  • Publication number: 20110036885
Abstract: A portable linear fastener driving tool is provided that drive staples, nails, or other linearly driven fasteners. The tool uses a gas spring principle, in which a cylinder filled with compressed gas is used to quickly force a piston through a driving stroke movement, while a driver also drives a fastener into a workpiece. The piston/driver is then moved back to its starting position by use of a rotary-to-linear lifter, and the piston again compresses the gas above the piston, thereby preparing the tool for another driving stroke. The driver has protrusions along its edges that contact the lifter, which lifts the driver during a return stroke. A pivotable latch is controlled to move into either an interfering position or a non-interfering position with respect to the driver protrusions, and acts as a safety device, by preventing the driver from making a full driving stroke at an improper time.

Abstract: When gas is explosively burnt within a combustion chamber, a striking piston is impulsively driven to drive out a fastener from a nose portion. A gas tube is provided between the combustion chamber and a feed cylinder which accommodates a feed piston that reciprocally moves a feed claw engaged with and disengaged from connected fasteners to a nail feed direction for feeding to the nose portion side and an evacuation direction in opposite thereto. A check valve having a restriction hole is disposed on the way of the gas tube so as to be opened and closed. The check valve is normally urged by a spring to a closed direction and opens against the force of the spring by the gas pressure from the combustion chamber.

When the safety rod is kept in the non-triggering position and not stopped against the workpiece, the baffle plate stops the trigger from operation. When the safety rod is stopped against the workpiece and lifted to the triggering position, the baffle plate is biased, allowing the trigger to be pressed. When the trigger is pressed and stopped against the baffle plate, the trigger is hooked up with a hook of the baffle plate so that the baffle plate is prohibited from biasing upon stoppage of the safety rod against the workpiece, avoiding accidental triggering of the trigger.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of installing a hardwood floor employs a pneumatic or other impact fastener tool to drive staples, cleats, nails or other fasteners at a prescribed angle into and through the tongue of a solid or engineered hardwood flooring board having a standard profile and into a subfloor. The tool and method employs at least one inertia braking member, such as pads formed of rubber, foam, cork or other materials, that cushion the impact of a driving blade on the fastener and slow the final insertion of the fastener into the wood. Damage to the wood, such as splitting, shearing, pinching or puckering is prevented and overwood-underwood problems that are related to pinching and puckering do not arise. The inertia braking members are positioned inside a cylinder in which the driving piston and blade move and are easily replaceable when worn.
