Abstract: A vibration dampened fuel tank assembly includes a fastener system and a fuel tank having integrated retention areas for horizontal and/or vertical retention to a fixed surface. Each retention area includes an access area that leads to a mounting lip having a semi-annular opening for receipt of the fastener system. The fastener system preferably includes a bolt-like member, a compression surface and a vibration dampening member, wherein the vibration dampening member has a first and a second diameter such that the first diameter fits within the mounting lip opening while the second diameter overlies the mounting lip. When mounted, the fastener system is engaged to the mounting lip of the fuel tank and affixes to a fixed surface such as a floor or sidewall. Abstract: A mechanism for selectively securing a cover to a flange of a pressure vessel. The cover and flange each have openings that are aligned when the cover is in position facing the flange. The mechanism includes an anchor plate having a hole therethrough. A piston is slidable in a direction normal to the cover in alignment with the opening therethrough. A stud extends from to the piston with a stud head remote from the piston. The stud head fits through the opening of the closer of the cover and flange and through a wider portion of the anchor plate hole, and is positioned opposite the flange and cover from the piston when the cover is positioned over the flange. The stud head does not fit through a narrower portion of the anchor plate hole. A resilient member biases the piston away from the cover. Abstract: A system for mounting access plates for covering an access opening onto storage tanks and the like. A backing plate assembly comprising two semi-circular, rigid backing plates is provided. The backing plates are passed individually into the interior of the tank where the backing plate assembly is reconfigured. The backing plate assembly located within the interior of the tank provides a solid structure that can be used to anchor the access plate onto the tank wall over the opening. Interior and exterior gaskets are used to create a fluidtight seal around the opening and to facilitate assembly of the mounting assembly.

  • Patent number: 5391837
Abstract: A covered conduit box includes a cover which maintains screws, used to fix the cover to a base member of the box, captive, when the cover is disengaged. The cover includes stepped screw bores therein which allow the screws to cock slightly relative to the cover, to engage in mating channels provided in flanges on the base member, the flanges being angled away from the cover to provide a torque upon the screws, maintaining engagement between the cover and the body. The stepped screw bore maintains the screw captured within the bore unless pressure is applied against the end of the screw to cause a thread thereof to interact with sidewalls of the bore, at which point the screw can be disengaged from capture therein.

  • Patent number: 5346090
Abstract: The invention teaches apparatus suited for holding highly corrosive solvents heated under sealed conditions to temperatures up to 500.degree. C., for even extended durations. The apparatus is in the form of an open top vessel having a removable cover therefor, a seal cooperating between the vessel and cover, and clamping structures isolated radially beyond the seal from the vessel contents to hold the cover and vessel sealed together. The vessel and cover can be made structurally of chemically resistent material, such as a nickel alloy; or can be made as a separate chemically resistent liner, cover and seal structure contained within an outer pressure shell and cover, and clamping structures. The liner, cover, and seal would be formed of chemically resistent tantalum (Ta), platinum (Pt) or polytetrafluoroethylene. Gem-quality diamonds can be refined by using different related vessels exclusively to hold respective caustic, acid and rinse solvents, and moving the diamonds from vessel to vessel sequentially.

  • Patent number: 5297693
Abstract: A closure member for sealing an opening for a cavity in a housing to prevent fluid from being communicated to the surrounding environment. The closure member has a shaft with an end member having a irregular radial surface thereon. A first torque is applied to the irregular surface to move threads into corresponding threads in the housing to join the closure member to the housing. A self locking fastener has as stem with threads that extend from a head that engages the housing when a second torque is applied to the head. A washer retained on the stem engages the irregular surface and deforms as the second torque is applied to the head. The deformation prevents relative rotation to thereafter occur between the closure member and housing to assure that the opening in the cavity remains sealed.
