Patent number: 4204557Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid flow control valve of the type in which flow through the valve is controlled by movement of a chamber wall caused by fluid flowing into the chamber through a restricted inlet and a cleaning element is provided to clean the inlet. In this invention, the cleaning element is longer than the restricted inlet and is movable between a first position in which it does not extend through the restricted inlet and a second position in which it extends completely through the restricted inlet. The cleaning element is a rod-like element of self-supporting flexible synthetic plastics material and has a limited inherent rigidity enabling it to force dirt and scale from the restricted inlet.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1978Date of Patent: May 27, 1980Inventor: Edgar P. Patent number: 4150793Abstract: Gutter cleaning apparatus is disclosed comprising a housing having a first and second opening therein for delivering fluid under pressure into a rain gutter mounted on a building. The openings are diametrically opposed and the flow of fluid through the openings is controlled by a valve that alternately opens one opening and closes the other. The valve is controlled by increasing and decreasing the fluid pressure in the housing. When fluid pressure is at a pre-determined lower level, the valve is in a neutral position between the two openings. A stream deflector plate extends from the bottom of the valve and depending on which direction the deflector plate is positioned, increasing the pressure in the housing will cause the valve to move into one of the openings. Once the valve is positioned in one of the openings the direction of the stream deflector plate is changed since it is mounted on the valve in a manner so as to engage the housing when the valve is closing one of the openings.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1978Date of Patent: April 24, 1979Inventor: Alberto Russo

Patent number: 4085895Abstract: A simple, two-part adjustable spray device is disclosed, the device consisting of a tubular member within which is a cylindrical insert member. At its inner end, the insert member includes a chamber in selective communication with both the inlet portion of the tubular member and a longitudinal channel formed in the internal wall of the outlet portion of the tubular member. The side wall of the insert member defining the chamber is sufficiently flexible to be distended by the pressure of liquid within the chamber into a sealing engagement with the interior side wall of the tubular member. By rotationally adjusting the insert member, the chamber may be brought into selective communication with the longitudinal channel to allow a varying volume of liquid to pass from the inlet to the outlet and a spray of liquid to be emitted through a profiled aperture.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1977Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Inventors: Byron V. Patent number: 4025051Abstract: A valve is disclosed which controls flow of fluid through its body from inlet to outlet, and which has a co-operating valve seat and valve closure member. The closure member is actuated by an operating element which comprises an integral stem and diaphragm, the stem projecting from both faces of the diaphragm. One stem part is connected to the closure member and the other part is free and acts as the actuating member. The diaphragm is secured in and seals the aperture through which the stem projects from the valve body. Heat-sealing of the periphery of the diaphragm to the bounding wall of the aperture is disclosed, and the stem can be stiffened by a metal rod embedded therein. The diaphragm is distorted and acts as a pivot for the stem when the free part of the stem is displaced. Patent number: 4022380Abstract: Flushing valves of the type having a control chamber with a movable wall are disclosed, the chamber being partially emptied to cause the main valve surface and seat to separate and open the valve, and being slowly refilled to close the valve. A cleaning needle is provided which moves in the restricted inlet to the chamber to remove dirt and scale therefrom. In one form, the valve actuating element sequentially lifts a valve closure element, to which the needle is secured, from a seat to open said outlet and thereafter acts on the movable wall part to cause a reduction in the volume of said chamber and force some of its contents through the open outlet. In a further form, the actuating element pressurizes the chamber by forcing the movable wall in the direction which reduces the volume thereof. The increased pressure forces a flexible wall part of the chamber from a sealing surface to allow liquid to flow from the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1974Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventor: Edgar Peter Scragg
