Mechanically Applied Brake Patents (Class 242/421.8)
  • Patent number: 8727259
Abstract: A self-compensating tension control device for regulating the withdrawal of filamentary material from a spool includes a fixed support that maintains an inverted cam surface and a spindle assembly rotatably carrying the spool. A tension force applied to the filamentary material, in opposition to a biasing force, moves the spindle assembly linearly in relation to the fixed support. A braking mechanism includes a brake drum rotatable with the spindle assembly, a friction band adapted to engage the brake drum and a rocker arm that engages the cam surface. When the tension force applied to the filamentary material is reduced and unable to overcome the biasing force, the cam roller engages the cam surface and causes the friction band to generate a braking force on the brake drum. Withdrawal of the filamentary material at a regular rate occurs when the biasing force is balanced with the tension force.

  • Patent number: 7883047
Abstract: A tension adjustment structure for fabric winding machine includes a driving mechanism, a roller, a fabric pressing mechanism and an adjustment mechanism. The roller and the driving mechanism have corresponding transmission wheels strode by a belt. The driving mechanism drives the roller to roll up a fabric. The fabric pressing mechanism has an action arm and a fabric pressing bar located on the action arm. The fabric pressing bar has a first position without in contact with the fabric and a second position in contact with the fabric and lifted by the fabric. The adjustment mechanism is butted by the action arm when the fabric pressing bar is at the first position to butt the belt and increase initial rolling force of the roller. The action arm releases the belt while the fabric pressing bar is at the second position so that fabric rolling tightness can be controlled.

  • Patent number: 7108218
Abstract: A hose dispenser has a rotatable reel 10, holding a coiled hose 12 suitable for conveying breathable gas, mounted on a tubular steel frame 14. The reel has a pivoting arm 16, which has a portion defining an aperture, or “eye” 18 fitted thereon. The hose is threaded through the eye 16 so that the free end of the hose protrudes through the eye. The free end of the hose is fitted with a resilient frusto-conical protective hood 20. The hood provides two functions. First, it enables the free end of the hose to engage the eye of the arm 16, and secondly, it protects a valve 22, located on the free end of the hose, from damage. Another valve 24 is provided in the centre of the reel, which is connected to the other end of the hose. In use, the free end of the hose is carried by an operative, or is attached to breathing apparatus worn by the operative, and the other end is connected to a source containing gas for breathing. The arm 16 is mounted pivotally on the reel.
