Patent number: 5411162Abstract: A V-band coupling for use on an explosion-proof enclosure. The V-band coupling includes a V-band having a toughened layer along its interior surfaces for gripping the flanges on the enclosure which the V-band engages when it is installed on the enclosure. The roughened layer results in an increased coefficient of friction between the V-band and flanges which is effective for reducing the load experienced by the trunnion joints of the coupling during explosion events thereby allowing the explosion-proof enclosure to withstand high internal pressures without system failure.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1992Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Assignee: Allen-Bradley Company, Inc.Inventors: Joseph E. Patent number: 5361928Abstract: A closure assembly for sealingly closing the open top end of a material holding drum includes a cover and a rubber gasket. The cover has a central circular wall of a size corresponding to the drum open end and a peripheral flange which defines a downwardly opening annular channel for receiving the drum top end. The channel has a pair of radially spaced sidewalls, and each of the sidewalls has an annular rib for defining a seal receiving space within the channel. An annular rubber gasket is provided in the seal receiving space and has a contoured surface seated on a rounded chime on the top of the drum. The ribs engage opposite sides of the gasket to prevent lateral displacement of the gasket when the cover is fastened to the drum. An annular V-shaped groove on a top surface of the gasket defines a void between the gasket and the cover and in which a portion of the gasket is received when the gasket is deformed.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1993Date of Patent: November 8, 1994Inventor: Michael D. Patent number: 5284270Abstract: An improved lever latch ring for securing a cover panel having a plurality of tabs thereon to a container wherein the tabs extend beneath an outwardly extending rim forming an upper margin of the container and against an outer wall thereof. The improved lever latch ring includes an arcuate member having a lower horizontal portion that coextends the tabs. The lower horizontal portion is urged against the tabs by a lever latch connected to opposing ends of the arcuate member and when so urged confines the tabs against the outer wall and against a lower portion of the rim. A vertical portion is connected to the lower horizontal portion and extends upwardly therefrom in contact with an outermost portion of the cover panel extending intermediate the vertical portion and the rim. Engagement of the lever latch urges the vertical portion against the cover panel to press the cover panel against the rim.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1992Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: Self Industries, Inc.Inventor: Fred A. Patent number: 4711366Abstract: A pressure cooker which uses an elastic C-connector to fix a cover to a cooker body in airtight manner. Loosening and tightening of the C-connector are controlled by an operating handle. The operating handle has a relief valve at one end. The relief valve has a valve body and an adjustable valve rod so that when the C-connector is in tightening condition, the valve body is located on a valve seat on the cover. Pressure can be relieved through the relief valve or edge of the C-connector after it reaches a certain level. Pressure in the cooker will raise two safety pins to restrict movement of a rod so that removal of the valve body from the valve seat is impossible and thus removal of the cover is prevented for safe operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1986Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Inventor: Shin-I Chen
