  • Patent number: 11045813
Abstract: Various embodiments of a hammermill system, hammer, and methods are disclosed. A hammermill hammer comprises a metal composite comprising a plurality of inserts and a body portion disposed between each of the plurality of inserts. The composition of the plurality of inserts is different than composition of the body portion. The material of the plurality of inserts has a greater abrasion resistance than the material of the body portion and the material of the body portion has a greater impact resistance than the material of the inserts. The hammers produced have improved wear resistance and longer useful life compared to conventional hammermill hammers.

Abstract: The present invention provides a mill having an agitator and grinding chamber which is coated with a non-pigmented, abrasion resistant polymer and a method of using this mill to provide substantially pure ground particles. The polymer coating is typically a thermosetting polymer such as polyurethane or an elastomer such as a fluoroelastomer. The polymer coating provides an abrasion resistant layer between the milling media and the agitator as well as between the grinding chamber and the milling media to prevent spalling, thus increasing the purity of the resultant ground material. The agitator mill may optionally include a ceramic gap separator which is typically formed of stacked plates separated a predetermined distance by shims to separate the ground particles from the milling media in the grinder chamber, thus allowing only the ground particles to pass out of the grinding chamber.

  • Patent number: 5782677
Abstract: A workpiece cleaning mill that is useful for cleaning castings includes a hollow housing that is established by arranging plural elongated manganese flights side-by-side to establish a cylinder, and attaching the flights to opposed entrance and exit rings. A feed conveyor feeds workpieces into the entrance end, and an exit conveyor conveys the workpieces away from the exit end. Media throwers are disposed at each end to throw high-speed cleansing media, such as shot, into the housing. The housing is rotated as the workpieces move, under the influence of gravity and/or following workpieces being fed into the housing, from the entrance end to the exit end while being bombarded with shot. Steel mesh curtains at each end block the media from passing outside of the mill. Spent media falls through perforations in the flights, and the spent media is conveyed back to a media hopper and thence to the media throwers for reuse. Magnetic valves regulate the amount of media thrown by the throwers.

  • Patent number: 5638887
Abstract: A retaining rod is provided for forcing a tight interfit between adjacent segments of a liner of a casting shake-out unit, sand reclaimer, rotary media drum, or a tumbling unit. The adjacent edges of the liner segments have triangular grooves which combine to create diamond shaped channels between adjacent segments of the liner. The rod is generally diamond shaped in cross-section and tapered from front to back, giving the rod an overall trapezoidal appearance. The cross-sectional height of the rod is greater than the cross-sectional width of the rod. Thus, the rod can be placed in the channel in one of two positions and the same rod may be used if the clearance between adjacent segments is large or small simply by rotating the rod 90.degree..

  • Patent number: 5630558
Abstract: A shelf for protecting the inner surface of a vertical shell of a pulverizer against wear. It is partially replaceable. The shell accommodates a screw shaft and is filled with a pulverizing medium and a material to be pulverized. At least one of them is magnetizable. The shelf is made up of vertical and circumferential ribs and mounted in the shell. It is divided both vertically and circumferentially into a plurality of blocks that are coupled together by bolts and nuts. Magnets are provided in the spaces defined by the ribs. By turning the screw shaft, the pulverizing medium is pushed radially outward and partially trapped in the above spaces, thus forming a wear protective lining. When any of the ribs is worn, only the block that includes this rib is replaced with a new one.

  • Patent number: 5360174
Abstract: An arrangement for recording the instant volume of grinding charge in the mill drum of a rotary drum mill of the kind provided with an internal lifting device. In order to enable the volume of grinding charge to be used in a better way as a parameter for controlling mill operation, the lifting device is resilient and is provided with a load detecting device which, during each drum revolution, detects when the lifting device comes into engagement with, and is in engagement with the grinding charge present in the drum and leaves, or is caused to leave, engagement with the grinding charge. The arrangement also includes a tension sensing device which registers the tension on the load detector, this tension being contingent on the load to which the lifting device is subjected by the grinding charge.

  • Patent number: 4946110
Abstract: A novel laminar assembly for use with comminution equipment, such as a liner for protecting the shell of an ore crushing mill or as a wear tip on a blow bar for use in a rock impact crusher. The laminar segment includes a plurality of laminae which are attached to each other with a rod extending through holes positioned in the base of the laminae, thereby forming a segment of virtually any desired length. Mounting bolts are configured in two pieces, with an axial hole extending through the head of the mounting bolt by which they are mounted to the rod and thereby attached to the liner segment. A second piece of the mounting bolt threadably engages the head of the bolt and extends through the mounting surface of the comminution equipment being used. The utilization of small laminae enable the laminae to be cast and heat treated such that the microstructure throughout the laminae may be strictly controlled, thereby providing a laminae with consistent hardness and toughness throughout the laminae.

  • Patent number: 4830289
Abstract: A centrifugal fluidized grinding apparatus having balls as a grinding medium therein, comprises a parting vessel having a vertical axis, composed of inner and outer vessel parts both forming a circumferential groove. The circumferential groove has a continuous and smooth surface and provides a completely open inner space allowing the grinding medium and starting material to move freely through any part of the entire area of the inner space without encountering any obstacles. The groove has a generally ovoid profile with an upper part thereof cut away in a vertically cross-sectional view taken along a plane including the axis. The ovoid has a longitudinal axis intersecting the vertical axis at a position over the parting vessel. The inner and outer vessel parts are mounted for relative rotation about the vertical axis, in such a manner that the inner vessel part is rotated while the outer vessel part is stationary, or the latter is rotated in a reverse direction.
