  • Patent number: 10125843
Abstract: A horizontal-motion vibration isolator utilizes a plurality of bent flexures to support an object to be isolated from horizontal motion. Each bent flexure includes a fixed end coupled to a base and a floating end which is cantilevered and coupled to the object being isolated. The arrangement of bent flexures allows the vertical height of the isolator to be reduced without compromising vibration isolation performance. Compressed springs or spring-like elements can be added to bear some of the weight of the object being isolated thus increasing the payload capacity of the isolator.

The mounting plate is supported so as to be pivotable with its front end about a horizontally extending axis on a support member which is, in turn, supported by a vertically extending, essentially vertically adjustable support tube and projects laterally relative to the support tube. The mounting plate is supported on its side facing away from the pivoting axis and near the seat and back member by a gas pressure spring. The gas pressure spring has at one end thereof a valve tarppet for operating a valve which is integrated in the gas pressure spring, so that the effective length of the gas pressure spring is adjustable. The end of the gas pressure spring with the valve tappet is supported on the support member. A two-armed lever which acts on the valve tappet is pivotally mounted on a bearing block of the support member which bearing block supports the gas pressure spring.

Abstract: A power tool combination including a hammer drill, an adapter secured to the drill for attaching it to an elongated rod which bears on the floor, a pneumatic cylinder and piston unit mounted between the elongated rod and the drill for applying an uniform external force for moving the power drill into the ceiling, and a coupling member between the pneumatic piston and cylinder unit. The coupling member is rigid for transmitting axial forces therethrough under normal operating conditions but is capable of yielding to absorb abrupt shock forces in the event that the drill encounters an undesirable obstruction in the ceiling, the coupling member including structure for causing it to return to a normal rigid condition after the shock forces have been absorbed.

Abstract: Two support assemblies for respectively supporting the tapered end and the cylindrical end of an elongated tubular elastomeric spring between two opposed spring seats are disclosed. The support assembly for the tapered end is made up of an elongated retaining member which is positionable generally transverse to and entirely inside the tapered end. This retaining member includes two inclined portions which bear down upon the inside of the tapered end when pulled in an outward direction by a bolt threadably secured to a conventional spring seat. The support assembly for the cylindrical end is made up of a second retaining member which is positionable generally transverse to and entirely inside the cylindrical end. The second retaining member includes a plurality of expandable flange portions which engage the inside of the cylindrical portion as the retaining member is pulled in an outward direction by a bolt threadably secured to the second spring seat.

Abstract: A cyclic shear energy absorber is described for absorbing energy imposed onto the absorber. The absorber consists of a hollow core filled with densely packed granular material. The granular material is confined within the core so that cyclic shear energy imposed upon the absorber causes incipient dilation of the granular material. This incipient dilation is at least in part suppressed by the confining means. Inter-particle frictional forces within the granular material dissipate the imposed cyclic shear energy. The absorber may be confined between two end plates capable of being coupled to an associated structure such as a bridge support column and a base. The core may also be confined within a pile.

Abstract: A vibration damping mount has a frame and at least one and preferably, two parallel guides extending therefrom. A support tube extends in the same direction as the guides, and preferably parallel to it, and carries a platform such as a camera platform, on its upper end. A bracket connects the support tube and guides such that the support tube and attached platform can slide in relation to the guides, while being prevented from moving laterally, in particular prevented from rotating, with respect thereto. Resilient means is connected between the support tube and frame so as to inhibit downward movement of the support tube and attached platform, thereby absorbing vertical vibration. A piston arrangement is also further preferably included for reducing larger vibrations. As well, a telescoping foot shaft arrangement and a pan handle arrangement are further provided.

Abstract: A seat secured to a permanent floor by a seat stabilizer which provides increased comfort by absorbing the static shock and/or vibration created between the permanent structure and the seat cushion. The seat stabilizer comprises a plurality of steel bolts firmly supported in the permanent floor structure, each bolt being enclosed by a coil spring contacting the permanent floor structure and the seat cushion frame positioned around each bolt, thereby causing the seat cushion to float vertically along the bolt in response to sudden shocks or vibrations. A bushing mounted on the portion of each seat frame contacting the stabilizing bolts prevents wear due to the vertical movement of the floating seat cushion frame. When the carrier is subjected to a shock force exceeding the biasing of the shock absorbers, the rigid connection is released and the equipment thus protected against damaging forces. Each shock absorber has a single compression spring which is compressed by an axial force on the shock absorber regardless of the direction of the force. At least three parallel, vertical shock absorbers carry the equipment. Horizontal shocks are absorbed due to the tilting movement of the equipment relative to the shock absorbers, which are thus subjected to vertical movements in opposite directions.
