Patent number: 11979655Abstract: Method of detecting and overcoming degradation of image quality during a weather event and activation of windshield wipers. The method takes a high-contrast region of interest (ROI) of an image captured by a camera of a vehicle vision system, applies a Laplacian Operator that focuses on the pixel level in the ROI, and calculates a variance of the Laplacian. Images having an ROI below a predetermined variance threshold are classified or flagged as a low-quality image. Once a low-quality image is flagged, the camera settings can be readjusted in a feedback loop to compensate for the loss in quality of the captured image. This method may be stored as a software routine and implemented by a vision control module of the vision system.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2021Date of Patent: May 7, 2024Assignee: GM GLOBAL TEHCNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Kathleen Marie Schuetz, Andrew W. Finally, the device may include a detection instrument able to detect changes in light from the light source caused by movement of an insect within the seed. The disclosure also relates to a method of detecting an insect in a seed. First, one may pass light through the seed. Then one may detect light passed through the seed and, based on the light passed through the seed, determine whether or not an insect within the seed is moving.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2007Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Inventor: Roger C. Patent number: 8055054Abstract: A non-destructive evaluation system and method is provided for detecting flaws in an object. The system includes a lamp for impinging the object with optical pulses and a focal plane array camera configured to capture the images corresponding to evolution of heat due to an impact of the optical pulses in the object. The system also includes an image acquisition system for capturing data corresponding to the images from the focal plane array camera. Both transmission mode imaging and reflection mode imaging techniques are used in an exemplary embodiment. A time of flight analysis system is also provided for analyzing the data from both transmission mode imaging technique and reflection mode imaging technique. The data from transmission mode imaging is used to determine thickness values at different points in the data and for determining location of flaws using the thickness values. The data from reflection mode imaging is used for determining depth of these flaws.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2006Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Harry Israel Ringermacher, Donald Robert Howard, Bryon Edward Knight

Patent number: 7902530Abstract: S-band, C-band or X-band microwave powered linear accelerators capable of delivering therapeutic photon and electron beams are mounted to a gantry with extensions to hold multiple accelerators and are combined with a kV CT for 3-D conformal—IMRT and IGRT to treat a patient by SSD or SAD methods and in a full circle. The invention's tertiary collimator system consists of semi-automated reusable custom field shaping with tungsten powder or melted Cerrobend blocks. The beam's intensity modulation is by means of simultaneous but independently operating multiple accelerators. This system's multiple accelerators enable to avoid interrupted subfractionated radiation therapy to each treatment fields. Hence its effective dose rate at the tumor site is high. The improved radiobiology reduces the total radiation dose to treat a tumor, reducing the incidence of developing second primary tumors is also minimized.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2007Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Inventor: Velayudhan Sahadevan

Publication number: 20100320386Abstract: Apparatus and methods for detecting adhesives. The apparatus includes an adhesive sensor having a photodiode sensitive to infrared radiation at different wavelengths. The adhesive sensor may sense infrared radiation thermally emitted from a sufficiently hot adhesive. Alternatively, the adhesive sensor may sense infrared radiation from first and second near infrared diodes that emit at different wavelengths that are reflected with different intensities from an adhesive that is at a temperature insufficient to emit infrared radiation at an intensity to be readily detectable. A visible light source may be provided for targeting and focusing the adhesive sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2010Publication date: December 23, 2010Applicant: NORDSON CORPORATIONInventor: Martin Gaon

Patent number: 7838836Abstract: A method for detecting a phenomenon affecting visibility generated by an automotive vehicle, comprising the steps of emitting a first beam of light, which beam of light can be reflected by an obstacle; emitting a second reference beam of light using a second emitting source; receiving on a receiver the reflected beam of light resulting from the first beam of light being reflected by an obstacle, and the second beam of light sent directly to the input of the receiver; generating one or more detection signals as a function of a combination of the reflected beam of light in the event of an obstacle and a reference beam; and comparing the modulation of one or more detection signals generated using reference data. According to the invention, the first and second beams of light are infra-red beams, and they are directed towards the rear of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2008Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Valeo VisionInventors: Caroline Robert, Joël Leleve, David Hue

Patent number: 7741624Abstract: A medical accelerator system consisting of coplanar and non-coplanar beams, on line magnetic resonance anatomic and functional imaging and cone beam computed tomographic imaging for single session image guided all field simultaneous radiation therapy and radiosurgery is provided. This system enables single session simulation, field-shaping block making, treatment planning, dose calculations and treatment of tumors. The radiation exposure time to the tumor and the normal tissue is reduced to a few seconds to less than a minute. In filed intensity modulated radiation is rendered by combined divergent and pencil beam, multiple smaller fields within a larger field, selectively varying beam's energy, dose rate and beam weight. Since all the treatment fields are treated simultaneously the dose rate at the tumor site is the sum of each of the converging beam's dose rate at depth. This super-high biological dose rate impairs the lethal and sublethal damage repair.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2008Date of Patent: June 22, 2010Inventor: Velayudhan Sahadevan

Publication number: 20100102234Abstract: A paper-sheet recognition apparatus that acquires information from a paper sheet and recognizes the paper sheet based on the information. The apparatus includes one or more light emitting units that output first to n-th lights (n>2) of different wavelengths; an emission controller that performs emission control of the light emitting units; a light receiving unit that receive a component of a light, which has been emitted from the light emitting unit and then reflected from and/or transmitted through the paper sheet; and a paper-sheet recognition processor that recognizes the paper sheet by using an optical signal received by the light receiving unit. The emission controller performs the emission control of the light emitting units such that the number of light emissions per one emission cycle with respect each of to the first to n-th lights differs depending on information desired to be used in recognizing the paper sheet.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2007Publication date: April 29, 2010Inventors: Hiroki Hamasaki, Tomohiko Kasuya, Akira Bougaki, Norio Morikawa
