  • Patent number: 8740128
Abstract: In a winder assembly, a turret assembly indexes first and second cores between winding and removal positions. A lay-on roll assembly includes a roller and moves between a retracted position and an engaged position wherein the roller and the core, or the work material wound onto the core, cooperate to form a nip. A cutter is provided for cutting a web of sheet-type work material being wound onto the core. An enveloper assembly is provided and includes a nipping pivot roller that can engage a cut edge of the work material and feed the cut edge into the nip formed between the roller forming part of the lay-on roll assembly and a fresh core thereby allowing the work material to wind around the core.

Abstract: Several small diameter short width rolls (124) of plastic film (108) are wound from a larger width and length of plastic web in a continuous manner. The disclosed apparatus slits the larger width plastic web into several narrower width plastic webs, positions the slit webs on a single large diameter winding drum (110) and then winds each narrower width web at a separate winding turret (112, 114). At each turret, the plastic web is rolled around a first mandrel until the roll achieves the desired size. Then, a second mandrel contacts, the plastic web and the plastic web is severed between the first mandrel and second mandrel and attached to a second mandrel to be rolled into a roll of desired length. • Patent number: 6213423
Abstract: A machine for lifting a roll of previously wound material and for unwinding the material from the roll is disclosed. The machine includes a turret shaft around which a lift arm assembly is moved from a first position to a second position. A lifting mechanism for lifting the roll after it is loaded at the first position is also provided. A plurality of lift arm assemblies can be provided so that a stand-by roll can be loaded onto the machine to be quickly rotated into an unwinding position. The lift arm assembly supports the roll without the use of a shaft through the core of the roll. A drive tower is provided which includes a turning belt with a frictional contact surface for contacting the roll as the turning belt is rotating, thereby turning the roll to unwind the material therefrom.
