Patent number: 4523352Abstract: A hose clip which can be tightened without a screw has an elongated band with a first end section which is formed with a closed slot for threading of the second end section therethrough. The end portion of the first end section has a pallet which engages one of a series of external teeth on the second end section to hold the band against expansion when the band surrounds and is tightened around an elastic hose. The end portion of the first end section extends radially outwardly and abuts against a back support which is an integral part of the first end section and is formed by looping the first end section radially outwardly adjacent to its end portion. The provision of the back support on the first end section enhances the versatility of the hose clip by enabling it to properly clamp smaller- or larger-diameter hoses without affecting the ability of the end portion of the first end section to remain in proper engagement with a selected tooth of the second end section.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1983Date of Patent: June 18, 1985Assignee: Rasmussen GmbHInventor: Gerhard Wachter

Patent number: 4430775Abstract: A banding strap for attaching a heat shield to a muffler comprises a strap for encircling the muffler and heat shield, the strap including an underlying end segment and an overlying end segment, each including outwardly projecting shoulder sections providing abutments for crimping to interlock the end segments and tighten the strap around the muffler and heat shield. The outwardly projecting shoulder section in the overlying end segment forms an inwardly opening bight for receiving the outwardly projecting shoulder section in the underlying end segment. Each shoulder section includes an inwardly projecting indentation so that the indentation of one of the shoulder sections nests within the indentation of the other of the shoulder sections when the shoulder sections are engaged to prevent lateral misalignment of the end segments with respect to each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1981Date of Patent: February 14, 1984Assignee: Arvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: James C. Arthur

Patent number: 4315348Abstract: A clamp structure with a clamping band and with at least one plastically deformable so-called "Oetiker" ear to be contracted to tighten the clamp structure about the object to be fastened; to assure a substantially smooth, gap-free transition in the circumferential direction within the area of overlap, for example, of an inner and outer band portion in the area of mechanical interlock or of an insert member and corresponding parts of the clamping band, a tongue portion is provided at each free end of the inner part which is adapted to engage in a corresponding aperture in the respective outer part when the ear is contracted.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1979Date of Patent: February 16, 1982Inventor: Hans Oetiker
-
Patent number: 4312101Abstract: An insert ring for use with a hose clamp of the type provided with a circumferential band portion and with at least one ear projecting outwardly from the band and adapted to be deformed so as to tighten the clamp about the object to be fastened; the insert ring is so constructed and arranged as to prevent the portion of the insert ring underneath a respective ear from escaping outwardly into the opening within the area underneath the ear during contraction of the latter to thereby prevent any leakage within that area of the ear.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1978Date of Patent: January 26, 1982Inventor: Hans Oetiker

Patent number: 4308648Abstract: Hose clamps are disclosed comprising a band, band section, or attachment to a band, which yields in a direction circumferentially of the band and which possesses a spring-like quality and/or action such that the clamp is essentially self-adjusting to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction of the assembly (clamp, hose and fitting), as well as for the aging or cold set which the hose undergoes, whereby a fluid-tight seal is maintained throughout the intended life of the assembly, without requiring the clamp to be re-tightened. The bands of the clamps are open-ended and of generally circular configuration and are provided with a tangentially located or oriented worm drive screw for closing the clamp and providing a greater and closer range of adjustment in closing the clamp. The clamps, in some cases, have incorporated therein a positive stop, whereby closure of the clamp can be limited to a specified or predetermined size or diameter.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1980Date of Patent: January 5, 1982Assignee: Murray CorporationInventor: Robert F. Fay

Patent number: 4305179Abstract: A hose clamp having a thickness that is maximum at its longitudinal center and is decreased symmetrically on each side of center progressively in proportion to the distance from the center until reaching end portions of uniform thickness. The band is bent into an annular shape with the ends overlapping. The ends are provided with holding portions projecting radially outward.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1980Date of Patent: December 15, 1981Assignee: Toshikazu OkunoInventor: Hiroshi Sakurada
