Abstract: A butterfly knife scabbard including a housing incorporating an aperture sized to engage the locking latch of the knife handle to release the knife from the chambered position for facilitating actuation of thereof and method for its use.

Abstract: A knife sheath having front and back panels made of flexible material is lined with elongated flexible magnets affixed to the inner surface of the panels. The magnets grip the blade of the knife holding it in the sheath. Non-magnetic material separates the ends of the magnets at the sheath opening to facilitate entry of the knife blade into the sheath. A stiffener plate extending from a belt loop to the back panel prevents the connection between the belt loop and that panel from buckling when the knife is withdrawn. The stiffener plate may extend into the space between the sheath panels a substantial distance and have a flange on the edge thereof for preventing contact between the knife point and the edge of the sheath.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a utility belt comprises a belt adapted to be worn around the waist of a wearer, and a number of belt components removably mounted on the belt. Included among the number of belt components is a flexible pouch arrangement with a number of expandable pockets having a puncture resistant interior surface. The flexible pouch arrangement can be composed of a fabric, such as a nylon mesh, coated with a puncture resistant material, such as poly-vinyl chloride, that has sufficient stiffness to retain the shape of the pouch arrangement. The flexible pouch arrangement can also include a first pocket having an outer wall and a pair of loops affixed to the wall. A detachable pocket includes a pair of pressure adherent, or Velcro, strips corresponding to the pair of loops. The detachable pocket can be removably mounted on the first pocket by engaging the Velcro strips about a corresponding one of the loops.

Abstract: A safety holster for a folding knife having a handle and a folding blade with the holster having a frame formed of side plates with an upper spacer and a lower pivotal blade sheath having an upwardly facing pocket for the tip of a folding blade with the pocket pivoting from a vertical upwardly facing position to a downwardly facing position to drawn the knife blade away from the knife handle to a use phase when the handle is drawn downwardly and permit the knife handle to be drawn upwardly without drawing the blade away from the handle.

Abstract: A carrier for carrying hand tools is attachable to an inclined tubular member of the handle assembly of a lawn mower or other mobile lawn and garden appliance. The carrier comprises a sheath member of rigid or semi-rigid material having an open end to receive a hand tool, a solid closed end and a body portion therebetween. Intermediate the open and closed ends, the sheath member has an external groove therearound. The carrier further includes a metal band seated in the groove and a clamping member attached to the metal band and having confronting jaws for clamping engagement with the tubular member with the closed end lower than the open end.

Abstract: A sheath and knife combination providing an interlocking fit when the knife is inserted into the sheath. The sheath is provided with two upward extensions having a resilient leaf on one extension oppositely facing a hole on the other extension. The knife has two buttons disposed on opposite surfaces of the knife handle and connected by a shaft. When the knife is fully inserted into the sheath, the leaf contacts one of the buttons thereby forcing the opposing button into the hole so that the knife and sheath become interlocked. The knife may be removed from the sheath by pushing the button which engages the hole and pulling the knife out of the sheath.

Abstract: Knife sheath for pivotable knives such that a knife blade is automatically extended as the knife is removed from the sheath. The sheath has front and back faces with connected edges, but having two opposing first and second separated edge areas so that the knife blade may be simultaneously inserted through both separations. After a knife is inserted into the sheath through the separations, the knife is pivoted to enclose the blade in the sheath. As the knife is removed from the sheath, a connecting member adjacent to the upper edge separation causes the blade to extend.

Abstract: A double safety lock and quick release tool and tool holder assembly comprising a locking portion in the tool holder including two apertures and a matching locking mechanism in the handle of the tool. The locking mechanism including a pair of springs, each spring having a locking pin at one end and being fastened at the other end within the handle of the tool, the two locking pins protruding above the surface of the tool handle and tightly fitting within the two apertures of the tool holder. The locking mechanism also including two activators, each activator having a portion extending outside the tool handle and a portion within the tool handle resting on one of the springs. When the activators are pushed, the springs are forced downward, resulting in the locking pins being moved downward from the surface of the tool handle and out of the apertures of the tool holder, thereby releasing the tool from the tool holder.

