Abstract: A variable arc sprinkler nozzle is provided for distribution of water through nearly any adjustable arcuate span. The nozzle includes one or more arcuate slots formed by the helical engagement of spiral surfaces of a deflector and a nozzle body. A user may rotate a portion of the nozzle body to select the arcuate span of the one or more slots. A matched precipitation rate feature is adjustable to proportion the amount of water directed to the deflector depending on the extent of the arcuate span. Further, edge fins on the deflector and nozzle body channel water flow at the two edges of the distribution arc to increase the throw radius and to provide fairly uniform water distribution at the edges of the arc.

  • Patent number: 7621463
Abstract: A fluid nozzle system (nicknamed the โ€œRAP nozzle systemโ€) is disclosed that combines a pulse flow device with a toroidal vortex generator to create a high momentum, self propelling jet for increasing long-range jet impact forces. In a preferred embodiment, the RAP nozzle system comprises a fluid switch, without any moving mechanical part, which takes continuous flow normally exited through a nozzle and breaks it into discrete patterns of pulsed flow. The unsteady characteristics of the pulsed flow are then used with either single-stage ejectors, multi-stage ejectors or other devices to increase the momentum and/or the lateral size of the individual pulses. These fluid pulses are then used to generate a jet with large scale, stable toroidal vortices which travel long distances, downstream of the ejector(s), and apply large forces at impact.

  • Patent number: 7494073
Abstract: A fluid discharge apparatus adapted to discharge a cavitating stream of pressurized liquid along with the selective discharge of a secondary material, such as an abrasive, for removing dirt, debris, barnacles, marine growth, and other substances from submerged surfaces is provided. More particularly, the invention contemplates a introducing a pressurized liquid into a cavitation generating chamber to create and discharge a cavitating stream, and a secondary inlet for injecting abrasive material, such as silica, into the chamber to improve cleaning effectiveness. The gas bubbles within the cavitating liquid stream that essentially explode upon impacting debris resulting in tremendous pressure fluxuations provides improved effectiveness in removing debris and aquatic growth from the submerged surface. The combination of a secondary substance, such as an abrasive material, foam, or compressed gas enhances cleaning effectiveness.
