  • Patent number: 4949891
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively feeding tape having label patterns printed on it at one of two different speeds to maintain alignment of the label patterns with a downstream device such as a cutter for severing the tape between label patterns. Marks on the tape associated with the individual label patterns are monitored by a sensor to detect misalignment of the tape. The tape is fed between a driven feed drum and a spring biased pressure drum. The feed drum is mounted on a main shaft. A drive shaft extends parallel to the main shaft. A pair of gears are mounted on each of the shafts and each gear meshes with one of the gears on the other shaft to form two separate power transmission paths. The sizes of the gears are selected so that the gear ratios of the two power transmission paths are different. The gears on the main shaft are selectively fixed to the main shaft for rotation with it by electromagnetic clutches controlled by the sensor.

  • Patent number: 4925011
Abstract: The apparatus for conveying plate-like parts, especially circuit boards, of varying thickness, comprises an upper roller and an associated lower roller between which the plate-like objects are fed, and a gear-tooth system, connecting the lower roller with the upper roller, by which the lower roller drives the upper roller. So that the apparatus operates optimally even with substantially thicker than usual objects, the gear-tooth system is structured to maintain a constant axial spacing between the lower roller and the upper roller. The upper roller with its gear teeth is mounted with an upper roller bearing in a circular arc-shaped coulisse, and the arc center point of the circular arc-shaped coulisse is positioned at a bearing center point for the lower roller, so that the radius of the circular arc-shaped coulisse corresponds to the axial spacing of the gear system. The unit for thrusting the opposed rollers toward each other and into engagement with the wire is formed as a support seat formed in each hemispherical part of the housing, the seats being parallel to the contact plane between such hemispherical parts.

  • Patent number: 4343420
Abstract: An apparatus for retrieving and storing an elongated flexible element such as an electrical cord, garden hose, air hose, vacuum hose, rope, or the like. The elongated flexible element has a first end for attachment to a service and a second end for attachment to an article to be coupled through the elongated member to the service. The apparatus includes first and second wheels and a framework for supporting the wheels. The supporting framework supports the wheels for rotation about their respective axes, the axes extending generally parallel to one another. The space between the wheel peripheries is selectively adjustable such that, when the wheels are in the use orientation, the wheel peripheries bear frictionally upon the surfaces of the flexible element to move the flexible element therebetween as the wheels are turned. One of the wheels is turned to retrieve the flexible element. A storage hopper is attached to the support framework for storing the retrieved flexible element.

  • Patent number: 4264026
Abstract: An apparatus for unwinding underground cables includes a framework chassis which is open ended and open bottomed and rests on the ground such as a trench bottom. Mounted on the chassis are horizontal support rollers which support the horizontal cable as it is propelled through the chassis by a peripherally grooved driven pulley applied against the upper side of the cable. The pulley is driven about a horizontal axis by an electric motor via a gearbox. The chassis carries vertical guide rollers on either side of the cable to constrain it to a given path. The guide rollers on one side are movable to permit release of the cable from that path when a support arm carrying the pulley, gearbox and motor is pivoted upwardly, by manual action on a pivotable handle, to lift the pulley off the cable.

  • Patent number: 4261499
Abstract: A planetary device for feeding electrode wiring in welding operations is provided with a housing through which the wire is fed, the central portion of the housing being shaped as a flange with a hub, and the front side thereof being provided with seats housing pistons bearing radially adjustable wire-feeding rollers. The piston heads are in constant contact with the shorter arms of bow-type double-armed levers hingedly affixed to the flange portion of the hub and located perpendicularly to the axis of the electrode wire fed through the housing. The longer arms of the levers contact the surfaces of a cam supported in the hub of the housing for rotation with respect thereto. A torque spring in the form of an Archimedes spiral, disposed between the flange of the housing and the cam, and having its respective inner and outer ends affixed to such members, constantly urges the cam with respect to the housing in such direction as to urge the rollers inwardly into engagement with the electrode wire.

Abstract: Tubular wire comprising a calcium-containing solidified core in a thin steel sheath is fed between successive sets of resiliently-engaging pinch and feed rollers having aligned V-shaped indented peripheries. A wide range of wire diameters from about 3 to 8 mm are accommodated between a feed roller having an indented relatively sharp obtuse angle of about 120.degree. and a pinch roller having an indented relatively shallow obtuse angle of about 150.degree.. The peripheral walls of the feed rollers have staggered serrations for gripping the wire and a grooved channel between them for removing debris. The pinch rollers of a pair of successive sets are positioned slightly outboard of the feed rollers to keep the wire straight. Simultaneous feeding of two or more wires is provided through a plurality of sets having a common axis of rotation for the feed rollers.

Abstract: An electrode-wire feeding device in which the calibrated pushing force exerted on the electrode wire by a pair of rollers is automatically adjusted. This automatic adjustment is effected by a guide cone having an internally threaded bore which is connected to a drive motor. A housing having a hollow cylindrical externally threaded portion is adapted to be threadably engaged with the guide cone with which it is axially aligned. The housing has a pair of parallel bores the axes of which lie in a plane which is perpendicular to the feed direction of the electrode wire which is fed through the guide cone and the housing. A pair of pistons are movably mounted in the pair of bores and support a pair of rollers which are adapted to contact the electrode wire and impart a pushing and guiding force thereto. The pistons are connected to each other by a coil spring. A pair of double-armed levers are pivotally mounted on the housing.

Abstract: A crab pot warp line coiler is disclosed utilizing the unique properties of "Crab Lay" type synthetic line. Drawn by the coiler from a pot hauler, the line passes initially around an input guide sheave and thereupon downwardly across a vertical span into the nip between opposing guide rollers underlying the guide sheave. These feed the line directly down into the central part of a receiving enclosure serving to confine the coils which inherently form in a sufficiently orderly manner in the process without other guide means being required. The feed rollers, one comprising a pneumatic tire that runs in a peripheral groove about the other, are yieldably spring actuated toward each other so as to grip the line for feed purposes with a pressure that, by reason of the overlying location of the input sheave assuming horizontally directed incoming line tension load, is kept substantially independent of line load tension.
