  • Patent number: 7753334
Abstract: The invention is a window safety harness which can be clamped to the frame of a window and which provides a solid anchor point for a person working around the window. The device includes a bar for placement inside the window, a bar for placement outside the window, and a connecting piece which holds the bars in rigid, spaced apart relation to each other. Each end of both the inside and the outside bar have contact pads which are configured to contact the window frame. They also include a tightening mechanism which tightens the contact pads against the window frame and secures the device in the window frame. An anchor point allows a worker to attach himself to the anchor point for work outside the window, or to anchor a line to the window frame.

  • Patent number: 7744054
Abstract: A device to aid the unloading of support elements, the support elements comprising a lower shaft and an upper shaft telescopically coupled to each other. The device includes annular first and second bodies coaxially couplable with each other. Each annular body is provided with a through-hole that allow the upper shaft to extend through the through holes. The upper shaft is also supported by the first annular body using a transversely extending member. The second annular body rests on the lower shaft. An intermediate unloading wedge is positioned between the first and the second annular bodies coupled together, and is able to slide transversally with respect thereto. The sliding of the unloading wedge causes the first annular body and the second annular body to come together or move apart in the longitudinal direction and, therefore, reduce or increase, respectively, the total length of the support element.

  • Patent number: 7735268
Abstract: An apparatus for bracing a masonry wall that is bowing or has begun to buckle as a result of hydrostatic pressure and/or other forces as may occur with the foundation or basement wall of a building. The wall restraint system includes a vertically disposed beam, which is positioned against a vertical concrete masonry wall and secured in place by a bottom bracket and a top bracket. The beam reinforces the wall and prevents further bowing, buckling, or potentially collapsing of the wall. One end of the beam is secured to the floor by a bottom bracket. The bottom bracket preferably receives the lower end of the beam. The upper end of the beam is secured against the basement wall by a top bracket or offset connector, which in turn is secured to one of the overhead floor joists. The beam may be offset to avoid piping or the like.

  • Patent number: 7730839
Abstract: An article and a process are provided for reducing the shear stress on an interface of a structural member in intimate contact with a compressive load. The article is in the form of a wedge that is forcibly placed against the sidewall of one end or both ends of the structural member. The wedge may take the form of a ring that can be placed on the inside or outside surface of a hollow cylindrical structural member. The process of forcibly placing a wedge against the sidewall at one or both ends of the structural member produces a transverse compressive stress upon the sidewall. The transverse compressive stress upon the sidewall attenuates the tendency of said sidewall to deflect when the structural member is subjected to a compressive load. A reduction in the deflection of the sidewall reduces the shear stress generated proximal to the interface of the structural member in intimate contact with a compressive load and increases the structural member load bearing capacity.

  • Patent number: 7338052
Abstract: An apparatus and method for stabilizing a stationary trailer. One embodiment of the device comprises a jack and a stabilizing member. The jack attaches to the bottom of the trailer, such that when the jack is extended, a base component of the jack engages the ground. A stabilizing member attaches at one end to the base of the jack and attaches at the other end to the bottom of the trailer. The length of the stabilizing member adjusts such that the stabilizing member has one length when the jack is in the raised position, and a second length when the jack is in the lowered position. The length of the stabilizing member may be locked such that the stabilizing member retains a particular length.

Abstract: An adjustable lumber stand system may include a pair of adjustable leg assemblies. Each leg assembly may comprise a first external tubular section into which a second internal section may longitudinally slidably adjust. A pair of base anchors configured to anchor the pair of adjustable leg assemblies may be coupled to lower ends of the first external tubular sections. A pair of adjustable support bracket assemblies may comprise a brace and a support arm configured to support lumber. The first end portions of the support arms and the braces may be coupled to one another and second end portions of the support arms and the braces may be coupled to different locations on the first external tubular sections. A pair of top anchors configured to anchor the pair of adjustable leg assemblies to a structure may be coupled to upper ends of the second internal section.

  • Patent number: 7240885
Abstract: An improved emergency vehicle support kit comprises a cylinder and two pistons attached to form a telescoping device. When assembled, the telescoping device attaches to an improved vehicle support base plate by a swivel support base plate adapter. The support base plate also attaches to swivel support base plate adapter, and this adapter rotates approximately 340 degrees along the upper vehicle support base plate surface. With this swivel support base plate adapter, the operator can manually orient the telescoping device either vertically or at an angle. Knurled connecting collars comprise circular interior lips which prevent each first and second piston from inadvertently falling from the cylinder or the wider piston, as the case may be.

  • Patent number: 7137655
Abstract: A security brace for impeding forced entry into a room through an entry door. The brace comprises a plurality of elongated pole members with foot members secured at a first end of the pole member, and a block member operatively coupled to a second end of the pole members. The block member has a top planar surface with a yoke projecting upward from the top planar surface. The yoke is adapted to receive the shaft of a door knob lock set. When an uninvited intruder applies force to open the entry door, the force vector is directed down the pole members and holds the foot members against the floor, thus impeding the door from swinging open.

  • Patent number: 6910834
Abstract: A mine prop is comprised of an elongate tube having a slenderness ratio that would generally allow buckling or kneeling of the elongate tube when exposed to a sufficient axial force. A plurality of elongate support members having a length less than the elongate tube are attached to the tube to prevent buckling or kneeling of the elongate tube along the portion of the tube to which the elongate support members are attached. The portions of the tube that are unsupported by the elongate support members define one or more yieldable zones proximate at least one end of the tube. A compressible filler material is disposed within at least portion of the tube to support yielding in the yieldable zone.
