Abstract: Disclosed herein is a food container having a durable storage compartment that is fixed to the lid by a hinge and a plurality of connectors. The food container may be formed from borosilicate glass or another durable material that may be reused and will not deteriorate in the microwave or when exposed to extreme hot and or cold temperatures. The lid may be secured to the storage compartment so that the lid will not get misplaced when the food container is washed or otherwise not in use.

The cover covers the base and has a plurality of pivotal portions. The buckling elements are positioned to correspond to the troughs. Each buckling element includes an engaging block and an elastic arm connected to the pivotal portion. The engaging block moves away from the periphery of the cover when the engaging block is subjected to an external force. The engaging block is buckled into the trough via an elastic restoring force of the at least one elastic arm when the external force is removed. By this arrangement, the assembly of the buckling elements is simplified and its product cost is reduced. Further, the present invention conforms to the requirements for environmental protection.

The ridges are positioned substantially transverse to the bead and frictionally engaging the bead for securing the lid on the container opening. One or more retention tabs may also be provided on the inside surface of the skirt for engaging the underside of the bead on the rim.

The sides of the tray and lid peripheral edge portions may be substantially flat and free of projections, so that only the corners with the outer detent mechanisms offer significant resistance against opening.
