Abstract: A fastener system which can be utilized with leather type fabric, such as shoes for attaching decorative pieces which consists of a flat disk shaped member which has a protruding component which interlocks with another flat disk shaped component which has a receiving component. The tolerances allow the two disk shape components to be affixed together such that they hold an ornamental piece in a certain position. The two disks sit parallel with each other or can be dimensioned to allow one to sit into the other such that on one side the two pieces create a relatively flat surface in relationship to the surface of the fabric. These configurations permit the ornament to be attached to the clothing without the feel of a lump or projection to the person wearing the article. This result is highly desirable, for example, at the instep of shoes where ornaments are often attached and the body is sensitive to any lump or projection.

Abstract: In a capped rivet comprising a cap having an exposed upper surface and a lower surface, and a rivet having a rivet shaft extending in a direction away from the lower surface of the cap, a rivet flange extending in a horizontal direction away from an axis of the rivet shaft for fixedly attaching the rivet to the cap, and a pair of support portions disposed between the rivet shaft and the cap, extending substantially parallel to the lower surface of the cap, and formed by making a pair of apertures in the rivet flange and bending two portions of the rivet flange along bending lines respectively extending between the apertures and the rivet shaft, one support portion covers the other support portion by bending in such a manner that a surface of the one support portion that faces away from a lower surface of the cap at least partly contacts a surface of the other support portion that faces toward the lower surface of the cap.

Abstract: A button (10) consists of a base (12) for securing to a garment or the like, and a removable cover (14). The cover defines a pair of resilient arms (22, 24) adapted for releasable engagement with a mounting profile (16) on the rear of the base (12). In a preferred embodiment, the mounting profile (16) and arms (22, 24 are provided with recesses (18) and corresponding projections (26) for secure mounting, and projections (28) enabling the arms to be bent outward in order to release the cover.

Abstract: A crank assembly for a fishing reel. The crank assembly has a first element that is capable of being driven in rotation to effect operation of a fishing reel, a crank handle for imparting a rotational drive force to the first element, a securing element that is repositionable relative to the crank handle and first element between a first position and a second position, and a retainer element that is capable of being press fit into and maintained in an operative position relative to the crank handle and first element wherein the retainer element prevents the securing element from moving from the second position into the first position. The crank handle is mountable to and separable from the first element with the securing element in the first position. The securing element maintains the crank handle mounted to the first element with the securing element in the second position.

Abstract: An elastomer coating for buttons, snaps, caps, and other metal fasteners, is provided by applying a bonding agent or primer coat to the fasteners, and then applying the elastomer material in solid sheet form to the tops or heads of the primer coated fasteners. The assembly is cured using heat and pressure, to bond the elastomer material permanently across the entire upper surface of the fasteners. The elastomer is preferably a synthetic silicone rubber material, which provides a soft to the touch feel. The permanently bonded coating also protects the underlying metal fastener material from corrosion, thus providing good durability and longevity for the fastener. The elastomer material may be clear, thus enabling any underlying pattern or design formed in the top of the fastener to be seen, but may be tinted or dyed if desired. Multiple layers of the elastomer material may be bonded to the top of the fastener, if desired, with each layer having a different translucent tint as desired.

Abstract: A button attaching fastener consisting of a button cap and an attachment plug. The button cap has centrally in its rear surface a socket, and the attachment plug has on one end a flange fitted in the socket with a clench portion provided along an outer periphery of the socket clenched over the flange through its substantially entire surface. The clench portion has on its outer surface a plurality of rotation-preventing projections extending radially outwardly from the base of the flange. The rotation-preventing projections serve to prevent the fastener from rotating on a piece of fabric, as of clothing, and also to increase the pulling strength of the attachment plug.

Abstract: A new button protector for protecting a button on an article of clothing from breakage and other damage, especially when washing the article of clothing. The inventive device includes a housing having an interior space adapted for receiving a button on a garment therein. The housing comprises a pair of separable sections pivotally coupled together to provide an opening into the interior space of the housing. The panels of the housing each have a slot extending therethrough for extending the threading holding a button to a garment.

Abstract: In the installation and removal of a fastener cap for covering a fastener which makes a front cover constructed as a first cover and a back cover constructed as a second cover fixed to each other by a fastener such as screw, which would appear on the exterior of products, the fastener cap is easily disassembled from the covers without marring the exterior of products, while maintaining an attractive appearance thereof. A back cover 20 which is coupled to a front cover 10 by means of a screw fastener 40, includes a fastener well 21 having a front assembly groove 23 and a back assembly groove 25 into which a front assembly projection 31 and a back assembly projection 32 on fastener cap 30 are respectively inserted during assembly.

