  • Patent number: 6978958
Abstract: Structure of a lower case that reinforces a recording tape cartridge. At an inner side of the lower case, an annular projecting portion is provided along and at an inner side of a reel area rib that demarcates a reel area, raising stiffness of the case. At a periphery of a hole for positioning, which is formed in an outer face of the lower case, a recessed surface, which provides a height direction reference surface, is formed. At the inner side of the lower case, a boss is formed in correspondence to the hole for positioning. The boss is located along an outer face of the reel area rib. A thickness-enhancing portion is formed at the periphery of a base portion of the boss. Thus, thickness at the reference surface, that is, the recessed surface, is substantially the same as thickness at portions therearound.

Abstract: In the cartridge, the opening is formed diagonally to an arrow A direction by cutting away a corner portion at a drive device loading side, and the opening faces both the arrow A direction and an arrow B direction. A leader pin and a magnetic tape are drawn out along the minimal length path from the opening. A door, which is formed in a circular arc shape in plan view, is guided (to suppress looseness) by case screw bosses, protrusion portions and a guide surface while the door rotates to turn at an outer side of a pin stand and the reel without deviating from a movement path along the form of curvature of the door, and thus the opening is opened/closed.

  • Patent number: 6962304
Abstract: The single reel tape cartridge with tape reel centering features provides one or more features to center the tape reel with respect to the interior surfaces of the tape cartridge housing and a rotatably driven feature, such as a drive chuck, in the tape drive that rotates the tape reel. The single reel tape cartridge with tape reel centering features provides mechanical positioning and centering of the tape reel with respect to the drive chuck of the tape drive when the tape cartridge is in any orientation and constrains lateral movement of the tape reel to prevent the tape reel from contacting the interior surfaces of the tape cartridge housing. This is accomplished by the use of a spring that applies a bias force to press the tape reel against the drive chuck in the tape drive, which rotates the tape reel. One end of the spring is seated in a spring sleeve that is formed in the center of the interior surface of the top section of the tape cartridge housing. The other end of the spring engages the tape reel.

Abstract: In the cartridge, the opening is formed diagonally to an arrow A direction by cutting away a corner portion at a drive device loading side of a case, and the opening faces both the arrow A direction and an arrow B direction. A leader pin and a magnetic tape are drawn out along the minimal length path from the opening. An operation projection of a door of the opening is pushed to move rearward by an operation of loading the case into the drive. The door, which is curvedly formed in a circular arc shape, rotates to turn at an outer side of a pin stand and the reel without deviating from a movement path along the curved form, and opens/closes the opening aperture.

Abstract: A tape guide for use in a tape transport system, such as a data storage tape cartridge or a tape drive. The storage tape extends from the tape reel along a tape path that includes the tape guide. In this regard, the tape guide includes a tape contact face and at least one guide flange. Extension of the guide flange relative to the tape contact face defines an angle of not less than 90°. With this configuration, an edge of the storage tape is directed to move along the guide flange with lateral tape movement so as to minimize the opportunity for micro-buckling. In one preferred embodiment, a portion of the guide flange is curved.

In particular, the hub on the supply reel in the single reel magnetic tape cartridge is dimensioned to accept the length of cleaning tape such that the radial position of the End Of Tape hole in the magnetic tape media occurs in the same position as that of existing single reel magnetic tape cartridges that are not equipped with the length of cleaning tape appended to the magnetic tape media. This enables the cleaning tape equipped magnetic tape cartridge to be compatible with existing tape drive systems.

Abstract: A recording tape cartridge which, with a structure having good produceability, can prevent wear of regions of abutment of a braking member and a releasing member at a time when a reel rotates. In the recording tape cartridge, when the braking member is positioned at a rotation locking position at which the braking member is engaged with an engaging gear provided at a floor portion of a reel hub, rotation of the reel, which is accommodated within a case, with respect to the case is impeded. When the braking member is held at a rotation permitting position at which engagement is released while the braking member abuts a clutch member, rotation of the reel with respect to the case is permitted. The braking member and the clutch member are respectively formed by resin molding, and abut one another at a slide-contact projection which is a resin portion, and a metal plate which is fixed to a clutch main body by caulking.

Abstract: A recording tape cartridge is provided in which an inclined wall is formed at a rear end side of a lower case in a direction of loading into a drive device, and a non-contact-type memory board, which stores generation information such as a storage capacity or the like, is mounted along an inner surface of the inclined wall. Even if an inclined supporting mount or the like is not provided within a case, the memory board is set at an incline. By setting the memory board at an incline in this way, information can be recorded or read from a rear surface side and a bottom surface side of the case. Because there is no need for a supporting mount or the like, a structure of the case is simple and it is unlikely for obstacles to electromagnetic waves to arise.

Abstract: A recording tape cartridge which can be loaded in a drive device by a robot hand which grips the recording tape cartridge from above and below. A pair of ribs along a loading direction of a recording tape cartridge are formed at an angled surface portion of a lower case. A separation distance between these ribs is substantially the same as a width of a lower hand portion of a robot hand. The robot hand grips the recording tape cartridge such that the lower hand portion of the robot hand is disposed between the two ribs. When the recording tape cartridge is being loaded into the drive device, the ribs abut against lateral direction end surfaces of the lower hand portion. Thus, positioning of the recording tape cartridge in the lateral direction relative to the lower hand portion is achieved through the ribs.
