Patent number: 5782677Abstract: A workpiece cleaning mill that is useful for cleaning castings includes a hollow housing that is established by arranging plural elongated manganese flights side-by-side to establish a cylinder, and attaching the flights to opposed entrance and exit rings. A feed conveyor feeds workpieces into the entrance end, and an exit conveyor conveys the workpieces away from the exit end. Media throwers are disposed at each end to throw high-speed cleansing media, such as shot, into the housing. The housing is rotated as the workpieces move, under the influence of gravity and/or following workpieces being fed into the housing, from the entrance end to the exit end while being bombarded with shot. Steel mesh curtains at each end block the media from passing outside of the mill. Spent media falls through perforations in the flights, and the spent media is conveyed back to a media hopper and thence to the media throwers for reuse. Magnetic valves regulate the amount of media thrown by the throwers.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1997Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Inventor: Richard C. Kanouse

Patent number: 5472148Abstract: In a grinding mill, a polymeric filler material is molded into the rectangular or prismatic recesses in a metallic or ceramic lining. In a grinding mill where longitudinally extending elongate ribs of the lining have two different radial thicknesses or heights, with relatively narrow bars and relatively thick bars alternating with one another, the filler material is initially cast to have a cylindrical or undulating inner surface. Where the surface is cylindrical, the filler material is worn away during use of the grinding mill and gradually conforms to the alternating narrow and thick bars to assume an undulating inner surface. Supplemental lifter bars may be embedded in the grid and rubber filler material during the casting process. Where the lining is assembled from elongate wedge-shaped metallic or ceramic bas and spacers, the bars and spacers are provided in modular forms with the spacers as wing-like extensions on the bars. Ceramic or other hard particles are embedded in the filler material.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1993Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: Envirotech Pumpsystems, Inc.Inventor: Leon E. Patent number: 4289279Abstract: A mill lining is disclosed, intended for e.g. a primary or autogenous mill in the mining industry. The lining comprises shell plates and lifter bars made from elastomer material and mounted in a mill drum. The lifter bars extend substantially in the axial direction of the mill drum and project into the mill drum beyond the inner surface of the shell plates. At least some of the lifter bars, preferably every second, are designed to act as elastomer springs by having a longitudinal recess or slot in their impact front side facing forwardly in the contemplated direction of rotation of the mill drum. The recess or slot is inside the inner surface of the shell plates and serves as a strain concentrator concentrating the tensile strain of the lifter bars to an area relatively unexposed to sliding abrasion of the material being ground.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1979Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Assignee: Trelleborg ABInventor: Bertil Brandt

Patent number: 4270705Abstract: The disclosure is directed to an improved liner assembly for the drum or shell of an ore grinding machine, comprising a first plurality of liner segments mounted directly to the shell and a second plurality of segments each of which is secured to one of the first segments independently of the shell. In the claimed embodiment, each of the first segments defines a longitudinal, axially extending channel that opens toward the center of the shell and has opposed inner surfaces that converge toward the shell center. The first segments are secured to the shell by nut and bolt assemblies that extend through the segment from the bottom of the channel and through the shell. The second segments are constructed for lengthwise insertion into the channel, and each has converging sides conforming to the channel sides for retention therein, while at the same time protectively overlying the nut and bolt assemblies during the grinding process.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1979Date of Patent: June 2, 1981Assignee: Minneapolis Electric Steel Castings CompanyInventor: Darrell R. Patent number: 4243182Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a multiple zone liner system for the cylindrical shell of a ball mill. The liner system comprises a plurality of liner sections which are constructed for mounting on the inner shell surface of the mill in sequential relation along its rotational axis. Each liner section is formed with a plurality of elevated ridges disposed in substantial alignment with the shell access, and which are circumferentially spaced therearound to define a comminuting surface. Each ridge defines a lifting surface that is disposed at a predetermined angle relative to a radius of the shell, and each ridge has a predetermined lifting dimension. The number of ridges of each liner section increases from section to section from the inlet to the outlet of the mill. The angle of the lifting surfaces of the ridges also increases from section to section toward the mill outlet. The lifting dimension of the ridges decreases from section to section from the mill inlet to the outlet.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1979Date of Patent: January 6, 1981Assignee: Minneapolis Electric Steel Castings CompanyInventor: Charles B. Patent number: 4235386Abstract: The disclosure is directed to an improved liner assembly for an ore grinding mill. The liner assembly is of the segmented type, comprising a first plurality of segments which are mounted directly to the shell of the mill, and a second plurality of segments each of which is secured to an associated first segment independently of the shell. The first segments are formed from material which is resistant to impact, and the second segments are made from material which is highly resistant to abrasion. As constructed, the second segments can be replaced after a period of wear from inside the mill, avoiding the necessity of replacing the first liner segments which requires working teams both inside and outside the mill. In one embodiment, the second segments are L-shaped and are secured to the first segments by nut and bolt assemblies that are generally aligned with the shell surface to resist shear forces.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1978Date of Patent: November 25, 1980Assignee: Minneapolis Electric Steel Castings CompanyInventor: Darrell R.
