Patent number: 5540373Abstract: A pinch roller type tape drive for driving a magnetic tape on a VTR or the like comprises a capstan for driving the magnetic tape, and a pinch roller for pressing the magnetic tape against the circumference of the capstan so that the magnetic tape may not slip relative to the circumference of the capstan. The outermost layer of the pinch roller is formed of an elastic material having a hardness higher than that of rubber, which is used for forming the outermost layer of a conventional pinch roller. The pinch roller is capable of pressing the magnetic tape against the circumference of the capstan at a sufficient pressure without contacting the circumference of the capstan.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1992Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Yasuo Sugizaki, Akira Suzuki, Shigeru Masuda

Patent number: 5540371Abstract: A method of adjusting a wire feeder having a pusher system (12) and a puller system (14) to avoid birdnesting and collapse of the wire (11) in the wire guide or conduit (13) when the tip (15) of the wire feeder is blocked or a wire jam occurs. The pusher system (12) is adjusted by activating both the pusher system (12) and the puller system (14), adjusting the pusher system (12) to provide a desired wire feed speed when the tip (15) is not blocked, blocking the tip (15), and adjusting the pressure exerted by the rollers (22) of the pusher system (12) so that these rollers (22) slip on the wire (11) when the tip (15) is blocked. The puller system (14) is adjusted by disabling the pusher system (12), blocking the tip (15), activating the puller system (14), and adjusting the pressure exerted by the rollers (32) of the puller system (14) so that these rollers (32) do not slip on the wire (11).Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1994Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Inventor: Malcolm T. Patent number: 5505148Abstract: A side-by-side material feed system is provided for feeding two dissimilar strips of material. The material is fed along parallel feed paths by first and second material feeders which move the material toward respective cutters. The operation of the feeders and the cutters is controlled by a programmable controller which permits each of the material strips to be fed and cut to form pieces of predetermined length which may be removed by an operator or conveyed to a subsequent station for further processing. In a further embodiment of the invention, the feeders are supported on an ergonomic arm mounted to a portable cart whereby the feeders may be used at different sewing stations and the ergonomic arm may be positioned at an optimum location for each of the sewing stations.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1993Date of Patent: April 9, 1996Assignee: MIM Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ralph F. Patent number: 5497928Abstract: Wire is fed along a predetermined path by virtue of being pinched between an upper set of feed rolls and a lower set of feed rolls while the upper and lower rolls are rotated in opposite directions. The upper feed rolls are journaled cantilever fashion by an upper carrier which is fixed to the main frame of the apparatus. The lower feed rolls are similarly journaled by a lower carrier which is adapted to be moved upwardly toward the upper carrier to cause the lower feed rolls to pinch the wire against upper feed rolls after the wire has been threaded between the rolls. The lower carrier is moved upwardly by actuators which are offset laterally from the cantilevered rolls.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1994Date of Patent: March 12, 1996Assignee: Rockford Manufacturing Group, Inc.Inventors: Irvin Burns, Patrick Robbins

Patent number: 5370290Abstract: A pusher system (12) extracts a wire (11) from a reservoir (10) and feeds the wire through a wire guide (13) to a puller system (14). The puller system then feeds the wire (11) through a tip (15) to the welding operation represented by an arc (16) and a work piece (17). The pusher system (12) has a motor (20) adjusted so as to feed the wire (11) at the desired rate. A pair of rollers (22), which are driven by the motor (20), are designed to slip on the wire (11) if the wire becomes jammed or blocked. The puller system (14) has a limited torque motor (30). The limited torque motor (30) drives a pair of rollers (32) which firmly grip the wire (11) and do not slip on the wire (11). If the wire (11) becomes blocked or jammed then the motor (30) will stall. The combination of the pusher system (12) and the puller system (14) provides a wire feeder which does not damage the wire (11) and which does not cause birdnesting if the wire is jammed or blocked.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1992Date of Patent: December 6, 1994Inventor: Malcolm T. Patent number: 5368212Abstract: The apparatus for infeeding a cable in a predetermined infeed direction to an automatic cable processing machine enables moving standard cables and cables of reduced wall thickness at high velocities between the drive surfaces of two revolvingly contacting or confronting drive belts of two belt drives. By separating a drive roller synchronously driven with respect to the two belt drives from the measurement drive roller of a cable length measurement device it is possible to vary the diameter and thus the peripheral velocity of such drive roller. Consequently, there can be continuously applied to the cable a tension between the belt drives and the drive roller in accordance with the direction of movement of the cable. This cable tension prevents dam-up of the cable at this region of the cable infeeding apparatus, precludes any possible lateral departure of the cable from the belt drives and affords an exact length measurement of cable sections of the cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1993Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Assignee: TTC Technology Trading CompanyInventor: Max Koch

Patent number: 5350102Abstract: A wire transport apparatus has a pair of rollers having opposed peripheral running surfaces which at their nip contact the wire to drive it, one of said rollers being driven. The driven roller is mounted on an arm swingable about a pivot axis. The arm also carrying a coupling pulley connected to the driven roller to drive it in rotation. The coupling pulley is itself driven in rotation by an endless flexible element whose tension tends to cause said driven roller to apply load to said wire. In order that variation of the tension in belt also adjusts the normal force applied to the wire by the driven roller, the pivot axis is parallel to the direction of wire travel, and the driven roller and the coupling pulley are on a common rotational axis perpendicular to the pivot axis, at different distances from the pivot axis. Excessive force on the wire is avoided, and wear is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1992Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: Hoogovens Groep BVInventors: Andries C. de Muijnck, Johan W.
