Patent number: 6032853Abstract: The container made of cardboard or similar material intended to the packaging of objects is formed from a blank which is comprised at least one flat rough form and which presents, when in flat condition, different components: a polygonal planar base intended to receive the objects to be packaged and walls adjacent to the base and intended to be straightened up with respect to said base in order to set the container in volume, a so-called "closure " panel being optionnally provided in order to close the container once the objects to be packaged have been placed on the base.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1998Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Inventor: Pierre Andre Marc Chevalier

Patent number: 6016952Abstract: The present invention provides for an improved telescoping container, which is set up and collapsed flat quickly and easily, and is provided to the user in one integral piece, eliminating the necessity of a lid being assembled or maintained separately. An integral lid provides an improved amount of cushioning and strength, and does not enter the cubic volume of the container and thus reduce available storage space. In one embodiment of the invention the container gains strength from a double glued seam, having opposing edges sealed to one another with two tabs; alternatively one of the two tabs is sealed. The container sets up by having an inner portion telescope into an outer portion, and may be collapsed flat by pulling the inner portion back out of the outer portion. In one embodiment the ease of set up is further improved by forming the lid from a continuous sheet of material, so that the lid may be closed in one motion, rather than the sequence of steps required with other lids.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1998Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: Motion Design, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey A. Patent number: 5927593Abstract: A foldable container folded into its final configuration from a single flat blank of material having side walls and end walls hingedly connected together along their side edges, two similarly sized larger bottom panels hingedly connected to the side walls and two similarly sized smaller bottom panels hingedly connected to end walls. Each larger bottom panel is hingedly attached to one adjacent smaller bottom panel, such that when the side walls are erected from their collapsed state, the bottom panels fold down from their respective side and end walls to provide a continuous floor on the bottom of the container, the larger bottom panels having relief flaps which deflect about hinges as they strike each other upon descending to their open position. The blank is optionally provided with additional panels which are hingedly attached and may be folded so as to form inner side and end walls to produce a double walled container increasing the container strength. An integrated cover is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1998Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Assignee: Island Container CorporationInventors: Gary Berkowitz, Christopher Broszeit

Patent number: 5911359Abstract: A one-piece, flip-top reclosable container embodying the present invention includes an outer carton having opposing top and bottom walls, front and back walls, and first and second side walls. The first and second side walls and the front wall include a preferential area of weakness for opening the carton from a sealed form to an unsealed form. The preferential area of weakness forms a lid hingedly connected to the top wall. The top wall includes a front top minor flap hingedly connected to an upper end of the front wall. An internal collar is integrally formed with the front top minor flap. The internal collar is disposed within the carton when the carton is in the sealed form. The internal collar includes a front panel and opposing first and second side panels adjacent to the respective front wall and the opposing first and second side walls of the carton. The front panel of the internal collar is detachably connected to the front top minor flap along at least one horizontal fold line.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1997Date of Patent: June 15, 1999Assignee: Tenneco Packaging Inc.Inventors: James L. Patent number: 5908152Abstract: A multi-compartment box comprising a compartment portion including two compartments with a divider therebetween, and a lid connected to the compartment portion by a hinge. The divider between the two compartments is arranged substantially normal to the hinge which connects the lid to the compartment portion of the box. The box is formed from a unitary blank of semi-rigid material.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1997Date of Patent: June 1, 1999Assignee: Burrows Paper CorporationInventor: Stephen D. Tullis

Patent number: 5887745Abstract: A slide-latch for use on a container having a storage tray and a closing lid. The latch comprises a generally J-shaped body terminating in a hook portion, and having an elongate ovoid slot running therethrough. The latch is mounted to said lid on an elongate rod located within the slot. The rod in turn is mounted to said lid. The latch is slidably operable between a closed position wherein the hook portion secures the lid to the storage tray, and an open position wherein the lid is separable from the storage tray. A cam surface between the underside of the latch and the top surface of the lid locks the latch in a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1997Date of Patent: March 30, 1999Assignee: Poly Vac, Inc.Inventor: Timothy E. Patent number: 5875963Abstract: A flip-top reclosable carton is comprised of an outer carton and an internal collar. The outer carton includes opposing top and bottom walls, opposing front and back walls, and opposing first and second side walls. The first and second side walls and the front wall include a continuous horizontal tear means for opening up the carton from a sealed form to form a lid hingedly connected to a base. The top wall includes first and second top minor flaps hingedly connected to upper ends of the respective first and second side walls. The internal collar is integrally formed with the first and second top minor flaps. The collar is disposed within the carton and includes a front panel and opposing first and second side panels adjacent to the respective front wall and the opposing first and second side walls of the carton.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1997Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: Tenneco PackagingInventors: James L. Patent number: 5743462Abstract: A nested blank arrangement comprises first and second unitary, continuous blanks each for forming a side-filled, flip-top reclosable carton having opposing top and bottom walls, opposing front and back walls, and opposing first and second side walls. Each blank includes at least five panels hingedly connected to each other along generally horizontal fold lines. Each panel includes opposing first and second vertical edges. In order of connection, the panels include an inner front panel, a bottom panel, a back panel, a top panel, and an outer front panel. First and second side closure flaps are hingedly connected to each of the panels along the respective first and second vertical edges. The first and second side closure flaps cooperate to form the opposing first and second side walls of the carton. The first and second blanks are vertically oriented in opposite directions and are horizontally adjacent to each other.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1995Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Tenneco PackagingInventor: James L.
