  • Patent number: 11136614
Abstract: Methods for seeding live cells onto spatially defined regions of a substrate including multiple features (e.g., microwells or other microenvironments) utilize a stencil embodied in a hole-defining sacrificial film. A sacrificial film devoid of holes may be applied over features of a substrate, and a hole generating mechanism (e.g., hot needle or laser) aligned with features may be used to define holes in the film. Alternatively, holes may be predefined in a sacrificial film to form a stencil, and the stencil may be assembled to the substrate with the holes registered with features thereof. Thereafter, cells are seeded through holes in the film. Seeded cells are subject to incubation, further processing, and/or performance of one or more assays, and the hole-defining sacrificial film (stencil) may be removed.

  • Patent number: 10687411
Abstract: A nozzle for a plasma arc torch has a longitudinal nozzle axis, a nozzle orifice with a generally cylindrical orifice sidewall centered on the nozzle axis, and an orifice inlet that is formed as a surface of rotation about the nozzle axis; a gas-directing surface may also be provided. The orifice inlet has a variably-curved surface generated by rotating a variably-curved element about the nozzle axis, where the variably-curved element can be a portion of an ellipse, parabola, or hyperbola, and can join to the orifice sidewall and to the gas-directing surface, if provided. Both the orifice sidewall and the gas directing surface can each join the variably-curved element in a substantially tangential manner. Using an elliptical contour for the orifice inlet was found to increase stability for the plasma arc, providing improved cut quality and faster cutting speed for the torch.

Abstract: A nozzle block for a sootblower of the type for cleaning internal heat transfer surfaces of large scale coal fired combustion systems. For cleaning the internal surfaces, a cleaning medium is often used in the form of steam. Due to the cyclical operations and the process of condensation, condensate slugs of water can form in the sootblower fluid flow components. If these slugs are ejected against clean surfaces, undesirable erosion can occur. Several embodiments of nozzle blocks are described each having one or more ejection ports at their distal ends configured to maximize the ejection of condensates while minimizing their cross-sectional area which would diminish nozzle fluidic efficiency. Additional features enhance the ability of the nozzle block to separate and disperse condensate from the slots.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally provide chamber components with enhanced thermal properties and methods of enhancing thermal properties of chamber components including bonding materials. One embodiment of the present disclosure provides a method for fabricating a composite structure. The method includes applying a bonding material to a first component, and converting the bonding material applied to the first component to an enhanced bonding layer by heating the bonding material to outgas volatile species from the bonding material. The outgassed volatile species accumulates to at least 0.05% in mass of the bonding material. The method further includes contacting a second component and the enhanced bonding layer to join the first and second components.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method of constructing a stationary wear-resistant stationary nozzle 200 and/or nozzle liner 230 for solid fueled furnaces. A transition section 210 is constructed from several flat pieces 211-218 several that may have identical starting shapes. This reduces manufacturing complexity and costs. All pieces 211-218 have a high-wear weld overlay on their inner surface 316, 416. Corner pieces 215-218 are folded into a corner shape at an outlet edge 412 and rolled into a curved shape at an inlet edge 411. Horizontal 211, 212 and vertical pieces 213, 214 are only rolled at an inlet edge 311. The pieces have seam tab 240 along longitudinal edges that are welded together to construct a transition section 210. The transition section 210 may be used as a liner to reduce wear in an existing stationary nozzle or may be constructed to be connected to an inlet piece 220 to form a strong, wear-resistant coal nozzle 200.
