  • Patent number: 11001700
Abstract: A process for manufacturing eggshell powder for use in the production of bio-based products is provided. The process involves exposing a quantity of eggshell to high air speed at room temperatures to pulverize the eggshell and separate the eggshell component from the inner membrane component. Thus, the process avoids the use of high temperatures and other harsh chemical treatments to remove the inner membrane from the eggshell thereby resulting in an eggshell material that retains the original lipid-protein structure of the native eggshell from which the powder derives. Accordingly, an eggshell powder composition is provided that is substantially free of inner membrane material and possesses a lipid-protein structure substantially similar to that of the eggshell from which the powder is derived. A polymer composite composition comprising an eggshell component and a polymer component is also provided.

Abstract: The invention uses a dispersion (303) of suspended single-layer graphene (201), multilayer graphene (202), and graphite (203), and applies a magnetic field to the dispersion (303) to separate the single-layer graphene (201) from the dispersion (303). In the magnetic field applying step of the graphene producing method, the single-layer graphene (201), the multilayer graphene (202), and the graphite (203) are situated at different locations in solvent by using the difference in the diamagnetism strengths of the single-layer graphene (201), the multilayer graphene (202), and the graphite (203).

Abstract: A refrigerant gas is collected and a compressor is removed from a discarded refrigerator, a heat-insulating housing including a heat insulator is cut/processed and separated into a plurality of pieces, and the pieces are compressed/processed by compression rollers opposing each other so as to collect a gas contained in the heat insulator. In accordance with this method, substantially no gas contained in the heat insulator is diffused at the time of cutting the heat-insulating housing, and the gas can be collected at a high concentration because it is collected by being allowed to leak out at the time of compressing. Furthermore, by using the compression rollers, closed-cells in the heat insulator can be crushed easily, thereby collecting the gas completely and reliably. Thus, it is possible to collect a foaming gas contained in the heat insulator efficiently and disassemble a refrigerator at low cost without increasing the size of-equipment and an installation space.

During this processing, the waste eggshell particles are at least slightly abraded, whereby the linking structure between the membrane and shell is at least partially disrupted. Thereafter, the waste eggshell particles are conveyed to a device, which isolates the two components based on their size and weight differences. Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating the organic membrane portion of waste egg shells from the hard inorganic mineral portion thereof, so that each can be used or further processed as desired, thereby addressing the environmental and economic issues associated with disposing of waste egg shells. The membrane and shell are separated by first processing waste eggshells so as to yield small waste eggshell particles. During this processing, the waste eggshell particles are at least slightly abraded, whereby the linking structure between the membrane and shell is at least partially disrupted. Thereafter, the waste eggshell particles are conveyed to a device, which isolates the two components based on their size and weight differences. The methods listed above can provide products from the eggshell waste including precipitated calcium carbonate, membrane, protein, amino acids, collagen and other important components.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a high throughput screening (HTS) method, comprising reducing the particle size of a poorly soluble candidate compound to about 1 micron or less using a small scale mill or microfluidics. The product produced from this process is a dispersion of a nanoparticulate candidate compound having one or more surface stabilizers adsorbed onto the surface of the compound. The reduction in particle size results in an increase in the solubility and/or dispersibility of the compound, thus increasing the effectiveness of HTS conducted in conjunction with the particle size reduction process. The particle size reduction process can be conducted before HTS to make screening compounds soluble and/or dispersible, or after HTS to validate an insoluble or poorly compound determined to be active after screening.

Abstract: A process, and associated apparatus, that separates the economic components of scrapped rubber tires while isolating and removing certain levels of contamination associated with these tires. The separation of the scrap tires contaminants is accomplished by shredding, washing, and rasping the tire product. The continual laboratory testing of the waste wash water and removal of the contaminates and particulates will produce an end-product of 3 to 100 mesh/crumb which will be virtually without contamination. The quality of the end-product is further enhanced by the associated quality apparatus that removes the steel and fiber products in addition to any contaminants.

Abstract: A method of processing waste is disclosed wherein the municipal solid waste is segregated and processed to recover reusable rubber, metal, plastic, glass and the remaining organic portion of the waste stream is used to make ethanol and other chemicals. One process utilizes a pretreatment step with dilute sulfuric acid to reduce the heavy metal content of the cellulosic component of the municipal solid waste which can inhibit the fermentation of the sugars obtained from such waste. In another, the heavy metal content of the cellulosic component of municipal solid waste is removed via an ionic exchange process, after hydrolysis with sulfuric acid. A process for an economical, energy efficient production of ethanol from municipal solid waste is also disclosed.
