Rails Patents (Class 238/122)
  • Patent number: 4640459
Abstract: This invention concerns dual rail transportation system (1) used with roller pallets on which the wheels (2) of at least one pair of wheels are swiveling. On the margins of the running surface (5) of one rail (4) have been provided relatively low steering flanges (6) with a spacing (a) nearly the same as the breath (b) of the wheel traveling thereon. The other rail has a flat running surface sufficiently wider than the surface (5) of the one rail (4) to permit swiveling of the wheel traveling thereon. The roller pallet will hereby be steered with high accuracy on the rails.

  • Patent number: 4518660
Abstract: The primary blank 1, which is to be transformed into a finished rail by means of universal passes, edging passes and a finishing pass, is characterized by a symmetric `.UPSILON.` section the thickness of which always varies in the same way. It is designed to be shaped exclusively in open grooves. This primary blank 1 is roughed in a specific manner in a universal stand and undergoes a strong forging which improves the quality of the finished rail. A secondary blank is then formed which has a special shape allowing the production by universal rolling of a very accurate profile of the finished rail.

  • Patent number: 4502628
Abstract: A cart track assembly for use with a cart having steerable castor wheels includes a pair of parallel, spaced apart tracks mounted to a support surface. Each track includes a number of elongate main track segments and widened transition track segments coupling the main track segments. The main segments have parallel, upright sides defining a relatively narrow pathway between the sides. The widened segments preferably include sides which flare outwardly to define a widened transition area. The transition area is large enough to allow the castor wheels to pivot 180.degree. about their vertical pivot axis after the cart has reversed direction. This allows the castor wheels to roll smoothly along the track after the direction of the movement of the cart has been reversed.

  • Patent number: 4345524
Abstract: A structure for a load carrying vehicle and the track therefor. The load carrying vehicle includes a load carrying platform and a pair of side plates, one plate located adjacent to each of the platform sides. The side plates are structurally weakened, that is, the rigidity of the side plates is controlled by, for example, fabricating them to include grooves, apertures, etc., so that the vehicle may deflect longitudinally. This is done so that all the wheels of the vehicle will be in contact with the track, and thereby serve to support at least part of the load being carried, thus improving the weight distribution of the vehicle load on the wheels and on the track. The track provided for supporting the load carrying vehicle, which track may be fabricated by roll forming a sheet of steel, includes four sections, two of which sections join the other two at an obtuse angle thereby providing a pivot point or flexure.

  • Patent number: 4233906
Abstract: A linear induction motor, particularly for a vehicle traveling along an extended track, has an armature or reaction rail mounted on the track and a stator carried by the vehicle and juxtaposed with the rail. The rail is of a highly conductive material and is provided in lengths or sections which overlap by approximately a pole length of the stator. The overlapping ends form an induction gap for energy transfer between the rail sections.

  • Patent number: 4203546
Abstract: An oscillation dampening system composed of masses, in which a spring and dampeners are clamped together and coupled to a railroad track to prevent the formation of ripples on the track. The system is tuned to the characteristic frequency of the railroad track and is coupled thereto to reduce the maximum amplitude of oscillation at the characteristic frequency and to shift the occurrence of other amplitudes of oscillation to frequencies away from the characteristic frequency and to reduce the amplitudes of oscillation at the shifted frequency. The maximum of the shifted amplitudes of oscillation is reduced by ten percent from the maximum at the characteristic frequency.

  • Patent number: 4139154
Abstract: The present invention relates to a rail intended to constitute a tread for heavy duty rolling stock, such as gantry cranes, mounted on wheels or rollers and concerns more specifically a guide rail on which both center-flange wheels or rollers, and lateral-flange wheels, as used on railway lines roll, comprising, in section, two integrally formed spaced heads running parallel to each other, the two heads having vertical inner side walls and being separated by a horizontal intermediate channel whose bottom constitutes a horizontal connecting strip.

  • Patent number: 4130244
Abstract: A track rail support includes ties positioned at spaced intervals along a base and supporting track rails. An elongated intermediate carrier is positioned between the ties and each track rail. Secondary track rail supports in the form of block-shaped elements are positioned in contact with the intermediate carrier. Each block-shaped element is positioned above a position midway between two adjacent ties.
