Particular Hub Or Core Formation Patents (Class 242/613)
  • Patent number: 5868349
Abstract: "A reel or spool" for the winding or unwinding of cable, wire, or the like. The reel includes a hub having a cylindrical wall defining an outer barrel surface and an axial end wall suitable for the application of labels or other identification indicia. A flange extends radially from the outer barrel adjacent each end wall. The flanges have a plurality of integrally formed, radially extending ribs disposed on their outer surface. The connection between the ribs, the axial end wall and the barrel surface of the hub being within the radial extent of the cylindrical wall. In one form of the invention, the hub includes an inclined wall connecting the cylindrical wall, the axial end wall and the ribs.

  • Patent number: 5857635
Abstract: A cable drum assembly comprises a cable drum for a cable-driven apparatus such as a cable window lifter, in particular of a motor vehicle, which automatically compensates for cable slackness without deforming the window lift system. The cable drum has the advantage that it only removes the so-called genuine cable slackness present when the window lifter is in the relaxed state. The cable drum has a part for compensating the cable slackness which can be moved in relation to the outer cable drum wall and is disposed in a guide inside the cable drum. The part may be connected with one cable end of the cable loop, and that when a load is placed on the cable drum by the cable, the part is arrested on the cable drum. When the cable drum is unloaded, a spring urges the part so as to take up cable slackness.

  • Patent number: 5845871
Abstract: Winding cores for the paper industry are restored by removing the metal tips from the ends of the core, trimming the core to eliminate the crimped end portions of the core, providing complementary male and female joint ends to the core, grinding the outer surface of the core to a constant outer diameter less than the industry standard outer diameter to accommodate a finishing layer. The cores with the complementary joints are pressed end to end to form a core master prior to its being ground and then picking up the core masters one by one and bringing them into proximity of a web of liner board material having a length which corresponds to the length of the core master and a width which corresponds to the circumference of the core, contacting the glue bearing liner board web with the core and rotating the core to wrap the web of liner board about the core to provide a finished restored core. The core master is then cut into suitable length winding cores.

  • Patent number: 5681131
Abstract: A system for feeding a cable into a pipeline or other conduit comprises a rotating turret and a local cable feeding mechanism for drawing the cable off of the turret reel and loading it thereon. A remote cable feeding mechanism for inserting the cable into or withdrawing it from the pipeline is attached to a launch saddle secured to the pipeline, and its feeding rate is synchronized with that of the local cable feeding mechanism. Where the cable acts as an umbilical cable carrying fluids and electrical power to a tool inside the pipeline, the fluid and power supplies may be located on the floor of the reel, connected to an operator station by an electrical cable which winds onto and off of the turret shaft and is kept taut by a spring-biased tensioning arm. A flexible fibreglass rod extends through the cable to prevent coiling or bunching up within the pipeline while permitting the cable to traverse bends and corners.
