And Flow Regulation Or Control Of Outlets Patents (Class 239/562)
  • Patent number: 5882141
Abstract: An irrigation conduit (10) includes a plurality of emitters (11) spaced apart along its length. A conveyance channel (12) is connected to each emitter (11) and is long enough so that a distal end (14) of the conveyance channel (12) may be positioned at or just above the soil surface with the conduit (10) buried below the soil surface. Each emitter (11) or each conveyance channel (12) includes associated with it a flow control arrangement (30) to control the rate of flow through the conveyance channel (12) when water is applied to the conduit (10) at a desired pressure and flow rate. The flow rate through each conveyance channel (12) exceeds the local hydraulic loading rate of the soil adjacent to the conveyance channel (12). The rate in excess of the local hydraulic loading rate causes localized flooding and allows the water to spread out substantially across the soil surface prior to moving downwardly into the soil.

Abstract: To supply a liquid uniformly to a dye applicator, the liquid must be divided in a specific way before the liquid reaches a strip of the applicator. This is accomplished with a hollow plate which has a large number of tube fittings on its outer circumference for the through flow of precisely constant amounts of liquid. These fittings, for treating different working widths of the applicator, must be provided at least partially with valves to close them. In order to keep the distributing plate small in diameter and simultaneously to be able to close one through flow channel or another, special channels are provided in the plate that are easy to close and can be controlled exactly with respect to liquid flow.

  • Patent number: 5354378
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for producing coatings, such as wax or hot melt adhesive, onto the tops and necks of wine bottles or similar objects. A slot nozzle die has elongated air slots along a vertically oriented slot extrusion opening. A hot melt or wax gun is disposed above the bottle neck to apply a bead of adhesive to the bottle top. In the operation of the apparatus, the air flow is initiated from both air slots prior to the initiation of the hot melt flow and is continued beyond that point in time, when the hot melt flow ceases. The air carries a film of coating material horizontally to the bottle neck. Means are provided for spinning the bottle about its vertical axis. The delays between the operations of the air flow and the coating flow are on the order of micro seconds. The merged coatings are heated to smooth the coating finish to produce a traditional neck seal.

  • Patent number: 5350118
Abstract: A glass cullet separator utilizes a multi-element optical sensor to detect when an opaque particle in a group primarily composed of transparent particles moving along a plane passes a first line lying in that plane, and the particular location of the particle along the first line. A signal from the optical sensor is fed to a microprocessor. After a delay equal to the time it takes for a particle to pass between the first line and a second line, which is parallel to and separated from the first line, the microprocessor causes a valve to open and emit a jet of high velocity air from a nozzle aimed toward the plane along the second line. The jet of air blows the opaque particle out of the plane where it is captured and separated from the remainder of the particles. A plurality of nozzles are located in a manifold which extends across the extent of the second line. The manifold also supports the valves and fluid conduits that interconnect the valves and the nozzles.

  • Patent number: 5340030
Abstract: A device for selectively dispensing granular material such as fire ant poison, herbicides, fertilizer and the like at the behest of a user, this device comprising inner and outer elongate tubular members disposed in a closely fitted relationship but being relatively rotatable for a selected number of degrees. The inner member serves as a repository for a granular material to be dispensed, and a plurality of holes are disposed in a spaced, aligned relationship in each of these members. These elongate members normally reside in a rotational relationship in which the holes in the members are non-aligned, and a dispensing lever is attached to one of the members for selectively bringing about relative rotation of that one member with respect to the other member, such that the holes in these members will be brought into alignment for the dispensing of the granular material under the influence of gravity.

  • Patent number: 5339965
Abstract: A sorter for sorting transversely-spaced articles moving along a direction of travel employs an array of fluid nozzles aligned transversely to the direction of travel for separating some of the articles from others, according to differences in their physical characteristics, by selectively directing respective streams of fluid toward some of the articles to deflect them from the direction of travel. The nozzles are arranged in a substantially linear transverse alignment relative to the direction of travel, each nozzle being connected to a respective selectively operable fluid supply valve. The valves are arranged in a nonlinear array in a common plane extending generally in the direction of alignment of the nozzles, and are connected to the respective nozzles by flexible tubes of equal length which interface the nonlinear array of valves with the linear transverse array of nozzles. The tubes are embedded in a hardened polymeric material which also forms the nozzles.

  • Patent number: 5312047
Abstract: A spraying device for dousing the blade chamber of a rotary lawn mower to effect cleaning thereof. An annular, D-shaped conduit is secured to the ground by a centrally disposed stake. The stake orients the flat portion of the D-shaped conduit against the ground, providing a low profile in order for the mower to be positioned over the spraying device. The annular conduit has a plurality of orifices disposed on the top surface defining first and second annular formations. The first annular formation upwardly directs a controlled spray pattern perpendicular to the ground, while the second annular formation upwardly and outwardly directs a controlled spray pattern preferably 45.degree. from the perpendicular. A valved extension conduit in communication with the annular conduit is releasably coupled to a water source such as a garden hose connected to a water faucet for supplying the spraying device with pressurized water.
