  • Patent number: 5881927
Abstract: In a pump mechanism attached to a container to fill a liquid and eject the liquid from the container, the pump mechanism includes: a cylinder having a liquid introduction port; a piston which is displaceable in the cylinder; an ejection guide path for the liquid, the path being communicated with the space in the cylinder, the liquid stored in the cylinder being ejected via the ejection guide path by a pushing force which causes the piston to be displaced from the original position to a displaced position; and a recovery device for restoring the piston from the displaced position to the original position by a gas pressure and storing the liquid in the cylinder when the pushing force is released. The pushing force causes the space in the piston to enter a substantially vacuum state, and the gas pressure is generated by a pressure difference between the internal pressure of the space and atmospheric pressure acting via the liquid on the piston.

  • Patent number: 5665070
Abstract: An infusion pump for providing a pressurized liquid flow from a collapsible, deformable reservoir bag includes a magnetically actuated pressurizing member that applies a pressure to the bag in response to the force of magnetic attraction applied by a magnet. In several embodiments, a bag is seated on a platen of magnetizable metal, and a magnet with a compressing surface is mounted for movement toward and away from the platen. As the magnet is moved toward the platen by the force of magnetic attraction, the bag is pressurized between the magnet and the platen. The magnet may be spring biased either toward or away from the platen to alter the relationship between the decreasing volume of the bag and the pressure applied to it, by compensating in a known manner for the change in the magnitude of the magnetic force with the distance between the magnet and the platen.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a dispenser of the type used for providing mured amounts of a paste, such as a toothpaste or shaving cream. A cylinder having a dispensing mouth but otherwise closed at the top is mounted for sliding movement within a casing in the bottom of which is a coiled spring and from which a piston rod extends upwardly toward the said mouth. A piston is slidably mounted on the piston rod with walls adjacent the inner wall of the cylinder, with a reed spring clip supporting the said piston. When the cylinder is pressed downwardly against the spring, the piston cannot move because of the gripping action of the reed spring clip and a predetermined amount of material is ejected from the mouth. Upon release of the cylinder, it moves upwardly under the force of the spring for a predetermined distance, and by action of the spring clip moves the piston upwardly. The parts are then in position for the next dispensing action.

This dispensing gun includes a longitudinally arc-shaped cartridge chamber, a piston with a similarly arc-shaped piston rod, a pawl and ratchet assembly to provide stepwise advance of the piston, a hand-controlled actuation assembly connected to the ratchet wheel and piston to push the piston against the movable bottom of the cartridge, and a spring to retract the piston upon release of the pawl and ratchet assembly.

  • Patent number: 4410105
Abstract: Apparatus and method for dispensing a gel containing seeds for planting. A container (11) has a piston (13) driven by a lead screw (14) for expressing the gel through outlet (12). A line (17) is wound around a control rotor (16) and a free end is secured at a fixed location (19). As container (11) is moved away from location (19), line (17) unwinds and rotates rotor (16) to express the gel at a rate related to the movement of the container (11), so that the operator does not have to match the dispensing rate to the rate of movement. In other arrangements the container moves towards the fixed location, or between two fixed locations. Other metering members may replace the line. Materials other than seeds in gel may be dispensed.

  • Patent number: 4408703
Abstract: A measuring and dispensing closure for containers of granular material employs a slide element slidable in and out of a container cap top. The slide element has a chute element positioned thereon defining a series of trap spaces into which granular material is passed from the container when the slide element is in its retracted position. When the container is turned upside down and the slide element is moved outwardly relative to the cap top, the chute chamber passes out from a discharge opening formed on the cap top to expose the trap spaces to atmosphere for dispensing the granular material. Communication between the interior of the container and the trap spaces during dispensing is prevented by a planar ledge portion formed on the cap top and underlying the space beneath the chute chamber member. The slide element is preferably formed of plastic molded material and also includes a biasing member to provide a return force against outward movement of the slide.

  • Patent number: 4350270
Abstract: A portable keg tapping unit, cooperable with a valved keg closure, has an outer body member which makes a bayonet connection with the closure and an inner body member with a lower portion that is rotatably and axially slidably received in the outer body member, an upper portion that comprises a pump chamber, and an intermediate portion above the outer body member. In the inner body member are a liquid passage that opens to its bottom and to a nipple at one side of its intermediate portion and a gas passage that extends down from the pump chamber and opens to its bottom in laterally spaced relation to the liquid passage. A vent passage, communicated with the gas passage below a check valve therein, has an outlet at another side of said intermediate portion, which outlet is normally blocked by a push button valve. A brief opening of the push button valve relieves excess keg pressure to prevent dispensing of wild beer.

  • Patent number: 4241850
Abstract: A personal protective device for repelling intruders comprising an exterior housing member of attractive appearance designed to be worn, secured to, appended from or otherwise conveniently carried on the person of a human being in the normal manner of a piece of jewelry. The housing member includes a fluid container for storing and dispensing a quantity of fluid as a spray jet. The intruder repellant fluid is completely and safely sealed within the dispenser container until the device is willfully actuated in order to fend off and mark an intruder by an offensive odor and distinguishing color.

  • Patent number: 4199311
Abstract: An extrusion implement includes a pair of generally cylindrical housing portions connected to one another by sets of complementary threads to permit a telescoping of one portion into the other. An open end of the smaller cylindrical portion is partially closed or restricted by one of a plurality of end caps providing various shaped apertures. A viscous material, such as modeling clay, is inserted within the cylindrical portions and a biasing device is provided to constantly urge the viscous material outwardly through the aperture. Relative rotation of the housing portions causes a telescoping effect to regulate the amount of pressure applied by the biasing device. An end cap is pivotally mounted to close the opening when the implement is not in use.

  • Patent number: 4131221
Abstract: A relatively compact and lightweight planting and fertilizing apparatus is attached to a small garden tractor by a universal hitch which restricts lateral movement between the two. The apparatus is spring biased downwardly to assure firm contact with the ground, and can be raised above the ground by a single lever. The lever carries the biasing spring, and cams lifting bearings on the lever against a lifting plate on the apparatus. The fertilizer is fed by an axially adjustable feed gear rotated by a ground engaging wheel on the apparatus. The feed gear is biased by an adjusting spring against a threaded adjusting knob which sets the axial position of the feed gear.
