieved. Should this occur, gas and/or fumes are expelled from the vessel, but only through the flash arrester. A handle and linkage assembly are provided for manually moving the cap from a closed position to open the receptacle by overcoming the spring bias thereon with the handle and linkage assembly being designed so as not to prevent release of a pressure build-up within the vessel while the cap is in a closed position.

    Abstract: A safety locking cover assembly for the dome of a tank truck of the type adapted to carry inflammable liquids. A cover is hinged upon a base attachable to the tank dome, and is moved between opened and closed positions by upward pivotal movement of a semicircular handle. The opposite ends of the handle pivot upon a locking bar extending beneath the cover top. The ends of the bar project from opposite sides of the cover and extend into recesses in catches mounted to the base, thereby normally preventing upward movement of the cover relative to the catches. However, the catches are spring biased against the base and are upwardly movable against the spring bias by high internal tank pressures. This provides a relatively large vent opening to vent the tank despite the fact that the handle may be closed. The cover can be manually opened by pivoting the handle through a 180.degree. arc. This moves the locking bar downwardly relative to the catches on the base.

    Abstract: An improved pipe cap comprises a cover and a U-shaped handle pivotally connected thereto. The handle includes a pair of rounded lugs which are adapted to engage an annular groove in the pipe end when the pipe cap handle is rotated toward its locking position. When the handle is rotated away from the locking position and towards the unlocking position, the lugs cooperate with the groove so as to cam the cover off of the pipe end. This novel camming action helps to overcome the resistance frequently associated with breaking the seal between a pipe end and a pipe cap.An alternate embodiment of the improved pipe cap is fitted with lugs having a pronounced flat on one side. The alternative cap is intended to fit on a pipe adapter having a flat locking rim instead of a groove. The rim includes two slots 180.degree. apart which are engagable by an appropriate wrench to thread the adapter onto a fill pipe. The lugs on the cap are located in such a manner that at most only one lug can fall into a slot.

    Abstract: A container is utilized to hold fluid under pressure and has a non-circular arcuate opening. A cover member is movable from an open position through the opening to a closed position in which a seal on the cover member sealingly engages a wall of the container. The cover member has an arcuate non-circular configuration corresponding to the configuration of the container opening. When the cover member is moved to the closed position, it may be skewed relative to the container opening so that portions of a side wall of the cover member are spaced relatively close to a side wall of the container while other portions of the side wall of the cover member are spaced relatively far from the side wall of the container. An improved seal is utilized to prevent leakage of fluid under pressure from inside of the container around the skewed cover. This seal includes a body portion which circumscribes the cover member and is disposed between a rim of the container wall and a rim of the cover member.

    Abstract: An inner cake pan is removably receivable in an outer pan whose side walls are spaced from the side walls of the inner pan for providing a water receiving space surrounding the inner pan side walls for insulating these walls from the oven heat during the baking of the cake. Novel locking means secures the two pans together so that the bottom of the inner pan contacts the bottom of the outer pan and, therefore, the inner pan bottom will be heated more rapidly than its side walls which are kept at a lower temperature than the bottom because of the insulating layer of water encompassing the inner pan side walls. Also, the releasing of the locking means at the end of the cake baking period will cause the water in the outer pan to float the inner pan and raise it for ready removal from the outer pan.
