  • Patent number: 6398081
Abstract: A volumetric pump for dispensing a controlled and continuous flow of viscous fluid. The pump according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention can ideally dispense from a minimum of 1 mg/sec to 1 g/sec for fluids with a viscosity from 2,000,000 cps (Centipoise) down to 10,000 cps. Such flexibility in the range of viscosity extends the application fields of this pump to microelectronics as well as automotive and consumer products manufacturing. Two cams mounted with an opposing position of 180° on the same shaft generate an alternate motion of two concentric pistons. The alternate movement of the external piston in one phase pumps out the material through a dispensing needle and allows in the returning phase the viscous fluid to be charged in the dispensing chamber from the feeding container. The alternate movement opens and closes the vents during the different working phases.

  • Publication number: 20020008118
Abstract: A liquid dispensing system has a number of cartridges, preferably two or four, selectively coupled to a single motor with a respective clutch for dispensing dots of liquid at high speed. The motor drives a spur gear that meshes with individual spur gears associated with each of the clutches. Multiple cartridges are thus activated with a single motor and are housed together in one housing. Each cartridge is movable relative to the housing and is biased downward to a dispensing position with a spring. Air is selectively provided between the dispensers and the housing to drive the cartridges upward to a non-dispensing position. When the air is not provided, the spring returns the cartridge to its downward position. By moving the cartridge relative to the housing, the assembly can dispense at different locations without it being necessary to move the entire pump assembly every time a dot is dispensed.

Abstract: An abrasive particle metering device has a supply of fluid abrasive material; a feed tube through which the abrasive material flows; a metering wheel located very near to the feed tube, onto which the feed tube dispenses the abrasive material, and off of which a metered amount of abrasive material is ejected; a funnel to redirect and transport the metered amount of abrasive material; and a motor to drive the metering wheel. The abrasive material is supplied from a storage hopper or some external source. The amount of abrasive material ejected from the metering wheel depends on the rotational rate of the metering wheel. The motor controls the rotational rate of the metering wheel. The flow tube can have a contoured tip to conform to the perimeter of the metering wheel, and the flow tube can be raised or lowered relative to the metering wheel to accommodate various abrasive materials.

Abstract: In the electrically driven dispensing appliance, the electric drive acts via drive screws on thrust plates for dispensing material from cartridges. The drive screws are axially stationary and are in action relationship with a slide bearing said thrust plates. The drive elements which contain the slide and the drive screws are sealingly separated from the cartridge space. The different forces acting upon the two drive screws are supported by rolling friction on low friction bearings so that no tilting forces on the slide are generated. This arrangement does not require expensive longitudinal guides and their sealing. The drive elements are sealingly separated from the remaining appliance parts such as cartridges in an easy manner. The electric drive comprises a first gear motor for a drive under high load during advance and relief, and a second motor for the drive under lower load during the retracting and fast advance motions.

A specified dose is delivered over an accurately controlled interval of time, by decrementing the volume of a fluid reservoir upon each of a specified number of control pulses to a stepper motor, which moves a ball screw linear actuator with great precision on each control pulse. The reservoir is closed at the aerosol delivery position by a nozzle array, which is a thin sheet with myriad micro-via holes. The micro-vias are of the same dimensions and orientation, producing for a medical inhaler the desired micro-droplet volume, for example the volume of a 3-.mu.m diameter droplet from each micro-via, for each pulse.

  • Patent number: 6041976
Abstract: A caulking gun or adhesive dispensing tool is driven by an expandable drive mechanism. The drive mechanism comprises a threaded shaft interfitting with the threaded inner surface of a receiving sleeve. The sleeve carries a pusher plate into a caulk receptacle for engaging a tube of adhesive material. The shaft is attachable to the chuck of a common drill. Rotation of the shaft linearly translates the sleeve and hence the pusher plate into the caulk receptacle. A drive housing interposed between a drill and the caulk receptacle generally houses the drive mechanism and extends the length of the adhesive dispensing tool to provide for easier manipulation thereof. The adhesive dispensing tool may include a handle and a pair of wheels for easier manipulation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 6032832
Abstract: A glue head delivers lines or spots of glue onto a substrate, such as packaging materials, with precision positioning of the glue pattern, with short and balanced on/off compensation times essentially independent of glue pressure, and at high nozzle velocity. Pressurized glue advances into a plenum of the glue head preferably in a horizontal direction, then into a short and low-volume exit tube and through a nozzle, flowing in a direction perpendicular to the inflow direction. Flow to the nozzle is closed by a diaphragm valve comprising flexible elastomeric material which seats against the upstream end of the exit tube. An important feature is that glue actuator pressure is balanced, and smooth operation and glue delivery are achieved, by a rocker arm above the glue valve which, when the valve is closed by pushing the elastomeric material against the glue delivery tube, releases pressure on the glue at an upstream point in the glue plenum.

Abstract: A portable liquid dispensing device for delivering drinking fluids for consumption. A rechargeable battery powered pump is selectively actuated and controlled on demand through a manual actuator, and in-line check valve, and a pressure switch. The pump is attached to a portable storage vessel. When actuated, the pump evacuates the liquid through the vessel wall and fills a pipe segment. An in-line check valve holds terminal fluid pressure in the pipe downstream of the pump, and a pressure switch detects the liquid pressure in such pipe section. Multiple tubing sections transport the liquid to one or more dispensing valves.