Abstract: An ice prod set comprises two ice prods, each of which comprises a handgrip having attached to one end thereof a metal spike which extends coaxially with the handgrip and each of which prods is held detachably in a two-part prod holder. A first safety line extends between respective parts of the two-part holder, such as to form a loop for placing the ice prod set around the neck of a bearer, and a second longer safety line is securely fastened to the handgrip of each ice prod and to the holder. Each of the handgrips incorporates a hollow or cavity in which the second longer line can be stowed when the ice prods are carried in their respective holder parts. According to the invention the cavity has a part which extends axially within the handgrip of respective ice prods and merges with an opening provided in a lower outer wall-surface of respective handgrips.

Abstract: A knife sheath device includes a gripping or cutting type of tool such as a pair of pliers or wire cutters. The device includes a sheath pivotally mounted upon a back plate with the back plate and sheath cooperating to form and operate the tool. Portions of the tool are formed or attached to the sheath and also to the back plate, and the tool is operated by pivoting the sheath in relation to the back plate.

Abstract: A sheath for housing a retractable knife both in its retracted or unretracted state provided with a pair of pockets, one adapted to receive the knife blade and a second adapted to receive the knife when the blade is housed within its handle, and additionally capable of being folded into a more compact form when housing a retracted knife.

Abstract: A retainer for a knife sheath or pistol holster allows the weapon to be positioned at various positions relative to the strap. The retainer is fastened at its top and bottom to the weapon case by fasteners which leave spaces between the top and bottom. Sockets are secured to the case and face toward the retainer. The sockets are located between the fasteners at the top and bottom. Holes extend through the retainer. Pins insert through holes into the sockets. The pins may be selectively removed from the sockets to change the path or loop for the belt.

Abstract: A survival belt buckle is provided with a compartment for retaining a multiplicity of items for aiding in the survival of the user in wilderness areas and the like. A knife blade is dimensionally sized to fit within the compartment and is releasably attachable to a portion of the survival belt buckle to permit the buckle to act as a handle therefor. The survival belt buckle includes indicia associated therewith providing a basic description of survival techniques and skills allowing the buckle to be used with maximum efficiency by inexperienced persons.

Abstract: A holder or holster for a foldable knife in which the knife has a handle and a blade pivotably mounted to the handle is provided. The holster has a cam-fulcrum therein which bridges a forward portion thereof proximate the exit for the handle of the knife. The holster has a chamber therein to receive and hold the knife in a partially-folded position around the cam-fulcrum so that on withdrawal of the knife, the blade contacts and pivots around the cam-fulcrum and opens relative to the handle so that the knife is withdrawn from the holster in an open position.The holster can also have a second cam-fulcrum which bridges a rearward portion thereof so that on insertion of the knife into the holster, the back edge of the blade contacts such cam-fulcrum and is folded toward the handle as the handle advances into the holster.Accordingly, the foldable knife is automatically opened upon withdrawal from the holster and automatically folded upon insertion therein.

Abstract: A holster for suspending a folding knife from a wearer's belt is of elongated C-shaped form. The holster has end portions for gripping the ends of the knife, a spine portion against which the knife blade can be folded when inserting the knife in the holster, and a blade catch which fits between the blade and the knife body. When the knife body is pulled from the holster the catch presses against the blade thereby unfolding the knife. The knife fits in the holster with the blade pointing down, and the holster has an opening aiding discharge of foreign material therefrom. A spring detent in one end portion of the holster allows knives of somewhat different length to be accommodated.

Abstract: A positive lock and quick release knife and sheath wherein an abutment extends from the sheath and through the knife and a spring normally urges the knife against the abutment to positively prevent movement of the knife relative to the sheath, and the front or outer wall of the sheath being shortened to facilitate quick release of the knife from the sheath when the spring is overcome and the knife is moved away from the abutment.

Abstract: A positive delivery sheath for a knife of the type having a handle and a blade housed within the handle when not in use, and a flexible strap connected at one end to the sheath and normally encircling the knife within the sheath to protect the knife against accidental removal, and the strap being extensible to positively deliver the knife from the sheath when desired.

