Patent number: 7832703Abstract: At the filling station of a dry cast pipe making machine for making pipe lined with a plastic liner, the liner is first placed over the core and then a plurality of spaced-apart, removable L-shaped plates are secured around the top edge of the core. One leg of each plate extends inside the core with the other leg extending downwardly over the top edge of the liner. The plates are removably held in place on the core by the use of a clamping device, such as a vise-grip, for example. Once the form is filled with concrete and ready for the pressure heading step, the downwardly extending legs of the plates serve as ‘shoehorns’ to guide the pressure header over the top of the liner and prevent damage to it. In addition, the plates will assist in centering the core within the jacket.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2009Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Hawkeye Concrete Products Co.Inventors: Jon A. Patent number: 5376315Abstract: A simplified, low-cost forming system (46) and method for the rapid construction of integrated, monolithic cast structures such as storm shelters (20). The preferred forming system (46) includes an inner core form member (48) presenting a base (54) and upstanding sidewall structure (56), together with an open-top outer form member (50) having a circumscribing sidewall assembly (118) and a superstructure (120) releasably secured thereto. In use, the outer form member (50) is telescoped over the inner core form member (48), with the distance between the form walls defining the thickness of the resulting shelter (20); preferably, a reinforcing grid (52) and door frame (32) are located between the form members (48, 50). After form assembly, concrete (178) is poured through the open top of the outer form member (50) to fill the complete form.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1994Date of Patent: December 27, 1994Assignee: Kansas State University Research FoundationInventor: Obed M. Patent number: 5062610Abstract: The invention includes block molds and manufacturing processes as well as a composite masonry block comprising a block body having an irregular trapezoidal shape and comprising a front surface and a back surface, an upper surface and a lower surface, and first and second sidewalls. Both the first and second sidewalls have a first and second part, the sidewall first part extends from the block front surface towards the block back surface at an angle of no greater than ninety degrees in relationship to the block front surface, the sidewall second part surfaces adjoins and lies between the sidewall first parts and the block back surface. The block also has a flange extending from the block back surface past the height of the block. Also disclosed are landscaping structures such as a retaining wall comprising a plurality of the composite masonry blocks of the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1990Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Assignee: Block Systems Inc.Inventors: Michael E.
