  • Patent number: 4487287
Abstract: A support system for elastically yieldingly supporting an automobile power plant having a transversely mounted engine comprises at least first, second and third elastically yieldable bearing assemblies which are used to connect elastically yieldably different portions of the power plant to different portions of an engine compartment defining structure. While the first and second bearing assemblies support the power plant from lateral directions, the third bearing assembly supports the power plant from below and, for this purpose, the third bearing assembly is interposed between the power plant and a cross member extending widthwise of the automobile.

  • Patent number: 4399974
Abstract: Between two elastic resilient blocks are disposed in parallel first and second vibration absorbers. The first absorber is an air-filled annular tube which absorbs a high-frequency small-altitude vibration which is transmitted from the engine to the vehicle body, while the second absorber is an elastic resilient block which absorbs a low-frequency large-altitude vibration which is transmitted from the vehicle body to the engine.

  • Patent number: 4317556
Abstract: A light weight chassis or skid for a turbine or engine-generator combination has a relatively narrow central beam section with laterally extending wing portions which are provided with mounting pads for the engine and the generator. The chassis is supported on a supporting surface by three resilient motor mounts, two of which are connected to wing portions and the third is positioned under the center line of the beam portion and under the engine. The three mounts enable securing the chassis to irregular surfaces without twisting the chassis and affecting alignment problems of the engine output shaft and the generator shaft, which misalignment can cause bearing wear and other maintenance problems.

  • Patent number: 4282566
Abstract: This invention provides a novel bracket for shock mounting a bulb within a housing for a lamp that is particularly intended for use with motorized vehicles, such as over-the-road trucks and the like. Basically, the novel bracket of the present invention comprises: a serpentine strip having polygonal apertures provided at its opposite ends and a bulb-receiving socket generally centrally located therein, the radial center of which socket is offset from the long central axis that extends between the apertures in the strip. Preferably, the strip is connected to the lamp housing by fastener means, portions of which are respectively passed through the polygonal apertures in the strip and prohibit pivotal movement of the apertures thereabout. It is also desirable that the fastener means portions comprise a pair of studs projecting from the lamp housing and being complementary in size and shape to the polygonal apertures in the strip through which they are respectively passed.

  • Patent number: 4274510
Abstract: Suspension means for mechanical elements which have a plate rigid with an element which is to be suspended. The rigid plate is connected to fixed mountings by flexible studs working in compression and by a deformable articulated system composed of connecting rods and a floating cross-member, ensuring rotationally rigid connection and providing for absorption of a torque originating from the suspended element, while allowing the element to perform translatory movements.

  • Patent number: 4240517
Abstract: In a front-wheel-drive vehicle having a powertrain with a transversely positioned engine and transmission and independent front-wheel suspensions each with a control arm, there is provided a cradle to which the drive-wheel suspension control arms are swingably mounted. A plurality of cushion mounts support the cradle at high impedance points on the vehicle body and provide a soft substantially linear spring rate at small vibratory amplitudes of the cradle in both a fore and aft direction and a vertical direction relative to the vehicle and a stiff substantially linear spring rate at all vibratory amplitudes of the cradle in a lateral direction relative to the vehicle. The powertrain is directly supported on the cradle by a plurality of cushion mounts which have soft substantially linear spring rates in the same directions as the cradle mounts.

  • Patent number: RE30498
Abstract: .Iadd.A lamp assembly particularly suited for vehicle mounting and adapted to be subjected to vibratory shock loads including a rigid reflector and a relatively flexible bulb suspension structure supported on the reflector having a receptacle or basket formation for receiving a bulb. The suspension structure includes a pair of elastically deformable flexible arms extending laterally oppositely from the receptacle formation along horizontal serpentine paths having portions forming U-curves about vertical axes to accommodate horizontal flexing and are pivotally mounted at their outer ends on the reflector..Iaddend.
