Abstract: A method for mounting a wear plate and a knife base on a disc chipper's disc, and a disc chipper. The wear plate (6) rests against the knife base (4) via two counter surfaces (12), one of which forms in the wear plate (6) a groove in parallel to the knife (3) and the other forms in the knife base (4) a ridge which can be fitted into this groove. The tightening force of the fastening bolts (17, 18) of the wear plate (6) presses the knife base (4) against the disc (1) by means of the wear plate via these counter surfaces (12).

  • Patent number: 5819827
Abstract: A stump grinding apparatus having a tooth which is automatically retained with respect to, and appropriately gauged from a pocket. The tooth includes an elongated shank portion having front and rear ends and a head portion integrally extending from the front end of the shank portion. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a pair of longitudinally spaced holes are formed through the shank portion adjacent its rear end. A pin may be inserted through one of the two holes formed through the shank portion, with the chosen hole being dependent upon whether the shape of the pocket being used is either entirely round or partially round with a straight rear edge. When the tooth is securely clamped to the stump grinding wheel via the pocket, the pin is positioned in abutting relation to the rear end of the pocket, thereby preventing the tooth from moving axially with respect to the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5779167
Abstract: A rotatable forage harvester cutterhead having a shaft with a drum assembly coaxially secured to the shaft. A plurality of uniquely configured knives extend from the outer cylindrical surface of the drum, each with a cutting edge length less than half the axial length of the cylindrical surface. The knives are supported by assemblies having a solid mounting block secured to the outer cylindrical surface, which mounting blocks have a mounting surface extending at an acute angle to a radial plane extending from the shaft. Fasteners secure the knives to the mounting surfaces with the cutting edges of the knives extending in the direction of rotation of the cutterhead and generating a cylinder as the cutterhead rotates. Abstract: A granulator for waste material having rotating and bed knives respectively mounted for repeated detachment, sharpening and reinstallation with unskilled labor. Accurate predetermined knife gap distances are maintained by the configuration of surfaces on each rotating knife, whereby a cylindrical surface thereon forming the cutting edge is coincident with a cutting cylinder having a fixed location in the frame. Thus the cutting radius is unaffected by sharpening.

  • Patent number: 5195684
Abstract: The circular housing of a fiberizer mill has a rotationally driven shaft on which there is a disk haivng a conical face and spaced apart rows of teeth. A stationary disk has on its face a multiplicity of annular grooves which define teeth. There is a small gap between the tips of the rotary teeth and the tips of the stationary teeth. The gap extends at an acute angle relative to vertical plane passing perpendicular to the shaft axis so that particles being disintegrated experience a horizontal component of force. The result is that particles, after having been exploded by striking the teeth on the stationary disk, are emitted generally radially outwardly from the gap. Hammer bars on the periphery of the rotary disk are surrounded by a toothed circular breaker plate member concentric to the orbital path of the hammers on the rotary disk.

  • Patent number: 5143311
Abstract: An apparatus for forming wood shavings from wood stock includes a rotatable cutting roll for engaging and cutting wood shavings from a wood stock advanced by a feed mechanism along a predetermined path of travel to the roll. A rotatable roll of the feed mechanism has peripheral teeth that engage the wood stock and control its advancement along the path of travel. The teeth are inclined rearwardly relative to the direction of rotation of the roll so that the teeth have a negative rake angle. An anvil is positioned adjacent the end of the path of travel and closely adjacent the cutting roll for restricting advancement past the cutting roll of pieces of wood stock other than the shavings.

Abstract: A drum refiner for grinding fibrous material, preferably chips, has an engine-driven drumshaped rotor which is placed on a horizontal shaft. The rotor has grinding surfaces extending parallel to the rotor axis and corresponding opposing grinding surfaces arranged on the housing. The grinding elements are placed symmetrically about at least one material feeds which are conveniently evenly distributed around the circumference of the rotor. The grinding surfaces begin parallel to the axis and contiguously increasing in inclination forming a grinding gap inclined towards the rotor axis at an angle of approximately 5.degree. to 45.degree., preferably 15.degree.. The second embodiment includes grinding surfaces contiguously increasing in inclination and ending with an angle of inclination of approximately 90.degree. to the rotor axis.

Abstract: Improved insert teeth and holder assemblies are provided for a material breaker machine intended for use in reducing chunks or pieces of wood, metal and other materials to small size. The present invention includes an insert tooth member having a pair of edges, either of which may serve as a cutting edge. An insert tooth holder is provided for mounting of the insert tooth. The insert tooth and insert holder interengage through a raised portion on the one and a recessed portion on the other which mate to form a positive mechanical lock. The insert tooth is reversibly mounted on the insert holder to allow either of the pair of edges to assume the position of the cutting edge. The location of the interengaged components allows them to be fully protected from the material being cut, thus minimizing wear and damage.
