With Means To Force Material Toward Periphery Of Comminuting Surface Patents (Class 241/280)
  • Patent number: 4061280
Abstract: Apparatus for grinding pigment and for introducing predetermined amounts of pigment to plastic material being fed to an injection molding machine. The pigment is ground from bars by a helical grinder energized by variable speed means which controls the ratio of pigment to plastic in the feed to the injection screw. Positive displacement pigment feeding means is included having automatic disengagement means associated with the feeding means for disengaging the latter when the pigment material has become substantially exhausted. The feeding means is chain driven and is adjustable relative to the chain to ensure there is no slack between the feeding means and the pigment bars.

  • Patent number: 4017356
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for manufacturing ground wood pulp from ligno-cellulose containing wood block material by forcing the block material to be ground against the end surface of a rotatably mounted grinding disc which has projecting grinding means in the shape of elevations or ridges located on the disc end surface which define grooves directed towards the end surface circumference. The apparatus includes a pressure plate for pressing the block material along a longitudinal side against the disc end surface with the fibers directed outwardly from the center of the grinding disc and toward the periphery of circumference of the disc while the fibers are separated. In this manner the fibers are oriented in the same direction as the edges of the elevations or ridges which carry the fibers radially outward and the elevation edges engage the block fibers under a movement component which is transverse to the longitudinal direction of the fibers.

  • Patent number: 4002298
Abstract: For grating cheese for commercial purposes, a motor driven disk having grating surfaces is provided. A semi-cylindrical trough is aligned below the axis of rotation of the disk. A top is hinged to a housing for the motor and has a guard for the upper half of the disk and a cover for the trough. Within the trough is a pusher which pushes a block of cheese against the lower half of the disk. A motor advances the pusher through a rack-and-pinion drive. The top has a latch which engages the pinion to cause it to engage the rack when the top is down. Safety means are provided to stop the motors when the pusher is close to the disk. A further safety feature permits the motors to start only when the top is closed.

  • Patent number: 3991946
Abstract: A machine for cutting wood chips to shavings comprises a rotatable drum having circumferentially spaced cutting members connected to a feed passageway. The latter extends along a substantial portion of the length of the drum and houses feed screws forcing the chips into contact with the cutting members. The drum is surrounded by a housing with a widened portion defining a wedge-shaped cutting chamber. The formed shavings pass inside the drum in the longitudinal direction thereof to the outlet of the machine.

  • Patent number: 3948449
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of a wholly mechanical pulp of improved strength properties. The lignocellulosic material is fed into a substantially closed chamber where it is mechanically abraded under a power input of fifteen or more horsepower days per ton. During the abrading step, the material is maintained in an inert gaseous atmosphere of a pressure of ten to eighty psig, preferably twenty to forty psig.

  • Patent number: 3938746
Abstract: A pre-tearing device for producing coarse flour out of bale plates of flake-dried wood pulp. The pre-tearing device comprises a feeding device for the plates and a rotating cylinder the surface of which is provided with spikes. The feeding device is arranged to feed the plates to be torn against the surface of the tearing cylinder in a direction that deviates from a direction perpendicular to the surface of the tearing cylinder. The spikes are arranged on the cylinder surface as two spirals rotating in opposite directions in relation to each other.