Abstract: A scabbard for holding a knife having a folding blade, the scabbard having means therein for engaging thumb slits in the blade of the knife while the knife is being removed from the scabbard to enable the user of the knife to pivot the blade to the open position as the knife is being withdrawn from the scabbard. The means for engaging the thumb slits in the blade can be two pins mounted in the side of the scabbard or two longitudinal ridges or springs extending from the inner walls of the scabbard to engage a substantial length of the thumb slit in the blade of the knife. In one embodiment of the invention, the conventional thumb slits of a folding knife are extended to the end of the portion of the knife blade which first contacts the means for engaging the knife blade to enable the thumb slits to be engaged by the ridges, springs, or pins in the scabbard.

Abstract: A plier sheath having an open end pocket for receiving and supporting a pair of pliers. The pocket is formed by folding over and by interconnecting the lower side portions of a flexible sheath panel. The plier sheath can be permanently or removably attached to a knife sheath in a superimposing fashion by fastener elements. The plier sheath may also be removably attached to a person's clothing item such as a belt with a loop disposed at the upper back portion of a plier sheath, through which the belt may be placed.

Abstract: A holder for a knife is disclosed comprising a base, a rear portion, first and second side portions, and first and second flexible portions, with the first and second flexible portions forming the front portion of the first and second side portions and pressing inward to secure the knife within the holder, with the blade of the knife held in an open area between the first and second flexible portions for easy access and utilization.

Abstract: A belt buckle knife is disclosed in which a knife portion can be removed with the knife blade locked in its open position without the need of removing the belt buckle knife from the belt. The belt buckle knife includes a buckle portion which engages and fastens the belt independent of the knife portion being attached to or removed from the buckle portion. The knife portion is selectively operable from a knife closed position to a knife open position. In the knife closed position, the knife blade is engaged by a part of the buckle portion, with the knife portion and the buckle portion being securely fastened together. In the knife open position, the knife blade is locked open with respect to the knife handle, and the knife portion can readily be removed from the buckle portion.

Abstract: A belt-mountable scabbard for carrying a sportsman's knife comprises spaced apart walls defining an elongated recess for receiving and protecting the blade of a knife carried in the scabbard. A knife blade sharpener is permanently mounted on the scabbard and comprises a blade-receiving sharpening slot formed in the scabbard and a pair of angularly arranged abrasive elements permanently attached to a wall of the scabbard near the sharpening slot for making sliding engagement with the edge of a knife blade being moved in the slot to effect sharpening.

Abstract: Device for locking a knife having a pommel projecting from the knife handle into a sheath, comprising a rigid ring pivotally supported on the hanger portion of the sheath and adapted to be pivoted from a locking position about the pommel into a non-locking position, in which the ring lies in a plane parallel to the length of the knife when the knife is in the sheath. A leaf spring with one end fixed to the sheath engages a dog projecting from the base of the ring for selectively spring-loading the ring in either a non-locking position or a locking position in which the ring engages the pommel.

Abstract: A knife and sheath combination in which a spring loaded detent projects from the handle of the knife to engage an extension of the sheath whereby the knife is locked into the sheath against inadvertent removal. The knife handle is secured to the knife blade by an assembly that includes the spring loaded detent. The assembly can be removed to separate the handle and the blade for cleaning.

Abstract: This invention is a knife sheath structure readily connected to a belt member adapted to receive and convey a knife member therein. The knife sheath structure includes (1) a main knife support assembly to vertically and laterally support the knife member therein; (2) a vertical support assembly secured to the main knife support assembly and releasably connectable to the belt member; (3) a cover assembly secured to the main knife support assembly adapted to cover a portion of the knife member to restrict upward and lateral movement thereof; (4) a sharpener and connector assembly connected to the vertical support assembly. The sharpener and connector assembly includes a connector ring having a sharpener plate member secured thereto. The connector ring is of rectangular shape adapted to receive a portion of the main knife support assembly to connect to the belt member and a portion of the cover assembly to hold the knife member in a conveyance position.

