    Abstract: A spun yarn winding device includes a machine body; a turret; a feeding roller that is fixed to the machine body, is not in contact with winding bobbins, and feeds yarns to the winding bobbins at a speed equal to or faster than a winding speed; a traverse device fixed at an upstream side of an advance direction of the yarns relative to the feeding roller and which traverses the yarns; a peripheral speed detection unit that detects a peripheral speed of the winding bobbins; and a control unit that is arranged and programmed to perform a basic operation to maintain a free length of the yarns at a standard length by controlling a rotational angle of a turret during a yarn winding period, the free length of the yarns being located between the feeding roller and the winding bobbins.

    Abstract: A method of winding a length of plastic ribbon (such as a zipper of the type used in reclosable packaging) around a cylinder of a spool having a first flange at one end and a second flange at the other end, comprising the following steps: (a) winding the ribbon with a winding tension in a first range when the portion of the ribbon being wound is within a first volume surrounding a central region of the cylinder; and (b) winding the ribbon with a winding tension in a second range when the portion of the ribbon being wound is within second and third volumes surrounding respective portions of the cylinder disposed between the central region and the first and second flanges respectively.     Abstract: A system for winding optical fiber onto a spool includes a spindle assembly for receiving the spool and rotating it around its longitudinal axis. A fiber source for providing a continuous supply of fiber to the spool is positioned relative to the spindle assembly such that rotation of the spool by the spindle assembly causes fiber to be wound onto the spool around its longitudinal axis. A tension sensing device senses and provides feedback related to the amount of tension in the fiber. A traverse assembly causes the fiber to wind onto the spool back and forth between a front spool flange and a rear spool flange, the traverse assembly including a front turnaround position at the front spool flange and a rear turnaround position at the rear spool flange. A controller receives the fiber tension feedback and uses the feedback to determine what adjustment, if any, is to be made to the front and rear turnaround positions.

    Abstract: An apparatus for forming multiple packages on a single collet includes a pair of collets that are mounted on a rotatable turret. A moving strand is provided and the collet is rotated to wind the strand and build a first package on one end of the collet. The strand is reciprocated with a strand reciprocator to lay the strand on the package surface as the package rotates. After the first package is built, a strand positioner and a secondary shoe assist in transferring the strand to build a second package on the collet. After the second package is built, the turret is rotated while the cam moves away from the collet and turret. The strand breaks off after a few revolutions of the second collet. Then, the cam moves toward the second collet to begin building a first package on the second collet.