Abstract: A push-button closure part including a contoured button, a metallic rivet part having a rivet shank projecting from the underside of the button and an approximately radially extending, round rivet flange. The closure part includes a push button eyelet for slipping onto the rivet shank through a central opening. The rivet shank is deformed in a shallow S-shape which causes flexible material clasped between the rivet flange and the eyelet to be pressed between the edge of the central opening of the eyelet and rivet flange and also between the surrounding outer edge of the eyelet and the rivet flange.

Abstract: A clothing accessory includes a molded plastic plate and a molded plastic ring. The periphery of the plate is provided with a first engagement surface and the interior of the ring is provided with a second engagement surface. The relative dimensions of the plate and the ring are chosen such that the fabric of an article of clothing can be engaged between the first and second engagement surfaces. More specifically, when the ring is placed on one side of a fabric and the plate is placed on the other side of a fabric, the plate and ring may be pressed together so that the plate is frictionally engaged inside the ring by the fabric of the clothing. According to a presently preferred embodiment, the engagement surfaces are V-shaped. I.e. one of the surfaces is a concave V-shaped groove and the other is a convex V-shaped edge.

Abstract: A cap crown button comprises a female retaining body, a decorating cloth, a fastening element, and a male retaining body. The female retaining body has an arcuate top, a periphery and a receiving space provided centrally with a projection having an axial hole which is provided therein with a shoulder. The projection has a belly portion. The female retaining body is covered with the decorating cloth. The fastening element is located in the receiving space such that the fastening element fastens the decorating cloth which extends into the receiving space. The male retaining body comprises a disklike bottom and a nail having thereon a tapered head capable of piercing the cap crown to engage the axial hole of the projection of the female retaining body. The female retaining body has a mating sustaining portion for supporting the head.

Abstract: A plastic device for detachably covering and concealing a button employs a first horizontal plate having at least one opening therein. A second horizontal plate spaced from the first plate is secured to one end of a hollow cylinder having opposite open ends and closes same. A living hinge integrally secures a portion of the periphery of the other open end of the cylinder to a peripheral portion of the first plate. The device has an open position at which the other end of the cylinder is out of engagement with the first plate and has a closed position at which said other end of the cylinder is in mating engagement with the first plate. The cylinder and the first plate are provided with detachable locking engagement means which are spaced apart when the device is in the open position and which are disposed in locking engagement when the device is in closed position.

Abstract: This invention provides a simply constructed sealed button (1) having an elastic spring (2) defining a pair of end portions (4) with respective hook members (6, 7) formed on the opposing end portions (4). A main body housing (5) defining an internal chamber includes a T-shaped conduit mounted within the housing chamber for insert of the hook members (6, 7). The hook members (6, 7) are hooked to each other at an intersecting portion of intersecting through passages of the T-shaped closed conduit. A transparent cover (8) is mounted to the sidewall of the main body housing (5) to provide a sealed button.

Abstract: Button and slit arrangements for adjusting the size of a cloth article or the like, particularly characterized in that the joined size of the article is made variable by using one or more dismountable/remountable buttons so as to achieve the size corresponding to its use. A plurality of aligned slits are formed on at least one of the joining portions of the article and a dismountable/remountable button is attached through a slit in one portion and through a selected one of the slits in the other portion to make variable the joined size of the joining portions, thereby desirably determining the size of a garment, a tent, a construction sheet, a cover for cars, etc., which is regarded as an article.

Abstract: Ornamental assemblies for buttons and athletic shoes are formed by snap-type action securing elements formed respectively on bases and ornamental caps so that a number of different caps can be removably attached to a single base to make a number of different assemblies. The assembly has a hollow cap element having top and side walls. The side walls have inner and outer surfaces which co-terminate at an edge lip. In one embodiment, a fabric covered base is attached to the cap by means for snapping the base and the cap together. In another embodiment, the base is in the form of a projection molded to and extending from an athletic shoe.

