Continuously Feeding Sheet Material Patents (Class 228/173.7)
  • Patent number: 11834856
Abstract: A method for creating a tapered spiral welded conical structure where the overall shape of the cone is first graphically slit axially and unwrapped, and then a series of construction arcs and lines are created to form the edge lines of a strip that can then be wrapped (rolled) to form a tapered conical structure. The edges of the spirally wound strip can be welded together, and a very large conical structure can thus be achieved. Various construction options are presented from a constant width strip to strip made from straight segments. Equations are given for the formation of the strips to enable those skilled in the art of spiral welded tubing to practice the invention.

  • Patent number: 8844795
Abstract: In some examples, an electrode plate K is conveyed to a gap 230 of a pair of stacking drums 210 and 220 with a conveying section 100. In synchronization with conveyance of the electrode plate K, the drums 210 and 220 feed a pair of separators S each formed into a predetermined shape with the separators S adhering to corresponding peripheral surfaces of the pair of drums 210 and 220. While feeding the electrode plate K forward in a generally horizontal manner, the separators S are sequentially stacked on both surfaces of the electrode plate K in synchronized with rotations of the drums 210 and 220, and both edge portions of the separators S are welded.

  • Patent number: 7157672
Abstract: A welded low carbon dual phase (ferrite plus martensite) and/or low carbon martensitic stainless steel PIPE having requisite yield strength and corrosion and/or erosion resistance is shown. Pipe can be manufactured up to a maximum outside diameter from finished plate or coil by utilizing a high speed-forming mill rather than using the traditional costly seamless pierced billet methods, or utilizing U-O-E or break press. An ERW technique is also used rather than utilizing the traditional laser, tungsten inert gas, gas metal arc, plasma arc, submerged arc or double submerged arc welding methods; or the parameters and procedures for ERW traditionally used to weld carbon steel pipe. Welded pipe dimensions and mechanical properties can be achieved which comply with the heat treatment process and the continuous roll forming mill's capability to produce the yield strengths and dimensional tolerances required to meet the service criteria of the pipe's intended application.

  • Patent number: 6808103
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for making a double-ply metal tube such as those used for automobile brake tubes by producing the tube continuously in a single process. The present invention is characterized by using a high-temperature reducing molten salt with high heat capacity as the heating medium, whereby the welding speed can be increased and the balance with the tube-making speed can be kept.

  • Publication number: 20040194275
Abstract: A method of producing a metal profile is provided in which a first sheet metal strip is deformed into a first profile by a plurality driven or free-running roller forming tools and, directly after the deformation process, passes through a welding station, in which a second sheet metal strip or a second profile is welded longitudinally with the first profile by means of a laser beam to form a composite profile. The second sheet metal strip, or the second profile, is hereby laid flat on the first profile, and welded on both sides along the lateral edges of the resulting contact surface. The composite profile can be produced from sheet metal strips and/or profiles with respectively different material properties. The second sheet metal strip or the second profile can be provided before welding with stampings and/or bent-up portions. A device for performing this method is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20030010811
Abstract: The present invention is a hollow-pipe forming apparatus and its products, which mainly comprises a driving mechanism, a fuse-welding mechanism and a feeding mechanism etc. The driving mechanism connects with a cylindrical internal mold at an output end of a driver, with the outside diameter of the internal mold being equal to the inside diameter of the pipe to be produced. The fuse-welding mechanism is a general fuse-welding machine, which has a welding gun. The feeding mechanism supports a metal strip thereon, and the metal strip is caused to pass through a leveling and fixing rack and overlap onto the internal mold of the driving mechanism after being unrolled, so that the leveling and fixing rack can exert a stretching and leveling effect on the metal strip. When the metal strip is overlapped onto the internal mold, it will form an angle between it and the internal mold. Therefore, the metal strip on the feeding mechanism can overlap onto the internal mold of the driving mechanism in an appropriate angle.

Abstract: This apparatus manufactures a welded tube by curling a metal strip T into a tube shape, heating the two edges thereof using an induction heating coil 6, and pressure welding the two edges using squeeze rolls 8. A ferrite core 21 for increasing heating efficiency that has a substantially circular arc shaped cross section is provided at a position on the top surface portion 25 of an impeder body 24 directly below the induction heating coil 6. A protective layer 29 formed from fluororesin is provided on the top surface of the impeder body and this protective layer catches spatter “c” generated during welding. The distal end of a cooling water supply tube 27 is embedded in a concave groove 26 in the impeder body 24 and the ferrite core 21 is cooled via a through passage 21a formed between the ferrite core 21 and a flat surface portion.
