Deflecting Material Into Coil (e.g., Coreless Coiling) Patents (Class 242/535.1)
  • Patent number: 11453564
Abstract: An apparatus for supplying a coil-like padding product for packaging purposes comprises a supply device for supplying a web-type padding material and also a rolling-up apparatus, which rolls up the web-type padding material to form the coil-like padding product. It is proposed that the rolling-up apparatus should comprise a flexible delimiting means, which can form an at least partially curved delimiting wall of an at least temporarily present rolling-up space, of which the extent is preferably alterable and which has an inlet for the web-type padding material, it being possible for the web-type padding material to enter into the rolling-up space through said inlet, wherein the web-type padding material is guided by the at least partially curved delimiting wall, this resulting in the formation of the coil-like padding product.

Abstract: A foil roll having a wound stiffener core formed from an initially flat sheet of stiffener material fed into a spiral roll winder simultaneously with a feed end of a foil web. An apparatus and method for spirally winding a foil roll with a wound stiffener core in which a stiffener sheet is fed into a roll winder in adjacent outward contact with a foil web and a leading edge of the stiffener slightly ahead of a feed end of a foil web. The stiffener sheet is outwardly disposed from the foil web and in adjacent contact with the roll starter guides to prevent contact between guides and the foil web during initial core formation. Roll starter guides are moved from contact with the outer periphery of the roll once the initial core is formed allowing a desired length of foil web to be spirally wound around the core without damage to the web.

  • Patent number: 7401485
Abstract: Steel strip issues continuously from a downstream end of a rolling line and can be wound up there on a coiler. An inspection table downstream of the rolling line has a surface aligned with the downstream end and the strip emerging therefrom. The coiler is below a plane of the table surface. During normal rolling the strip is deflected downward to the coiler and reeled up. For inspection of the strip, the strip is cut transversely to produce a new leading end and is fed starting at this end toward the table without substantial deflection. Then the strip is cut again upstream of the new leading end to form a strip sample separate from the strip emerging from the rolling line, which sample is fed to the table and arrested and inspected while strip emerging from the line is deflected back down to the coiler to continue coiling it up.
