A peak constant torque is less than a torsional “tear-out” capacity of a surface for maximizing energy absorption. While the fall force vector remains generally parallel to the base plate during a fall, the post is movable between an upstanding and a lowered orientation resulting in a variable moment arm and a resisting force that also varies for maintaining the torque substantially constant. Apparatus can include devices between the post and the base plate such as a torsion rod, a friction clutch or a cam arrangement. The suspension mechanism includes a linkage assembly movable through a predetermined path of travel for securing the seat to the frame and a damper assembly operable in combination with the linkage assembly for regulating the cushion travel of the seat. The present invention further includes an automatic seat stop mechanism connectable to the suspension mechanism for limiting the movement of the linkage assembly and the seat upon cessation or interruption of fluid flow to the seat suspension mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4766587
Abstract: An electrical apparatus such as a disc-record player, comprises a mounting device for a drive motor (7). The motor housing (6) is resiliently suspended on fixed motor supports (4) in the housing (1) of the apparatus so as to be in a radial direction with respect to the motor axis (7a). For this purpose suspension rings (11) of an elastic and vibration-dampening material are fitted around mounting elements (10) on the motor housing (6) and around the motor supports (4). The motor housing (6) carries stop portions (13) which in the event of axial movement of the motor housing (6) abut against fixed abutment surfaces (14) inside the housing (1) to limit said movement. Positioning means (15,20) are provided, which position said stop portions (13) and abutment surfaces (14) in such a way relative to each other after turning of the motor housing (6) and stretching of the suspension rings (11) that the stop portions (13) can move freely along the abutment surfaces (14) in an axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4714227
Abstract: An improved seat suspension for reducing the jolt transferred from the seat of a vehicle to an operator when the vehicle "bottoms out". The improved seat suspension consists of a base unit connected to the vehicle, a support unit housing an attenuation unit for attaching the seat to the seat suspension, and a unit for operatively connecting the base and support units. The attenuation unit consists of at least one spring member which is contacted by a bumper attached to the connection unit just prior to the collision of the support unit with the base unit. By the bumper contacting the spring member, the effect of the collision on an operator occupying the seat is reduced.

Abstract: A motor mount having first and second mounting surfaces with at least three mounting elements fixed therebetween is used to absorb motor vibration and shock impulses which are produced primarily parallel with the plane of the mounting surfaces. Two of the three mounting elements are dampers which flexibly connect the first mounting surface in a parallel relation with the second mounting surface. The third mounting element maintains a preferred range of distance separation between the mounting surfaces to that a damping flexion potential of the dampers is maintained.

Abstract: A mechanical shock and sway arrestor to be interposed between piping, related equipment and a stationary support, the parts of which are constructed and arranged to automatically change the effective length of the arrestor in response to thermally induced movements of the piping and to subtantially instantaneously convert the arrestor into a rigid strut in the event that the piping is subjected to shock-loading or vibration of substantial amplitude. The arrestor includes a housing for a ball screw and a ball nut threaded over the ball screw or equivalent acme screw. The ball screw is resiliently mounted and has a flywheel secured thereto centrally diposed between two clutch plates which engage the flywheel when the screw moves in response to movement of the piping thereby effectively arresting such motion and altering the effective length of the arrestor.

Abstract: At least two vibration proof elements are interposed between a tool body and the handle thereof. Each of the elements has a first supporting member connected to the handle, and two rubber blocks interposed between the first and second supporting members so that the element functions as a shock absorber. The first supporting member is partially received in the second supporting member in such a manner that the first supporting member is reciprocally movable with respect to the second supporting member when a force is applied to the element in a longitudinal direction of the tool body. Each of the first and second supporting members has a U-shaped portion so that the inner surface of the second supporting member abuts the outer surface of the first supporting member thus preventing the handle from excessively rotating about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and passing through the elements.

Abstract: An upper member to which a machine or other equipment piece to be protected is securable is supported directly or indirectly upon one or more resilient support columns, like coil springs. The resilient support columns are supported from a lower member which is adapted to be fixed to the load supporting surface for the equipment. Downwardly extending looping surfaces secured to the upper member define open or closed loops about transverse horizontal restraint bolts secured in pairs of transversely separated jaws rising from the lower member at each end of the member. The looping surfaces and the restraint bolts serve to limit relative motion in the transverse and longitudinal directions between the upper and lower members. Shock cushions about each bolt and between the looping surfaces and the jaws further limit relative motion.

Abstract: A support assembly for an exhaust system of a motor vehicle is disclosed. This assembly comprises a U-shaped channel bracket adapted to be mounted on the body of the vehicle. A strip bracket is adapted to be fixed at one end portion to the exhaust system and inserted at its other end portion parallel to and between the opposite side walls of the U-shaped channel bracket so as to form two spaces between the other end portion of the strip bracket and each of the side walls of the U-shaped channel bracket. Two vibration absorbing members are inserted into the spaces, respectively, and firmly joined to the side walls of the U-shaped channel bracket and the other end portion of the strip bracket to prevent the transmission of vibration of the exhaust system to the vehicle body. There is a spacing between the other end portion of the strip bracket and the bottom of the U-shaped channel bracket thereby preventing the transmission of vertical vibrations from the strip bracket to the U-shaped channel bracket.
