Abstract: The present invention relates to a continual comfort adjusting fastener for a footwear article and provides an alternative to fasteners that necessitate periodic attention by the wearer in order to maintain a proper combination of support, fit and comfort by utilizing spring mechanisms to induce a predetermined amount of tension between opposing eye flaps of the footwear article. In accordance with various exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the spring mechanism portion of the spring assembly that provides constant tension between eye flaps may be one of a tension spring, compression spring and torsion spring. The spring assembly is comprised substantially of a spring mechanism and may be fastened directly to eyelets in the footwear article. In accordance with other exemplary embodiments, the spring assembly is further comprised of locking eyelets which themselves are attached to the eye flap of the footwear article via rivets, thus replacing the eyelets.

  • Patent number: 6419135
Abstract: A bottom support cord having a limited stretch for use with a conventional produce harvesting receptacle, such as a fruit picking bucket or bag often used in the harvesting of tree fruit, such as apples, pears, and peaches. The bag is typically tubular with a top opening and a bottom opening. A pair of stretchable support cords replace the typical support ropes that permanently attach to the bag at the bottom and removably attached near the top at a pair of cord receivers. The support cords have a tubular outer sheath that stretches. Within the outer sheath, a non-stretchable inner cord limits the outer sheath's extension. The bag folds upwardly, near the bottom to retain a quantity of produce within. When both support ropes are removed from the cord receivers, the bottom of the bag folds down to dump the produce. The stretchable support cords extend to increase the holding capacity of the bag automatically.

  • Patent number: 5725009
Abstract: A device for containing and redirecting fluid which is released when a fitting is removed from an end of a pipe is attached to a pipe after the connection between the pipe and the fitting has been loosened. The device comprises a bag which has an opening in the top of the bag. The opening allows the bag to be placed over the fitting that is to be removed. The bag has a plurality of adjustment straps which connect to an upper portion and a lower portion of the bag. When the adjustment straps are adjusted, slack is formed in the material of the bag between upper and lower ends of the adjustment straps. The slack thus formed allows the fitting within the bag to be manipulated so that the fitting can be removed from the pipe. Fluid discharged from the pipe upon removal of the fitting is contained within the bag or directed through a hose to a receptacle or drain.

  • Patent number: 5682652
Abstract: An adjustable tie-down stretch cord comprising an elastic rope and a pair of slidably-mounted hooks. The hooks have a cylindrical tubular member and an S-shaped hook member. The tubular member is provided with a specially-shaped bore and flared slot in the wall. The inner bore at a throat end has a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the elastic rope and increases to a flared end. The flared slot extends from near the throat end to the flared end, increasing in width in a curved manner. The hook member has a hook portion and a rib portion. The elastic rope is formed of a plurality of elastic strands or sheets wrapped in a woven or braided, polypropylene, nylon, polyester, or cotton jacket. The hooks are retained on the rope by knobs formed by folding over and crimping each end of the rope using a hog ring.

  • Patent number: 5651633
Abstract: A locking fastener includes a generally C-shaped body (10) with a slot (16) for holding a loop of webbing (18) extending from a tent membrane (17). The C-shaped body has an internal opening (11), and a gap (12) between the two ends for snapping around the intersection of two tent poles (19). An elastic cord (14) has one end attached to the C-shaped body, and a free portion for tightly wrapping around the intersection of the poles. An anchoring notch (15) on the C-shaped body receives the remaining free portion of the cord for anchoring it and maintaining it in tension. Thus the tent membrane is fastened to the poles, and the poles are locked together to prevent their intersecting point from shifting, so that in conjunction with additional poles and fasteners, the shape and structural integrity of the tent is maintained.

  • Patent number: 5615811
Abstract: A retractable carrying device that effectively positions an object snugly against a user's body allowing the user to carry the object from their shoulder for long periods of time without stress and irritation. The retractable carrying device maintains tension on receiving means thereby preventing undesirable noise, and also automatically and tensionally adjusts when the retractable carrying device is utilized as a stabilizing aid. The retractable carrying device is constructed with a first elongated flexible securing means, a second elongated flexible securing means, and a retractable mechanism, the retractable mechanism being enveloped by shielding means. The retractable mechanism has elastic properties and is of the type that can be stretched or extended when an opposing directional force is applied to the retractable mechanism, thereby increasing the effective length of the retractable mechanism, and which will then return or retract to its original length when the opposing directional force is released.
