Controlling Light Source Intensity Patents (Class 250/205)
  • Patent number: 9858896
Abstract: A luminescence shock avoidance algorithm selectively limits the brightness level of a display device when the display device is activated in a dark environment to prevent the temporary vision impairment that can occur when a display device is activated in a dark environment. The algorithm receives the state of the display (e.g. on or in standby mode), and can optionally receive an ambient lighting value from an ambient light sensor and a user-selectable manual brightness adjustment setting to determine whether luminescence shock avoidance should even be triggered, and if it is triggered, how much should the brightness level of the display be limited.

Abstract: In order to provide a calculation method for reproducing solar cell characteristics with high accuracy by using data of a short-circuit current, an open-circuit voltage and the maximum power operation point of a solar cell in a temperature and a solar radiation intensity in a standard state, parameter values for determining characteristics in the standard state are calculated by using data of the short-circuit current, the open-circuit voltage and the maximum power operation point of the solar cell in the temperature and the solar radiation intensity in the standard state. Next, temperature coefficients of the open-circuit voltage and the reverse saturation current are calculated by using the calculated parameters, and a short-circuit current, an open-circuit voltage and the maximum power operation point at a given temperature are calculated.

  • Patent number: 9647770
Abstract: A photonic oscillator can produce a multifrequency optical signal having a spectrum that includes regularly spaced spectral lines. A photodetector can convert the multifrequency optical signal to a multifrequency electrical signal having a spectrum that includes the regularly spaced spectral lines. A bandpass filter can attenuate all but one spectral line of the spectrum of the multifrequency electrical signal to form a single-frequency electrical signal having leading/trailing edges that have the same precision as the photonic oscillator. A continuous-wave laser can lock to the multifrequency optical signal and produce a continuous-wave optical signal at a wavelength precisely locked to the photonic oscillator. A data encoder/decoder can modulate/demodulate a data stream onto/from the continuous-wave optical signal at a data rate of the single-frequency electrical signal. The modulated optical signal can be clocked with the leading/trailing edges of the single-frequency electrical signal.

  • Patent number: 9645521
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus including multiple light emitting elements, upon receiving an instruction from a user to execute correction (first correction) of a phase shift due to a shift in the relative positions of an optical scanning apparatus and the photosensitive member, a CPU executes correction (second correction) of a phase shift due to temperature change in the image forming apparatus. Thereafter, the CPU performs image formation control such that a phase adjustment image is formed on a recording medium, and determines a phase adjustment value based on an adjustment value input by the user. The CPU sets the phase adjustment value in the optical scanning apparatus to correct the phase shift. Thus, when the first correction is to be executed, the CPU executes the second correction before executing the first correction.

Abstract: A system and method for calibrating an optical module. The optical module including a microprocessor with non-volatile memory is provided at a calibration station for measuring calibrated value of a device parameter against raw values starting from minimum value in each of multiple zones of a primary parameter with one or more secondary parameters at least being set to a basis calibration point to determine coefficients for generating a N-spline function for the multiple zones and multiple multipliers for each zone corresponding to multiple calibration points. The coefficients and multiple multipliers are stored in the non-volatile memory and reused respectively for calculating a basis calibrated value based on any current raw value of the primary parameter a N-spline function in particular zone and for determining a final multiplier by interpolation of the multiple multipliers associated with the one or more secondary parameters, leading to a calibrated value for any condition.