The female retaining body has an arcuate top, a periphery and a receiving space provided centrally with a projection having an axial hole which is provided therein with a shoulder. The fastening element is located in the receiving space such that the fastening element fastens the decorating cloth which extends into the receiving space. Abstract: A cap crown button comprises a female retaining body, a male retaining body and a covering body. The female retaining body is provided with a retaining hole having at the upper end thereof a receiving space in which a connection portion, a receiving portion and a tapered portion are disposed. When the pin column of the male retaining body is inserted into the retaining hole of the female retaining body, the tapered head of the pin column of the male retaining body is rested against the tapered portion such that the bottom edge of the tapered head of the male retaining body is received in the receiving portion of the retaining hole. The retaining effect of the male retaining body and the female retaining body is therefore effectively enhanced without causing the tapered head of the male retaining body to pierce through the female retaining body.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in an ornament for buttons and in particular to one which includes a circular member formed with a U-shaped bracket having an upper edge and two lugs, a base plate provided two pin portions hingedly connected with the lugs of the circular member and a central resilient member between the two pin portions at an end, an intermediate portion concaving downwards, and two prongs extending upwardly from the intermediate portion and defining an elongated slot therebetween, and an ornamental member fixedly attached on said base plate, whereby the ornamental member can be conveniently and firmly engaged with the button.

Abstract: A protective device for covering a barb in a strand of barbed wire is disclosed. The barb has a plurality of outwardly extending points disposed around the strand with the strand extending axially outwardly from opposing sides of the barb.In a first embodiment, the protective covering device of the present invention has an upper shell formed in a substantial hemisphere and a lower shell formed in a substantial hemisphere. A color agent may be optionally added to the upper and lower shells in order to provide high visibility when attached over the barb. A living hinge connects the upper and lower shells in a pivoting relationship so that the upper shell can pivot towards to lower shell. Male and female locking elements are provided on the upper and lower shells for locking the two hemispheres together over the barb. When locked, the barb is located in a formed hollow interior of the two shells and is fully protected from causing damage to animals and the like.

Tooling is shown for quickly assembling the tooth cap and retainer to the fabric.

In one embodiment the rib is carried by a depending circumferential wall of the cap for co-action with a circumferential groove formed in the base, while in another embodiment the rib is carried by an upstanding circumferential wall of the base for co-action with a groove disposed peripherally about the cap. In other embodiments a disc-like intermediate cap is disposed between a base and a top cap. In another embodiment the intermediate member co-acts with the base and the top cap. In yet another embodiment the cap includes a pair of parallel ribs for co-action with an intermediate cap and the base member.

Abstract: Rib and groove snap-type action securing elements are formed respectively on buckle bases and caps so that a number of different buckle caps can be disposed for co-action with a single base to fabricate a number of different buckle assemblies. In one embodimenmt the rib is carried by a depending circumferential wall of the cap for co-action with a circumferential groove formed in the base, while in another embodiment the rib is carried by an upstanding circumferential wall of the base for co-action with a groove disposed peripherally about the cap. In other embodiments a disk-like intermediate cap is disposed between a base and a top cap formed with a surrounding depending wall with a bead along its lower edge for co-action with the lower edge of the base.

Abstract: A detachable ornamental button cover for shirt and blouse buttons, as well as other articles of clothing is constructed to include a number of safety features to prevent inadvertent loss during use. One safety feature designs the direction of opening and closing of the button cover to be transverse to the direction of insertion about the button during use. An additional safety feature includes a restricted elongated slot which frictionally engages the button fastening threads during initial application. The button cover may be constructed from a variety of precious metals and decorated with precious gems and the like.

Abstract: A multi-purpose pin which supports jewelry and clothing accessories to the clothing, hat or hair of a wearer. The multi-purpose pin comprises a hoop with fastening means for attaching to the clothing of a wearer. A bar divides the interior portion of the hoop into a plurality of areas, through which a clothing accessory passes to wrap around the bar, thereby securing the clothing accessory to the pin. The bar may include a horizontal and a vertical passage therethrough for supporting jewelry accessories. A plurality of bars may be provided to alter the manner in which the clothing accessory is secured to the pin. A pair of hoops may be provided to define a circumferential groove around the pin for wrapping the clothing accessory. The multi-purpose pin may be used with or without backing, or with a decorative top as an independent jewelry item.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for molding a plastic cap on a preformed metallic shank includes inserting the shank on a strip material by a shank insertion device such that a head of the shank is elevated above the strip material. A molding device, having an open mold cavity is engaged with the strip material such that the strip material acts as a portion of the mold. The elevated head is positioned within the cavity. Plastic is injected into the mold cavity to surround and encapsulate the button head.

Abstract: A button wherein the deformable shank of a rivet (which carries the enlarged portion that is to pass through a buttonhole) must be caused to penetrate through a layer of textile or other carrier material and to thereupon enter a retaining device having a portion which deforms the free end portion of the rivet. The rivet is part of the male component of a universal joint which further comprises a socket secured to the rear surface of the enlarged portion.

