    Abstract: Secure inlays for secure documents such as a passport comprising an inlay substrate may have laser ablated recesses within which a chip module is installed. Channels for an antenna wire may be formed in a surface of the substrate. Instead of using wire, the channels may be filled with a flowable, conductive material. Patches homogenous with the substrate layer may be used to protect and seal the chip and interconnection area. The inlay substrate may include two layers, and the antenna wire may be between the two layers. A moisture-curing polyurethane hot melt adhesive may be used to laminate a cover layer and the additional inlay substrate layers. The adhesive layer may include metal nanoscale powder and ink for electro-magnetic shielding. Additional security elements may include material that is optically changeable by an electro-magnetic field. Ferrite-containing layers may be incorporated in the inlay substrate.

In one aspect, a method for converting a barcode media into a magnetic stripe media is provided. The method includes reading data encoded on a barcode media. The data includes information indicative of a transit purchase and an identifier of the barcode media. The barcode media is authenticated by checking the identifier against a list of issued barcodes and determining that the barcode media is unused by checking the identifier against a list of used barcode media. The method includes converting the data from the barcode media into magnetic data storable on a magnetic media and writing the magnetic data onto the magnetic media. The method includes distributing the magnetic media containing the magnetic data and communicating information related to a conversion transaction. The information includes an indication of the distribution of the magnetic media.

Light property data for the RFID device can be collected by a sensor, and the light property data can be compared to light property information for one or several substances. If the light property data matches the light property information, then a substance can be identified as present on the surface of the object.

The access system includes a portable keycard, which is held by a user. The keycard has embedded magnets arranged in a unique predetermined pattern. The electronic device has a housing that provides a slot and a channel for receiving the keycard by the user. A sensing circuit and a processing circuit are both provided. The sensing circuit includes Hall-effect transducers positioned next to the channel so that upon inserted of the keycard, certain ones of these Hall-effect transducers will reside adjacent a magnet, depending on the particular unique pattern. A magnet positioned adjacent a Hall-effect transducer will cause the transducer to send an output signal to the processor indicating the presence of a magnet at the location of the Hall-effect transducer.

A card-based financial transaction can be authorized in accordance with the use of a dynamic CVV by receiving a transaction authorization request for a specific credit/debit card, wherein the transaction authorization request includes a dynamic CVV. The dynamic CVV can be compared to at least a portion of a one-time password generated for the specific credit/debit card, and a transaction authorization can be sent to the merchant or vendor when the dynamic CVV matches all or a portion of the one-time password.
