  • Patent number: 4905920
Abstract: A milling device comprises two milling bodies one of which is hollow and encloses the other, and a driving unit connected to one of the milling bodies via a shaft nonrotatably connected with the one milling body to cause it to rotate about its own axis in rolling contact with the other milling body. Both milling bodies are universally movable in a surface essentially transverse to the axis of rotation, but are actuated by a return force which increases as the pendulum movement increases. To provide for the return force, the two milling bodies are supported in pendulum fashion, or use is made of resilient means, such as springs.

Abstract: A quick release grinding assembly is incorporated in a condiment grinder mill. A base receives and stores condiment pieces such as peppercorns. A head is mounted on the base for rotation relative to the base. An elongate shaft extends through the head and base and the shaft is secured to the head for rotation relative to the base. The grinding mechanism includes a grinder cone attached to the end of the shaft and a grinder ring mounted in the end of the base. A support ring is formed with an outer perimeter or ring secured to the base and a flexing inner perimeter or ring of flexible deformable material receives and centers the shaft. The inner rim deformable material has an initial configuration and memory for return to the original configuration after flexing deformation. The shaft is formed with projecting ears arranged to be forcibly passable through the inner rim of the support ring by flexing deformation of the inner rim for quick release disassembly and assembly of the grinding mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4773599
Abstract: A series of screens for use with a size reduction machine have a tapered apertured wall formed into a frusto-conical shape, with an open wide end and a narrow closed end. All screens of a particular series have a cylindrical section, the same interior depth, outside diameter and angle of the tapered wall. Despite variations in the material wall thickness, screens of the same series are interchangeable on a size reduction machine and the gap can remain constant without any adjustment to the impeller. Further, a size reduction machine has means external to the machine providing for infinite adjustments to the gap. With previous machines, each time that a screen of a different thickness was used, it was necessary to make an adjustment to the gap in order to maintain the same gap. Further, when an adjustment to the gap is required, that is accomplished by removing the screen and impeller from the machine and inserting spacers onto the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4448358
Abstract: A continuous high speed grinding and disperser mill and classifier for fluids is enclosed. The mill permits a high flow rate and thus does not require cooling. It comprises an enclosed vessel having an annular wear ring in the approximate center of the vessel, a shaft rotatable about a vertical axis extending into the vessel terminating at an end in the approximate center of the vessel, an impeller attached to the end of the shaft adapted to rotate within the wear ring, the impeller being in the form of a circular disc with a plurality of shear blades at the periphery producing a high shear zone between the blades and the wear ring. An inlet is provided in the vessel directly below the impeller on the vertical axis and an outlet in the vessel positioned at a predetermined height directly above the impeller on the vertical axis such that a flow of fluid from the inlet to the outlet passes through the high shear zone. Means are provided to rotate the shaft and impeller.

  • Patent number: 4434944
Abstract: A mill or crusher useful for crushing and grinding material employing mechanical vibratory drive force at a sonic frequency. A drive shaft having orbiting eccentric weight means fixedly attached thereto and having freedom of motion both rotationally and laterally is rotatably driven by a drive motor to generate quadrature related vibratory force components in the drive shaft. Rotatably supported on the drive shaft by means of suitable bearings is a driving member having mass (inductive) inertia in said sonic frequency range. A "slave" member is freely supported on vibration isolation members in external concentricity with the driving member so that it is effectively in a "floating" condition, thus presenting a mass reactance in said sonic frequency range. Material to be milled or crushed is fed in the gap between the driving member and the free-floating "slave". Cycloidal force is delivered from the shaft to the driving member to precess or roll around on the inside wall of the free floating slave member.