Abstract: A plastic button having a tiltable button cap (1) with a rotationally symmetrical bottom part (3) that can be riveted to a carrier cloth (5) by means of a tack (6). To provide a permanent connection between button cap (1) and bottom part (3) even under frequent tilting motions, there is formed on button cap (1) a hollow shank (2) that terminates at its lower end in an inwardly projecting annular flange (8). The bottom part (3) made separate therefrom has, at is upper end, a conically tapering collar (10) which can be driven into hollow shank (2), with elastic expansion of annular flange (8), and which, in the joined together state, engages with its shoulders (11) behind the annular flnage (8).

Abstract: A decorative covering part for a utilitarian element such as a clothing button, a shirt cuff or blouse cuff button, or an ornamental element, comprises an insertion opening for the utilitarian element bounded on at least two facing sides by a gripping surface for the utilitarian element. A distance between sides of the insertion opening decreases, in at least one region, in the direction opposite to the direction of insertion. The covering part can therefore be made from any material, including rigid materials, and can be easily manipulated.

Abstract: A fastening device for securing a pair of socks together includes a first fastener attached to one sock of the pair and a second fastener attached to the other sock of the pair, said fasteners being releasably engageable with one another. The fastening device prevents the loss of socks due to separation from one another and the inconsistent pairing of socks of a similar type.

Abstract: The invention relates to a clasp having coverable clasp parts, comprising a clasp upper part (1) of dish-shaped cross section and, pressable into the latter, a clasp lower part (2) of dish-shaped cross section, the upper and lower surfaces facing one another and the internal space of the clasp serving to receive the ends (9) of the covering material (3) surrounding the clasp upper part (1). The lower surface and the upper surface of the clasp do not run parallel to one another. The plane (5) of the lower surface of the clasp lower part (2) runs parallel, however, to the plane (7) of the edges of the open underside (7) of the clasp upper part (1), and the open plane of the upper side (6) of the clasp lower part (2) runs parallel to the upper side (4) of the clasp upper part (1) forming the upper surface. Furthermore, the invention also relates to an apparatus for producing the fabric-covered clasp.

Abstract: A button cover, in particular for shirt cuff buttons, comprising a covering member (2) and a fastening support integral to it. The fastening support comprises a circular edge (7) extending from a face of the covering member and having a semiannular projection (8) inwardly extending from said edge. An annular member (3) is axially connected to the edge for sliding in a circumferential direction and has an internal diameter equal to the external diameter of the edge. The annular member is provided with an inwardly extending semiannular projection (10) and blocking elements (8a, 10a) are provided for preventing any rotation of the annular member (3) with respect to the edge (7) when a button has been entered and secured within the edge.

Abstract: An apparatus wherein a first embodiment includes a dome cover assembly, including spaced parallel resilient legs for directing through associated apertures of a button, with projections directed orthogonally relative to the legs to lock the cover relative to the button. A further embodiment of the instant invention includes a cover assembly mounted to a button disk, wherein the button disk includes a semi-annular loop orthogonally oriented relative to a bottom surface of the disk for securement to a garment. The cover is optionally formed of magnetic material to receive a magnetically attractive covering disk thereon to enable replacement of covers as desired by an individual. The embodiment further includes a resilient polymeric dome mounted to overlie the cover disk and plate, wherein the resilient dome is optionally formed including a matrix of deformable wire formed therethrough. The resilient dome may accordingly be reshaped as desired to various configurations in use.

Abstract: An attaching device for attaching a fastener element to a garment fabric includes a stud body having an enlarged head and including a clinching member and a relatively thick reinforcing member joined with the clinching member and forming at least a part of the head, the clinching member having at least one shank extending substantially perpendicular to the head and adapted to be clenched with the fastener element. A cap is formed of a synthetic resin and injection-molded over at least a peripheral edge portion of the head. The stud body includes a cap-retaining portion in the form of a plurality of recesses formed in the peripheral edge portion of the head and held in locking engagement with the material of the molded cap for firmly retaining the cap in position against removal from, and rotation relative to, the head.

Abstract: An interchangeable snap button system permits the user to change the appearance of a blouse, dress or jacket by changing the appearance of the buttons. A combined female snap member and button is formed of a conventional-type female snap member with a metal loop secured on the back thereof so it may be sewn onto a garment, serving as a button. Sets of different decorative members have male snap members bonded to them, and may be selectively snapped onto the female snap and button member. Earring clips may also have male snap members secured thereto to selectively receive the decorative members.