Abstract: A small weapon, such as a short-bladed defensive knife can be innocently concealed in an article of ordinary apparel, such as a belt, according to the present invention in such a manner as to both be securely retained within the article of apparel and be quickly and simply withdrawn by a simple, single motion when needed in instances of self-defense. The weapon is retained within the article of apparel by frictional engagement between the article and the weapon, which is primarily achieved by different curvatures of the holster, which is combined with the article of apparel, and of the weapon. The frictional engagement between the weapon and the holster can be increased by providing additional end clips, protrusions, or other attachments between the weapon and its holster.

Abstract: A carrier for a bricklayer's trowel is in the form of a leather holster with a pocket which is suspended from a hanger. The hanger is designed to be hung from the user's body belt. The pocket is V-shaped with an inclined edge along its upper opening so as to serve in orienting the tool in the holster. The pocket has a folded tab at the bottom to provide protection from the blade point and simultaneously provide openings through which a screwdriver can be inserted to dislodge hardened cementitious materials that inadvertently enter the pocket area. A leather blank with an integral arrangement of the leather parts other than a spacer used in the construction is shown.

Abstract: A carrier for a drywall taper's broad knife has a main pocket for the broad knife and an auxiliary pocket for a shear knife. The carrier includes three pocket wall forming components that are preferably made from leather. The opening at the upper end of the pocket is generally inclined and the arrangement is such that the handle of the broad knife comes to rest in a recessed upper edge portion at the upper end of one of the narrow side walls while the working edge of the knife blade confronts the opposite narrow side wall in the pocket structure.

Abstract: A golf tee awl for making holes in the ground to make it easier to insert golf tees. The awl has a circular knob-shaped handle with a sharpened shank or spike protruding therefrom and a protective sheath which covers the sharpened shank when the awl is not in use. The sheath has an elongated shank receiving member which is fixedly connected to a clip which fits on the belt of a person using the awl. The clip has an outwardly extending awl retaining portion which releasably engages the awl handle to retain the awl in the sheath, but may be deflected out of engagement with the handle to permit withdrawal of the awl from the sheath. The shank receiving member and handle are preferably made of plastic and the clip for the sheath is preferably made of metal.

Abstract: A sheath and sheath knife wherein the sheath is of rigid construction fabricated from a formed metallic liner and a leather covering. This invention relates to a sheath knife and unique sheath device assembly. The assembly is of a nature incorporating a rigid belt type sheath device adapted to receive a waist-line belt through a belt loop portion thereof. The sheath device is configured to provide a discreet offset between the plane of the belt loop portion and its holding sheathing portion.

Abstract: A flat trowel carrier has a main pocket for the flat trowel and an auxiliary pocket for another trowel. The main pocket is formed by a pair of pliable components. One component forms the back wall of the pocket and the other component has a pair of narrow marginal portions that straddle the opposite side edges of the back wall forming component and are fixed thereto at its back face. The front wall has a vertically extending wall strengthening and rib forming medial portion and at the top of the front wall, the pocket has a V-shaped opening which terminates at its lower end at the upper end of the rib forming medial portion.

Abstract: A knife sheath including a spring pressed locking pin engagable with a hole in the handle of the knife to positively retain the knife in the sheath. The sheath also includes a buckle fastened to one side of the sheath and an adapter including a strap extending along the same side of the sheath and engagable with the buckle to provide a loop for retaining the sheath on a belt extending about a person's waist. Alternatively the strap may be removed from the buckle and the buckle connected with a shoulder harness to support the sheath and its knife upside down under a person's shoulder.

Abstract: A knife, comprising a handle and an attached blade, is provided with an aperture in the handle for receiving a protrusion from a support element adapted to be attached to the knife. The support element comprises a sheath having an outstanding resilient tongue carrying the protrusion at a position such that, when the knife is inserted into the sheath, the protrusion resiliently snaps into the aperture in the knife handle to prevent withdrawal of the knife from the sheath until the protrusion is manually pressed out of the aperture by the finger of the user.