Abstract: A nail button and a method for manufacturing the nail button are disclosed. The nail button consists of a button cap and a base. The base comprises a collet and an attaching means associated with the collet. The collet is characterized in that it is not perforated and in that it comprises a lipped recess in the collet for joining the attaching means to the collet.

Abstract: A button collet is disclosed for use with a mating tack to form a button on a garment fabric. The collet includes a cap having a dove-tail cavity, an insert member adhesively bonded in place therein, and a shank member or eyelet fixedly secured to the insert member. The insert member has a plurality of clamping lugs which are crimped around a flanged peripheral edge of the shank and a plurality of peripheral notches in spaced apart relation alternating with the clamping lugs.

Abstract: A guard which encloses clothing buttons during cleaning operations. The guard includes a cup-shaped container with a slot which allows the guard to slide over the button. A cap may be releasably secured to the container to completely enclose the button and protect it from damage.

Abstract: A drop-off-proof button, which is not thread sewn to the clothing to which it is attached, and is capable of staying on to the clothing permanently without dropping off and of being attached to or detached from the clothing at will. It comprises one main button head, one auxiliary button head and one connecting stud. To the main button head, a decorative piece can be fixed through appropriate means. The main button head, the auxiliary button head and the connecting link can be made in one integral piece, or separately into independent pieces. The connecting link can be made integral with the main button head or the auxiliary button head, to which the auxiliary button head or the main button head can then be fixed through appropriate means respectively. In attaching the button to the clothing, the auxiliary button head is buttoned into a matching buttonhole on one flap of the clothing.

Abstract: A button device has a head member and a back member joined therewith, the head member having a central cavity dimensioned to receive an insert member with a press-fit. The insert member is generally dome-shaped with its peripheral wall upwardly tapered. The cavity is defined by an inner wall initially upwardly flared but deformed to taper when a peripheral ridge is clamped against the insert member by a punch capable of producing a clamping pressure of a bidirectional vector.

Abstract: A clothing ornamentation device adapted to be fitted to a button inserted in a buttonhole including a cylindrical body which is hollow on the inside in order to house or maintain in position a button so that the periphery of the latter can serve as a guide and its axis serves as a rotation axis for the cylindrical body. One end of the body serves as a decorative device or support therefor, and the second end being provided with a perpendicular strip forming a lug substantially in the direction of the generatrices of the cylindrical body and constituting the start of an open ring parallel to the second end terminating in a short ramp provided with a dull point.

Abstract: A button body of an open-faced button includes an ornamental face disk rotatably supported on a cylindrical retainer firmly fitted in the tubular stem of a button back. The retainer has an axial hole for receiving the shank of a tack, and a radial groove extending transversely across the axial hole. The radial groove and the axial hole is separated by a locking step extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the retainer. When the shank is staked into the retainer to attach the button body to a garment fabric, a front end of the shank is deformed into an axially compressed and radially swelled end portion and held in interlocking engagement with the locking step of the retainer.

Abstract: A tiltable button comprises a shank and cover or shell. The shank and shell between them have means to prevent relative rotation. In one form the shank has radial recesses and the shell inward deflections which go into the radial recesses. In another form the shank has spokes which go out to a ring over which the shell is crimped, the spokes permitting tilting of the shell but not rotation relative to the shank. Anti-rotation projections are formed downwardly on the bottom of the shank. The purpose of preventing rotation is so that logos and other indicia on the shell will always be right side up.

Abstract: A button for attachment to a sheet of compliant material that includes an elastic body and a cap formed from malleable material secured to the body. The flange of the elastic body has an integral thin ring to which the outer portion of the cap is wrapped around and secured. Heat causes expansion of the elastic body; but, because, the ring is thin there is little expansion and the periphery of the cap is not cammed open to become loose on the body of the button.

Abstract: A domed cap button collet and the method and apparatus for the manufacture of same by deforming a flat domed button collet having an elastic body including: a shank; a radially extending plate-like flange located one end of the shank; and, a cap formed of malleable material overlying the outer surface of the flange and crimped to the peripheral portion of the flange. Pressure is simultaneously applied to bend the flange and cap member into a substantially convex dome shape. Upon removal of the pressure, the cap member retains its dome shape and the flange member reverts to its original plate-like configuration.

Abstract: A plastic stud or socket of a snap comprising a stud or socket body with a flange having an annular groove formed at the bottom. The groove is reversely tapered outward, or downward, and open at the bottom of the flange so as to receive a plurality of clinchable prongs of a backing member for attachment to an article of clothing or the like. In another aspect, the radially inner and outer sidewalls of the annular groove in the flange extend outwardly to form projecting edges respectively.
